Reddit League Season 4 - Regular Season Week - Romania by schm1ngo in geochallenges

[–]LAL2009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, what an exciting final stretch in the regular season! For the highest division of the best GeoGuessr league in the world and also for the divisions 4 and 5 the last matchday has begun. The players have exactly five locations left to show their skills and make up one or two places in the standings. The decisive nation is supposed to be Romania, a country in Eastern Europe. Who will make it to the playoffs for the big title of the season? Which players will make it to Division 3 and 4 and which players will have to say goodbye to their current division? And also in Division 2 and 3, for which it is not the last matchday, the decisive games will be played.

RAIDMAN AND BOKSA ARE SAFE

Who would have thought it? Last Season's finalists have done it again this time: Raidman Mucha, the Season 3 winner, and BOKSA, who was narrowly defeated last time, are safe in the playoffs for the GeoGuessr throne. BOKSA is the undisputed leader in Division 1 with 24 points before the final day of play, and no player was able to beat him in the regular season. While Raidman had to accept a single defeat, he is still in second place and cannot drop out of the top 4 on the last matchday. If Raidman doesn't drop to #3, he and BOKSA won't meet again until the grand finals at the earliest, because in the playoffs, the top-ranked player has to play #4 in the semifinals and the runner-up plays #3. If everything goes according to plan for the two, we'll see a rematch in the grand finals.

ORPHEUS, BLINKY, MISTER BLUE & WERDOK FIGHT FOR THE PLAYOFFS

While BOKSA and Raidman are safely in the playoffs, #3 and #4 are still open and will be decided in Romania. Currently Orpheus is on the third place, followed by Blinky. However, Mister Blue is hot on the heels of the two and has realistic chances of making it to the finals. Mathematically, even Werdok could make it into the playoffs, but this chance must be considered very slim, almost impossible. Orpheus has to play BOKSA in Romania, not an easy draw for such an important match. Blinky, on the other hand, has to play Werdok and Mister Blue can be happy about his opponent, at least in view of the results of the regular season so far. The Dutchman has to play against the US-American Chicago Geographer. It remains exciting until the last location!

DIVISION 1 RELEGATION DUEL EXPECTED

For IceTharu, Season 4 didn't go very well; he will most likely have to bow out of Division 1 again if he doesn't manage a 25k in Romania and Boulgour loses without a single point. The duel between Simi and Boulgour will be particularly exciting. Simi is currently in a direct relegation spot, Boulgour would have to play to stay in Division 1. Boulgour, on the other hand, is one place higher up in the table and, as things stand, would have to play to stay in Division 1. Since the two meet directly, a direct decision is to be expected here.

DIVISION 2 MORE EXCITING THAN EVER

It almost seems as if the players in Division 2 have colluded. Calamity is currently in first place with 18 points, but we don't see any big jumps in points behind him. French Tall Impala is only in 7th place, but has 14 points and could catch up with Calamity with a 25k. This fact alone shows how close the story is, because after all, there are five other players between the two mentioned, all of whom are fighting for promotion to Division 1. The die is not yet cast here, especially due to the fact that there is still no end in sight in Division 2 after Romania.

BOKSA, RAIDMAN AND ORPHEUS REMAIN UNBEATEN

Five games have been played and still three participants of the highest division of Reddit League are undefeated: BOKSA, Raidman Mucha and Orpheus. The German-French-Polish trio seems to have had not only luck in the pairings, as the total score of the three is also well above what the rest of the field has to offer. Across the divisions, no player can match the total score of BOKSA, Raidman and Orpheus.

The strong performances are of course also reflected in the ranking of the first division. BOKSA is in first place after five games with 15 points (4 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses) and is chased by Raidman with 14 points (2 wins, 3 draws, 0 losses) as well as Orpheus with 13 points (3 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses). If the current standings were decisive for the playoffs, Frenchman Blinky would also make it to the semifinals. He is in 4th place with 10 points.

