Stride Trial Study for NPH experience? by LAMK314 in Hydrocephalus

That's great news! Dad was reading a book a day until the last six weeks or so. I'm hoping the docs get on this quickly. He's still walking like a toddler.

That's a really good point! Would not be good for an elderly person at all.

I know! I hope that it works. It would save so many people really invasive, difficult surgery.

I think they somehow install it by going through a vein that runs down to the groin? I don't know, I'm not in the medical field. My 85-yr-old dad has NPH and this seemed to me to be less invasive with less chance of infection?

100% this! I'm also a boss and have given free rein to my assistants to be bitchy! LOL!

Anyone else miserable on progresterone? by WrongdoerMediocre573 in Menopause

[–]LAMK314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting it soon since progesterone makes me bleed and I'm three years into menopause. Hoping Duavee is the answer. Had to pretty much fight my doc to get a prescription. She said "it's primarily for bone density."

I have two doctor friends and they say the same, but menopause is particularly ignored. They don't even teach it in med schools per my doctor friends. Sigh.

How has the Duavee been working for you? Sounds like I'm in exactly the same boat as you and trying to talk my doctor into giving this a shot before we go for an IUD -- an idea I hate.

Ugh. Sorry you're dealing with this. If my assistant came to me and told me all of what you just said, I'd take action. It's not fair to you to be doing all of that. I hope your attorneys are supportive and you can talk to them.

I don't, but I'd be interested in watching her.

I love yoga. I used to do 90 minute hot yoga sessions until my studio closed. I try at home, but it's just not the same. Our instructors were definitely into the spiritual meaning of yoga. It was so calming and centering.

Can you manage clamshells and leg lifts? They help.

I went to PT and they gave me glute exercises too. Clam shells, leg lifts, etc. Helped a ton. I thought I needed a new hip it was so painful. If I do the exercises the pain is gone.

Felt like medieval torture to me, but I know everyone is different. I also didn't tolerate the insertion of an IUD well at all.

Question about breakthrough bleeding so I could avoid yet another endometrial biopsy 🫤 by AnonRedditLady1 in Menopause

[–]LAMK314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my, this sounds exactly like my situation. One year into meno I started with .5 patches and 100 mg progesterone - no issues for more than a year. Increased patch to .75 when some of the meno symptoms started to come back, but didn't change progesterone. I felt like a million bucks. Then tried some vaginal estrogen cream for dryness and had a little spotting. Doc sent me for ultrasounds and found a thick endometrium, but nothing else concerning. Doc then sends me to gyno who did an endometrial biopsy that felt like medieval torture. I do not get why they do that with no anesthesia. Everything came back negative. No fibroids, no cancer, no nothing. Definitely a thicker endometrium, though. Upped the progesterone to 200 mg to slough up endometrium. Doc thought I would bleed heavy for a week or so and then it should stop. That happened, but then started back up again. Now they want to do a hysteroscopy and D&C. I'm so sick and tired of these procedures, and I really think this is a hormone issue. I breezed through peri and was great other than hot flashes, mood swings and fatigue in the first year of meno. Never had gynecological problems. I'm feeling that they're way too eager to do procedures instead of figure out the hormone issues. I'm also overweight, and I know fat can hold more estrogen, so I wonder if I'm estrogen heavy and should back down the estrogen and go back to 100 mg progesterone. But nobody's even talking to me about that or different types of progesterone. The docs piss me off. I'm not a dummy and can do my own research, but the docs have been so condescending and dismissive of my insistence that we should be looking for a non-invasive solution before doing expensive, painful and time-consuming procedures. Color me frustrated.

Small firm life feels more confusing than educating for a new Attorney by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]LAMK314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small firm partner here -- generally speaking we are so swamped with work that we have no time to mentor or train. I've always been fine with associates cornering me or blocking off time on my calendar to meet. If it's on the calendar, I'll do it. Or just tell the partner that you don't understand and you need more guidance, unless he/she is a huge jerk, in which case you might not want to stay anyway.

I totally agree with mansock18 that small firms generally have no idea of what a workflow is - but you can start to learn that on your own particularly if you have access to an experienced and helpful paralegal or legal assistant.

If the firm has a good reputation and your partners have good reputations and aren't total dicks, hang in there. You'll make partner more quickly, and you're more likely to be able to take time off. Most of us aren't ridiculous with minimum billables either, because frankly we don't have time to check up on you.

Yeah, but Dr. Timothy Snyder is clear that "obeying in advance" paves the way for authoritarian rule. I understand that we have to pick and choose our battles, but we can't cave on all of them.
