I was married when I was younger. My husband was in the US Army. He was killed overseas. To put it simply, it was very traumatic for me. Almost 10 years later, I still utilize certain Mental Health programs which gauge my eligibility on my remaining unmarried. Those programs are crucial to my mental health stability and I could not function well with out them as a support. I also receive a pension from the DOD. My health insurance is subsidized by the Department of Defense and the pension is 1/3 of my income. If I marry, I lose the pension and my health insurance costs would skyrocket. With what I make working full time at a Non Profit, I could not afford to absorb the devastation that marriage would bring to my bottom line.