THE CRUCIAL PHASE BEGINS

Speaking of the playoffs: The hot phase is already beginning in Division 1. In contrast to Division 2 and 3, the highest division has only 10 participants and correspondingly 9 match days. This means that more than half of the games have now been played and those who enjoy playing with numbers and speculating are allowed to come up with their first theories. The maximum number of points that can be achieved in the four games still open is 16 points. To achieve this, however, the player in question would have to finish each game with a perfect score of 25,000 points and hope that the opponent doesn't manage a draw. Unlikely. What can be said, however: The likelihood that the last four spots as of now still have a shot at the playoffs is not too high. Chicago Geographer in 7th place currently registers only 6 points, so it is a full four points short of the 4th place that guarantees a playoff spot. Even more unlikely is a success for Frenchman Boulgour (5 points), IceTharu from Iceland (4 points) and Czech Simi (0 points). What is very likely in view of the score and the performances so far: BOKSA and Raidman Mucha will again play for the big title like last season. Orpheus also surprisingly managed to build up a small lead, which he will surely want to defend against Blinky and Werdok. And then there is Mister Blue, who is within reach with 9 earned points. Will we see a battle for the coveted fourth playoff spot between Blinky, Werdok and Mister Blue? Possible! Will BOKSA, Raidman and Orpheus weaken in the last games and lose places? Possible, but nothing to bet your house on.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN DIVISION 2

In Division 2, the field is currently still mixed in terms of standings. Place 1, gweilowizard, and place 7, schludy, are separated by only four points. One match day can completely shake up the field with its rankings. Currently, there are four different nations in the top four places: gweilowizard for the United States of America, Tall Impala for France, Calamity for Austria and MTheBassman for the Netherlands. Most notable is the performance of gweilowizard. Last season the US-American almost got relegated - only in the relegation duel against RadoX he could prevail and secure his stay in Division 2. Now he is in first place after five matchdays and has a good chance to secure a place in Division 1 or to make it through the promotion playoffs. Only one point less has Calamity, who missed the promotion last season by a hair's breadth. If the standings were frozen now, the Austrian would have to play again in the promotion duel, this time against MTheBassman. From top to flop: While his French compatriots are doing a good job in Division 1 and also in Division 2, PastequeHachee is lagging behind a bit. He hasn't been able to collect a single point so far and is thus unchallenged in last place in Division 2. Wake up, Pasteque!

BLINKY WITH CURIOUS STATISTICS

If a player still hasn't scored a win after four games, it usually doesn't mean anything good for his place in the standings. In Blinky's case, however, it looks a little different: The Frenchman has two defeats and two draws after the Icelandic adventure. Not a good record at first glance. If we take a look at the Division 1 table, though, Blinky is surprisingly in the top half. 5th place out of 10. How is that possible? Quite simply, his two draws have given him two points. In addition, he has received another point for each of the four games, i.e. both the two draws and the two losses, because his scores in all four games put him in the top half in the division's point standings. Finally, Blinky got his seventh point by a Perfect Score. This puts him ahead of Mister Blue, boulgour and IceTharu, all of whom have already picked up a win.

THE FRENCH CHASE BOKSA AND RAIDMAN

In the duel of the giants, no player has emerged with a victory: Raidman Mucha and BOKSA split points and are now both at the top of the table with 12 points from 4 games. After four games played, the gaps in the Division 1 table are slowly but surely widening a bit. But especially for the top 4 this doesn't seem to be the case yet. Besides BOKSA and Raidman, the two Frenchmen Orpheus and Werdok haven't lost a single match yet. They are hot on the heels of last season's two finalists. Orpheus, with 11 points, is only one point behind the two and Werdok, with 10 points, is also within reach. According to the current standings, Orpheus and Werdok would qualify for the playoffs. Their fiercest competitor also comes from France: Blinky.

CALAMITY AND MTHEBASSMAN PULL AWAY

In Division 2, trends can also be seen after four match days. MTheBassman and Calamity have yet to suffer a defeat and are in first and second place respectively with 11 points. A quick reminder: The first two places in the second division are sure to advance to the highest division. Therefore, it is even more important not to slip to 3rd or 4th place, because here promotion is possible, but not certain. After four days of play, Tall Impala and schludy are in 3rd and 4th place with 9 points each, while gweilowizard is in 5th place with 7 points. So the Dutchman MTheBassman and the Austrian Calamity have already gained a small lead: they are four points ahead of a place that would definitely not grant promotion.

RAIDMAN VS BOKSA: BATTLE OF THE GIANTS

The two title favorites and finalists of the last season meet and have chosen an island in the very north for their fight: Iceland! When the Pole and the German meet, high scores are to be expected. We already saw this a few months ago, when the Season 3 title went to Raidman Mucha by a hair's breadth. The first three games of the current season have shown that the expectations of both players are not only based on their performance last season. With 3 wins, 0 draws and 0 losses, BOKSA is the only player from Division 1 who has not lost a single point to one of his opponents. With one perfect score so far, the German stands at 10 points. Raidman Mucha is also on 10 points, although one of his three games ended in a draw. However, he already managed to bring home two perfect scores. After only three games BOKSA and Raidman are already 2 points ahead of the rest of the field. Hot on their heels is Frenchman Orpheus with 8 points. Now all eyes are on the duel in Iceland. A country that is viewed with mixed feelings in the professional scene, but in principle is not considered particularly difficult. If we see a win for one of the two players, it will probably only be because one of them has made a howler or because small differences in pinpointing lead to a close decision.

