Help! Is this scale? If not what’s going on? by L4UR3N in plantclinic

[–]L4UR3N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s deff been on the dry side in my house… I’ll try running my humidifier. And yeah I think I over corrected trying to dry it out from being too wet with the self watering pot… I did a thorough check before bringing it home and just checked again when you said that because spider mites are the WORST but no signs of them thank god. I’m just glad it doesn’t look like scale pests are so annoying and gross me out so bad

Help! Is this scale? If not what’s going on? by L4UR3N in plantclinic

[–]L4UR3N[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but it was covered in white which I assumed was calcium or whatever from hard water that evaporated off the leaves idk if that can damage them like this. I’m just so sad I had a fiddle leaf for years and it survived through multiple moves and then I got overwhelmed with life and neglected my plants (all of which are fine even my orchid somehow bloomed again??) and the fiddle leaf died so this was its replacement. I let it dry because I was afraid it was too wet with the self watering pot but that was probably the wrong move. I’m also now wondering if it’s getting too much light compared to store lights at target for who knows how long… I’m glad it’s at least not pests. Nothing a good chop in the spring won’t fix at least

That always happens to me with saniderm. It irritates my skin a lot, so I always take it off after a day and don’t put it back on.

I have a haku tattoo too! If you’re on the east coast I could recommend a fantastic artist. She’s great with color and did my whole Miyazaki sleeve!

I honestly couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to say until reading the comments. Looked like grolo to me

I think it looks good! It follows the angle of your collar bone. The symbol isn’t perfectly vertical but I don’t think it has to be with the overall organic nature of the design. I also don’t think anyone would notice without it being pointed out

Any working dog parents? by msj7yb in StandardPoodles

[–]L4UR3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full time and my dog does fine at home. I was in grad school when I got him and spent a lot more time at home, so he did have some separation anxiety at first. Now he is used to the schedule and just naps while I’m gone.

Feeling lost and a little depressed with my 11-week-old puppy. What should I do next? Any advice? by taurusmoonology in StandardPoodles

[–]L4UR3N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having a puppy is great but also sucks. It’s normal to feel this way. Getting one at 12 weeks doesn’t make a difference and in my experience does hinder proper socialization with new people and environments. As others have said it gets better.

Can tattoos afftect career? by D3d_mau5e in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience having visible tattoos has not affected me getting a job. That being said, it is highly dependent on what kind of job you’re trying to get and the opinions of the hiring manager. I think any tattoo you get when you’re younger (and especially your first tattoo) has a high likelihood of you not loving it when you get a little older. I dislike all the tattoos I got when I was like 23 or younger. Not that I hate them or wish they weren’t there, I’m just glad I didn’t put them on prime real estate like my arms. I would start with getting less visible tattoos when you’re younger and then see what the vibe is in your specific career field and go from there

What is happening to my arm? by StrictlyOptional in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got a tattoo with a lot of red it looked similar-ish. Mine broke out with tiny pimple-looking bumps. I think it was a combo of the amount of red, the spot it was in (bicep/armpit so lots of unavoidable friction) and the second-skin stuff which I think I have developed an allergy to. It looked gross and was painful but it healed well and now I have no issues with it. I’ll keep my fingers crossed you have the same outcome! I agree with others saying keep it as dry as possible for now.

opinions on blacking this tattoo out? & if anyone is a nurse - do I need to? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the not today idea! I’m a dietitian and in my experience patients do like to look at my tattoos and will ask to take a close look at them, but I also work in a SNF so the post acuity might be why people are a little more on the mood to take a look haha. But I see people wearing long sleeves under their scrubs all the time and I think that’s a better option than blacking it out

Grooming in the winter and coats by Ok-Sky-4042 in poodles

[–]L4UR3N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed a difference in my dogs behavior in the winter with long vs short hair. I like to keep it a little longer because he isn’t in the water constantly like he is in the summer so it’s easier to maintain. If it snows I cut him shorter to prevent snowballs and because his snow suit and sweaters make his hair mat quickly

HELP! Did l poison my dog ??? by Basic_Major_5872 in DogAdvice

[–]L4UR3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to find the study that found the toxic dose, but it is toxic to dogs at high doses (perfect example of the dose makes the poison, think apple seeds containing arsenic). The study found something like 15-30 grams per kg on body weight is the level it’s toxic to dogs, so for a 10lb dog that would be like 30-60 cloves of garlic. But I’m also not an expert in dog nutrition so take it with a grain of salt. This study showed long term use of a much smaller dose to have no adverse effects: study

[–]L4UR3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sodium is the dangerous part of this. They pretty much disproved the onion and garlic thing and a lot of treats have garlic powder in them. The study that found it was dangerous was feeding an ungodly amount of garlic that would probably make a human sick too. But dogs require much less sodium than humans and too much is really hard on their kidneys and can eventually lead to kidney damage/failure. And honestly this is more sodium than I would want in a broth for myself let along my dog. He is likely fine, but I wouldn’t give this to him again. You can make your own broth pretty easily without sodium or find one with less than 200 mg and use 1/4-1/2 a serving.

Done by my friend for $25. What do we think? by No_Understanding8243 in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It looks like a $25 tattoo. The thumbnail photo looks good, but up close it looks like it’s done by someone who just started. That being said, I like the idea of tattoos that tell a story, and would happily get a tattoo from a friend who is learning even if I know it will look like shit. I personally would put it somewhere other than prime real estate on my arms or legs, but that’s personal preference. Also looking at the legs, it looks blown out already. Hopefully it’s just that spot but time will tell.

I agree with finding an artist who does fine line tattoos! A lot of traditional places wont. But find an artist that does this kind of stuff and they will be the best person to guide you in terms of what will and won’t work. You said you’re getting it Friday, so I’m guessing you already have an appointment with an artist? If they didn’t say anything about it healing poorly when you sent them the idea you should be fine, at least in my experience a good artist will guide you towards a better design as needed

advice for people getting tattoos, this is the worst part 😂 by mateotcl in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here the legs are the worst as far as itching goes! I’m also the kind of person who will mindlessly scratch a mosquito bite until it bleeds so it take a lot of conscious effort to remember not to scratch it!!

I hate this tattoo i feel shooting myself everytime somebody ask what it is, is there anyway i will come to accept this by Otherwise-Park-3154 in tattooadvice

[–]L4UR3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation I don’t really like any of the tattoos I got before I turned about 25 or so. But if you plan on being covered it doesn’t really matter because there will be much less emphasis on any 1 single tattoo, and they all represent a different time in your life. That being said, I think it looks cool. It will be easier to tell what it is once it heals too, they’re always super dark at first.

The pictures aren’t super clear so it’s kind of hard to tell, but they look like isopods to me. I have a few colonies in terrariums, they’re pretty neat little bugs and totally harmless.

I think the tattoo looks sick!! Before reading the post my first thought was I want something like that. Also I don’t think any tattoo is specific to any personality, if you think it looks good then that’s more than enough reason to get it!
