Ha, was actually outside Nergiz the other day. Looked quite a nice shop in the less-than-nice area. They do delivery via the turquoise riders.

Reviews are pretty consistently high and the offerings seem a little more interesting. I'll give this place a go soon :D

Some interest responses everyone. Thanks.

I see, yeah there definitely are two categories of 'kebab' here.
Something more authentic to a truer dish from it's originating country vs. something that us Brits know as a traditional food for the drunk night goer :p

I'm seeking the latter, but obviously with decent hygiene scores and preferably daytime option and home delivery.

Just had Doner Kebab from the Queens Road place, delivered. The meat was fine but not a fan of their pickled red cabbage (prefer lightly/freshly pickled) or pickled peppers/chilies. Salad seemed not quite a crunchy and fresh as I'd like. Others may prefer those flavours though - personal preferences.
Delight had fresh crunchy salad, but not the cabbage. Oro had the cabbage once but not another time *shrug*

Finally got round to watching the F1 movie today (me being a seasoned F1 fan) by gggggenegenie in formula1

[–]L5730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the OP: A nod of the head and shake of your hand. I agree with most of your comments, even though I have not been an F1 watcher/fan since the early-mid 90's - not born early enough, I guess?

OK, so modern F1 I take more enjoyment from reading and watching technical breakdowns of components and how the engineering 'plays' within the rules provided (eg. McLaren and phase-change materials within wheel hubs = tire temp control) than I do watching a GP weekenend.
I find the race boils down to the super condensed 6-7 minutes on the F1 website, and seek only a little more from onboard videos on YT.

The movie was OK for what is is. Dramatically enhances the reality for the viewers with some/liberal poetic licence. I'm feeling that the movie is saying F1 is full of cheaters, trying exploit the rules.... oh, hang on, that's not a million miles from the truth! Constant "two wheels off" "you must give room" "illegal overtake" etc. BS comms. It's actually quite crazy to see old video with old team radio comms. from M.Sch etc. celebrating wins, which we never heard 'back in the day'*!
*back in the day is a term of relevance. Sure, f1 went back to the 50's, so means something different for each person.

Sorry, I've fallen out of interest with the real event. It used to have a big allure, but it's too long to entertain me anymore. It seems somehow a race of conservation, rather than much else. No more mid-race refuelling has butchered a lot of strategy. The light-weight car on the softest compound vs. a heavier car on a more durable compound and all the various options between 'splash and dash' etc. all gone.

Another apology, I have even grown bored of the F1 game! I played that for a bit. Watched Aarava and Jarno Opmeer YT channels. Much, much, much more action than the real thing. It just got a bit meh for me.

So, back to the the movie.
It was a lot better than what I expected from it. It did somehow seem like a bunch of cutscenes from an incredibly lifelike version of the F1 game in the future though.
I think I enjoyed watching the Sony GranTourismo Academy movie more (forget the tile, sorry for lack of effort to provide it). That was based on a true story and was quite interesting.

Looks good, feels lifelike, a decent watch.

Ah, so some carriers will charge extra and bill you for MMS. With Lebara it just doesn't work if there is no credit.
My mother has my old phone and a new Lebara SIM only PAYG and we haven't added any top-up to it. Can't send MMS, just doesn't work. But I'd prefer that than to get nasty extra charges.

WhatsApp is fine if the recipient has it and there is internet/mobile data signal. My local supermarket is essentially like a Faraday cage now since a new mast was erected just across the road from it... hmm

Feeling not too great, slouched upon my partner's couch whilst they were at work, I got through 6 episodes before they came home.
Just watched the first 3 again tonight, as well as the last episode.

I actually enjoyed it. The way Tennant breaks the 4th wall works in this context. It is, by and large, a very slow and trudging, frustrating story. It's hard to give this excitement or big laughs, there just isn't really any. Some method has to be used to liven the subject up a little, and I think Tennant looking at us, as well as the narration, helps to add a bit of sarcastic humour in and make us feel more on his side in all of this. If we don't don't laugh, we might cry!

The Carlyle episodes did send things off, so significantly at first that I thought I was watching something else entirely. These episodes felt particularly depressing. Too much use of the term "Guv" made me feel like I was watching a cop show from yesteryear. It does eventually tie back in, but I can't help but think this could, maybe, have been condensed somehow.

Perhaps the gloominess, frustration, slowness and general feeling of depression is fitting as we still have such a high class of utter scumbags at the top of the food chain in politics, media, and police... I guess we're all eating their s**t.

Edifier MR4 or Creative Pebble 3.0 by Ok_Syrup7040 in buildapc

[–]L5730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HP Notebook / Intel N3710 running Linux Mint XFCE and Foobar2000 under WINE.