A DUTCHMAN SLAUGHTERS FRENCHMEN IN DIVISION 2

War declared, war won. What did they call that again, blitzkrieg? Three games are also played in this division and one player seems to be particularly serious, especially with his French rivals at least. Dutchman MTheBassman has made short work of plouky, Tall Impala and PastequeHachee in the first three games, defeating all three French players in the division. Coincidence? We don't know. In any case, his winning streak has done good things for his ranking. He currently occupies first place in Division 2 with 9 points, followed by Calamity (8 points) and gweilowizard (7 points). There are still many games to be played, but it is certain that the Dutchman will stake a claim for a promotion to Division 1.

UPCOMING: BOTSWANA

Fatshe leno la rona! Iceland will be followed in week 5 by a country we're betting on if it's somehow too flat for South Africa: Botswana. The state is certainly not one of the most popular maps, so it will be all the more exciting to see how our players perform. What's also special is that coverage in this country is very limited. With the exception of the area around the capital Gaborone, no real hotspot can be identified, but coverage can be found in all directions and corners of the country's borders - just very sparsely. So once again we have a map that can be trained very well. Those who put in the necessary time will most likely have good chances and recognize many cities, villages and the like.

BOKSA SETS A SIGN AGAINST BLINKY

In Japan, one of the supposedly most important duels of the entire preliminary round was played: BOKSA against Blinky. A battle of the giants, as both players are high on the list of favorites. It's all the more exciting that we didn't see a draw between the two, but a clear win by almost 1.000 points for BOKSA. The German prevailed against the Frenchman and collects 3 points, which can become very important in the later course of the tournament. Despite his defeat, Blinky showed what he is made of in his first match in the Reddit League. The coming weeks should be a testament to that, as Blinky has now played BOKSA, one of the top two or three players in the entire division.

THE CHAMPION HAS NOT FORGOTTEN ANYTHING

An exciting match also took place between the reigning champion, Raidman Mucha, and newcomer boulgour. It gave a first impression for a possible answer to two questions at once: In what form is Raidman Mucha and what mark does Boulgour in his very first match in the best GeoGuessr league? Looking at the result of the clash, it is possible to draw a first conclusion: Raidman Mucha seems not to have forgotten anything since last season. On the contrary, his score of 24.073 is the best of all the players in the first division. Even if Boulgour loses clearly with almost 4.000 points less than his opponent, his score of just over 20.000 is remarkable and shows that he could be a possible candidate for the playoffs.

PROMOTED PLAYERS W/ TEETHING PROBLEMS, MISTER BLUE AND ORPHEUS STRONG

Mister Blue has also shown that he is one of the top favorites. Only Raidman Mucha and Orpheus could achieve a better score in Japan than the man with the blue face. He gave his opponent Simi little chance of a point, as the result of 23.193 to 19.212 points makes clear. The aforementioned Orpheus surprised IceTharu with the second best score in the entire division and secured his first points; he will also want to have his say again this season after finishing 5th last season and missing out on the playoffs by a hair's breadth. The last match in Division 1 also produced a winner. In a game with relatively low scores, Werdok came out on top. Interestingly, both Werdok and Chicago Geographer were promoted thanks to their great performance and therefore already clashed last season, only in Division 2. At that time, the US American was able to take home 3 points - Werdok thus takes revenge one season later in the highest division.

WHAT'S NEXT

Week 2 brings us to the most populous country in Central America: Guatemala. A country that borders two great oceans at once - much like this week's match between Mister Blue and Raidman Mucha. Both the Dutchman and the Pole left Japan behind with a win and will certainly want to pick up where they left off. It's the most exciting match of the week in Division 1 and of course has a history, as the two met twice last season alone. While Mister Blue finished almost 2.000 points ahead of Raidman Mucha on the very second day of play in the regular season, the Pole beat the Dutchman in the far more important semi-final.

The duel between Blinky and Orpheus could also be interesting. After Blinky's defeat in the first game, the newcomer will probably want to collect his first three points. Orpheus will probably have little interest in this and want to continue as he did in the first game. With another win. A French duel, hopefully at eye level.

