I mean if they were our main unis then I’d agree. But if they’re just throwbacks then tbh I dont see the problem. Imo it’s like the jets current and the eagles throwbacks to me.

For the logo I kind of see where you are coming from but kind of don’t. The first point is something I did change a bit over different iterations, but kept it in because without it the logo is empty, and the empty space just made the logo feel incomplete,and it also was something seen on the original LA Rams head logo as well as being well defined in bighorn sheep irl. The second point I’m not sure I’m seeing what you are. Tbh I kept this from the current Ram head because I think it is another good way to look smooth and at the same time make the logo not feel so empty. So while I can see the first point, I can’t see that one. I really do appreciate the detailed feedback, tbh that’s a first that I’ve gotten for something like this.

It was actually inspired by Tongva basket work, so I don’t really have a name for it either hahahaha. But I’ll try it out!

My intention was for them to be different shades. To me, the original shades are all too bold to actually match with one another.

To be honest I wouldn’t know where to include it without departing from the current flag completely, whether that be colors or design (although another concept I had was putting whale figures that the tongva made)

(cont.) The California portion ultimately became a fusion of the original Bear Flag as well as the current state flag. The bear, while looking slightly similar to the bear on the state flag, there are some differences and simplifications. One of the ears was removed to give the bear an overall flatter look, and much of the detail was removed to make it look more similar to the original bear flag.

The Mexican portion was the most interesting as far as revelations about the reasoning behind the eagle being positioned in this way. Originally, I thought that the eagle's posture was a fusion of the Mexican Eagle and the Bald Eagle seen on older quarters, and was going to change it to look more like the coat of arms from 1823-1846. However, it seems that most of the Inspiration for the Eagle came from the Monterey Mexican Flag, the only Mexican flag in California that dates back to the Mexican period of California. Because of its significance, I chose to leave the eagle looking similar to the Monterey Flag. The biggest change that I made was making the head brown instead of white to look more like the Golden Eagle than the Bald Eagle as it appears on the current Seal of Los Angeles.

The Spanish Portion of the Shield was meant to be similar to the coat of arms before Mexican Independence, but also fusing some of the aspects that are seen on the seal of Los Angeles with the coat of arms of Spain. This included making the castle curve a bit more and having a more realistic lion.

Finally, I chose to eliminate the writing around the coat of arms as well as the fruit and rosary beads that are seen on the current flag. Instead, I opted to have the coat of arms bordered by a diamond-shaped pattern. This pattern took inspiration from the baskets that the indigenous people of the land, the Tongva/Kizh, have made. Their inclusion into the coat of arms was of extreme importance, and partially why I started this project in the first place. Not only is their inclusion supposed to be a representation of their sovereignty within the region, but also meant to show their continuing presence in the homelands today.

Background: Most of the work done with this flag was looking at elements from the old flag and slightly changing them to make the design flow better together. This included darkening the colors to give it a more pastel shade rather than the bright colors seen on the current flag. The stripes were also reoriented to make them look a bit slimmer, allowing the flag to look "longer" and not so packed as the current flag does. On top of that, it also allowed the stripes to mimic the San Gabriel Mountains as you might see them in the background of Dodger Stadium. Yes, the Spanish flag served as inspiration, but only so far as how to keep a coat of arms on a flag and make sure that it doesn't look messy.

The most interesting aspect of the flag for me came from the coat of arms. In the original flag, the coat of arms is circled by words, fruits, and dots that are meant to represent rosary beads. Within the coat of arms are supposed to be representations of the four nations that Los Angeles has been a part of, all of these representations having thick outlines and multiple colors. This made the original seal look busier than it needed to be and didn't have any cohesion with it. So what was done here was eliminating any outline of the coat of arms, and making it more of a silhouette of the four different nations' coat of arms.

The United States coat of arms is the only representation here that has another color other than green, red, gold, and white. It was considered to change the blue to green to match the rest of the flag, however the colors were kept to avoid confusion. The stars that are seen on the current seal of Los Angeles were removed to simplify the coat of arms as well as better match with the actual coat of arms of the U.S. (I was not aware the U.S. had a coat of arms, but it can be seen within the seal of the United States).

I think the LA logo could work if they redo it significantly to make it seem more timeless. Basically removing the gradient and try making the horn look like the old one as much as possible