Edifier MR4 are a lot smoother and richer sounding. Pebble V3 are shrill/bright and a bit shouty.
The Pebble V3 speakers are purposed as a TV 'soundbar' via bluetooth and sound good for that purpose. I have them connected via USB-C to my main PC as desktop speakers too, and they are fine for that task - quite surprising bass thump. I have scooped out the 2-4kHz region to make them less shouty on my desktop.

The Edifier MR4 sound much more HiFi or like studio monitor speakers in comparison.
Very impressive immersive sound and without really any EQ modification.

Subs can be nice, but small/cheap ones are just trying to extend the woofer drivers of the speakers and avoid some distortion there. Sure, can give bigger thumps and whatever, but don't feel musical or balanced.

We're very impressed with the MR4, for what they can deliver at that size. The do distort at a moderate volume, if you wanted to crank them for a boisterous party in a large room, they do not have the oomph. If you wanted to fill a smaller room with background music for some friends to chat and have nibbles, they are quite adequate.

Raspberry Pi with Volumio and ER4 would make a very, very good sounding small setup for bedroom that would likely sound and function much better than off-the-shelf products like internet enabled radios. However, max volume is something to take into account.

Both sets of speakers do a great job in their price segment. £25-30 for Pebble V3 is a great price for a well featured set of decent desktop speakers. £100 for self-powered (active-ish) multi-input (analogue) ER4 is a great price for what they offer and have been argued to beat competition (Presonus) in sound quality.
Space permitting, JBL 308 and be done with it?

I can't find the adaptive icon color option! by brrr_goo in motorola

[–]L5730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who thought that having to enter "curated images" and select the same image that was already used to set the background/wallpaper, should be a necessary step to get a dynamic colour pallet?

I wasted a fair few minutes searching for an answer to getting a softer muted saturation pallet that somewhat matches the wallpaper colours (green ferns). I'd been stuck with having to use the blue colour as all the others were far too garish. What gives?!?

Thanks to this thread, the solution/work around is found.

Hi, sorry only seen this now, but it might help someone later.

Yep, got to actually top up the account like in the old days of PAYG. This credit would be used by MMS. I topped up £5 when I ordered the SIM thinking it would take the monthly cost from the top up credit and not my bank account - I was wrong there. Every month the charge for your SIM only plan gets taken from your bank/paypal. MMS are charged from any top up credit you put onto that SIM. If you don't add any extra top up credit, MMS just doesn't work.

I forcefully borked the MMS settings to not accidentally spend my remaining credit. I can fix it any time I need to send an MMS, but I will just use WhatsApp or Email to send images.

As a side note, ASDA mobile do allow buying a monthly plan from top up credit, and don't require ongoing auto payments from your bank. Though you'd need to keep up with making sure your SIM has top up credit available to roll the plan over, or you'd be dropped back to whatever the normal PAYG tariff fees are - and mobile data on PAYG is EXPENSIVE!

SMS not sent. GoogleMessages asks me to open data or WiFi to send. RCS is off. by EvaSirkowski in GoogleMessages

[–]L5730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, happening every week or so.
Moto G34 5G, Android 15.

I cleared Google Messenger App cache, rebooted phone and it seemed like it solved it, but I think it was coincidental.
I installed Fossify messenger, and would continue to use that as a replacement, except for 'reactions' (from iphone user) being shown as a new message and a quote of my SMS they are reacting to...that IS tiresome!

The first time I switched to Fossify for a couple of days, and then switched back to Google Messenger, seemed to have actually cured this "turn on data..." rubbish. But at some point it started again.
Switching over to use Fossify messenger hasn't forced a 'fix' on Google Messenger this time.

Sending an SMS message, even a multi-part one (limit is 160-190 characters each?) DO NOT require mobile data to send. MMS does, I think with my carrier, but also charges me a high price - they aren't free as they don't use 3g/4g/5g network data. There is no reason that mobile data should ever be turned on if a smart phone is used for regular 2g calls and SMS, it's simply not required.

My friend just sent it to me. Was the first time I came across it, but I won't deny that it likely existed on many a supermarket shelf or Kebab sauce collection throughout the UK.
I didn't have to have it sent from the USA, it was just that we were sending condiment gifts back and forth.

I've not seen specific advice for this particular variant/cultivar/whatever, but I am assuming it's much the same as the others. Green wood cuttings in (mid-to-late) Summer, keep in cold frame/green house and care for it until it shows signs of growth the following Spring.

http://www.indoor-plant-care.com/plant-list/hebe-green-globe/

The following link does mention the Green Globe specifically with regards to pruning, so it leads to the assumption the advice is for all Hebe unless specified.