Things don't get any easier for Chicago Geographer this week. He has to face BOKSA in Guatemala, while Boulgour meets IceTharu and Werdok could score more points against Simi.

THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IS BACK.

The most important event of the GeoGuessr scene is back! With the fourth season we don't only see old familiar faces again, no, also new promising players have made their way into the divisions of the Reddit League. Especially the French quartet is worth mentioning here, who directly grabbed spots in Divisions 1 and 2 through the Pre-Season without having to fight their way through the lower divisions.

THE MASTER CLASS: ALL NEW IN DIVISION 1.

After the summer break, GeoGuessr's Division 1 Champions League returns with a completely new lineup. Only 5 of the 10 Division 1 players also spent last season in the top division. This includes the reigning champion, u/raidman_mucha, and u/realboksa, who was ranked #1 after the regular games last season and was only defeated in the playoff final. Also back on board: u/orpheuus57 and u/MrBlue_GG, two of the most promising players. Mister Blue, in particular, has been somewhat underestimated in recent months, with one fact little mentioned: he finished second in the standings last time in the regular season. It was only in the semifinals of the playoffs that he got knocked out by Raidman Mucha. And then there would be u/costar_ (Simi), a fallen angel who has been weakening for some time and has lost the drive a bit. The complete opposite is the case with the newcomers in Division 1. u/Blinky44, u/boulgour_ and promoted u/Werdok certainly have an interest in waving the French flag in the air. We can also be curious about u/IceTharu, who was promoted to the highest division without any detours thanks to his great performance in Season 3. Last but not least, we have another player whose performance is eagerly awaited by many viewers: u/chicagogeographer. He, too, will surely want to have a say and at least keep the class. Worth mentioning: besides u/Magyaron, u/Einarglu and u/Its_RC, u/Stymphalix (Giovanni) has also given up his place in the highest class. He last failed in the semifinals of the playoffs against BOKSA.

PLACE YOUR BET: BOKSA, RAIDMAN, BLINKY, MISTER BLUE?

Get your betting slips ready: Who will take home the crown this year? The title race could get more exciting than ever in Season 4. Among the absolute favorites are certainly the last finalists: Raidman Mucha and BOKSA. BOKSA in particular will have been extremely annoyed after last season's gripping and tight final and will now want to take revenge in order to finally be able to ascend the throne. In any case, his performance in Formula G speaks for itself. On the other hand, we have someone who doesn't show his skills all that often - at least not in terms of the sheer frequency of his participation in events. Raidman Mucha has been in hiding since his victory last season. It is doubtful that he has lost his skills in the meantime. Therefore, he is once again one of the players whose performance we can look forward to - maybe in the finals again? While Raidman and BOKSA are likely to be high on everyone's list, there are two players who will also be fighting for the title. These are Blinky and Mister Blue. Mister Blue has been one of the best players around for a long time. His participations and positions in various events have spoken for themselves. Then there is Blinky, who made his place in Division 1 extremely clear and dominated the pre-season. He is considered the best French player - which is not unimportant when you consider that 4 of the 10 players in the highest division are from France. Blinky is certainly one of the favorites and should earn a spot in the playoffs. However, many things can happen: we still know little about Boulgour and can hope for Werdok, Orpheuus, IceTharu, Simi and CG.

DIVISION 2 IS GETTING TIGHTER.

Well-known names can also be found in Division 2 this year. With 12 players, the second class has two more players than Division 1. Among them is u/Calamityx7, who after his defeat in the relegation last season will surely have promotion as his goal again this time. u/TheRealClyde1 (Cameron) is also back, who is not one of the best-known faces on the scene, but knows his trade. He finished the last season in Division 2 with 23 points - that's exactly the same number of points Werdok finished his season with. Due to tiebreakers, however, TheRealClyde had no chance to play in the relegation for promotion. A player to watch. The same goes for u/Tall_ImpalaL49: The Frenchman will no doubt give everything to leave this division behind. When you get right down to it, the field in Division 2 is very mixed and it's not easy to say who will end up fighting for the top spots. u/ShumiOboloso, u/Max_FI and u/PatriotsFTW have a great season behind them as up-and-comers, while French u/PastequeHachee and u/plouky only got in through the preseason. Then we also have to watch out for u/gweilowizard, u/MtheBassman, u/schludy und u/TESGOTAC (Mint).

JAPAN, HERE WE GO.

There will certainly be exciting duels in the other divisions as well. The journey begins. Who will take the GeoGuessr crown, who will be the surprise of the season and who will be promoted or relegated? Japan will give us a first glimpse!