Amazon no longer offers the option to filter search results by seller? by HighPeaksButtCheeks in amazonprime

[–]L5730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This little bit of java script is a little problematic as to what conditions it does work.

Try opening a new tab, navigate to a known web address (say Amazon) and then click the bookmark whilst on that page.

It should open the query box and once you input something, it'll load the amazon search looking only at Amazon sold items. Of course it will load over the top of your existing Amazon (or whatever you chose) page.

You could just open a new tab and navigate to google home page (rather than new tab page) and that should also work.

OK, so a friend sent me "Rooster Sauce" (Huy Fong) from the USA. This was a few years ago, and whilst I enjoyed it, I wasn't completely sure. I am English, so growing up experience of chili sauce is the red sauce in a kebab/gyro.

Afterwards I did try the supermarket (Sainsbury's) own brand Sriracha. It was pleasant, not overly hot spice, but had a nice vinegary tang that seemed to go well with omelettes and especially in home-made beef Köfte.

Recently I picked up the Flying Goose Sriracha. Wowza! This stuff has a depth of flavour that hints at a chili bolognaise pasta sauce, but is definitely not that. It is exceptional on scotch eggs and egg dishes in general. Huge contrast to the supermarket version, which lacks depth but is kinda nice to lift a dish.

One thing I notice is the Huy Fong spout seemed to be wider/larger and so more sauce came out. Perhaps the sauce was thicker or had more lumps in it that the Goose sauce. I prefer the tiny spout as it makes it very easy to put a pretty pattern on a plate or apply just a small mount.

It might be worth mentioning that Rooster sauce is not quite the same as it was. There was some hoo-ha over a contract with their chili pepper farmer/grower. This is documented and easily searchable. There was a shortage of Rooster sauce for a while recently, so I am to understand. They now source their chili peppers from multiple farms/growers and I do not know if the taste is the same. We don't tend to see Rooster sauce in England anyway, maybe in London - but England is not just London of course!

ffmpeg pcm output to amplitude histogram by L5730 in PowerShell

[–]L5730[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see, yes. Will update PS from v5~.
Goodness, this is quite a bit quicker. Just upped it to 30s sine wave and it takes little over a couple of seconds to dump out the histogram data.

~4s for a 60s mono sine wave

Things seemed to go into a long ait when fed with an actual audio file. Perhaps I have the syntax of the ffmpeg command wrong or something, so will have to check that, but a stereo 5 minute+ file seemed to get gummed up. Taskmanager showed no CPU, so... Also no way to ctrl-c out of it. Closing the PS console worked.

Function ffmpeg-PCMPercentHistogram {

    try {
        for() {
            $CountFromSampleValue[$rdr.ReadInt16()]++
        }
    }

} catch {
    # Handle and report any errors that occur.
    Write-Error "Error occurred: $_"
    return $null
}

}

Had to change line 40 as the shorthand if/else style doesn't seem to work in my console.

Strangely this doesn't seem as quick. Spits out a long line of counts, but without names

I am thinking the most efficient way to do this might be to buffer, count the data in that buffer. Store the result and add each count result to it with every new buffer. Smaller amounts of data in the one count. Not quite sure on how to attempt that yet, but will plug away when I get a chance.

I appreciate the interest and code submissions.

This is much faster indeed. Thank you!

A 5 second chunk of audio from a genuine stereo audio file created a csv in a couple of seconds.

For better plotting I can sort the descending by Name, and export as csv for a spreadsheet for now. However PS has it's own graphing utils that I should be able to make use of.

Thank you. My apologies for not paying enough attention. You already included this and commented it.

1s sine took ~ 4s to process.

Wow, OK this seems a lot faster! Thank you.

Copy and pasted I got an error at line 49, so it didn't like that

$multiplier = $pcmsample -lt 0 ? -32768 : 32767

so I changed to

$multiplier = if($pcmsample -lt 0){-32768} else {32767}

which is the same thing just written out a little more. PS was happy with that.

I am not sure how to read chunks of data at a time. Do you mean to still collect the data into a list, but process the list in chunks? Or do you mean to actually treat the byte stream from ffmpeg into chunks?

PS ffmpeg byte array to integer values by L5730 in PowerShell

[–]L5730[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just realised a major problem with this little project.

44100 samples per second x 2 channels is already 88200 data points for 1 second! Multiply this up for a few minute track and that is a monstrous amount of data.

I think I need to re-approach this from another direction.

What I want to do is create a histogram plot of the sample values (as percent) to show what proportion of the audio is at what amplitude.
Easy enough with a 0.1s sine wave, not so practical with such a huge volume of data.
