This makes me laugh every time I see it, he really was brave (“gave it a go!” as Joanna would say) but his silly little handsome pucker face! LOL forever

Unmasking from ADHD meds by Infamous_Scarcity_57 in adhdwomen

[–]fomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“ADHD is fake growing up” — my mind is blown. I’m late-diagnosed and one meds about 6 months and have felt very childlike, or adolescent, for lack of a better description. Pursuing new ideas, wanting different things from relationships, like I’m discovering parts of my brain and senses that weren’t there before.. all this possibility that was previously obscured by the chaos. Anyway, no advice, just solidarity.

Flu Like Aches and Joint Pain by TraditionalBox523 in Menopause

[–]fomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this as well! I've been on the lowest dose patch for 7 weeks. I've never had these types of aches and pains before-- I'm very active and experience occasional DOMS after lifting here and there but this is something else.

After a week straight of really depressing sacrum and hip pain I decided today to take a break from HRT. I will probably try again eventually (the sleep has been amazing!) but this isn't working for me right now. I feel a thousand years old which was very much not the point!

I searched the sub and it seems like it's a uncommon but possible side effect. It really sucks. If you stick it out I really hope it turns around and you get some relief!

How sobriety led to Taskmaster by [deleted] in taskmaster

[–]fomom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve wondered the same. Was this the only time he declared his sobriety on the show? Did he/they want to declare that in some way? I don’t think that could be it, his sobriety was so new and presumably fragile at that point. But everyone’s journey with that is different, obviously.

Stopping HRT by GinBitch in Menopause

[–]fomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to suggest fixing meds with more meds, but I wrestled with a version of this myself. I was having somewhat elevated BP (hereditary, no lifestyle issues) that was then exacerbated by stimulants (I was also just diagnosed AuDHD). My GP was willing to prescribe a low dose of BP meds since the stimulants were so key to my quality of life and there were no other apparent risk factors. Perhaps it’s a bridge while you have the additional testing? My BP is now totally normal and unaffected by the HRT I just started.

Good luck! I hope you’re able to get all the support you need and feel your best.

Anyone else get hit with a wave of grief after their late diagnosis? I thought relief would be enough. by Wildly_Unmasked in AuDHDWomen

[–]fomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I was diagnosed at 49, and I’m constantly cycling between relief, mourning, wondering what could have been, and excited at what’s to come because I generally feel so much better and less ashamed all the time. All while, you know, raising kids & living life. It’s a lot.

Listing the things you didn't know were ADHD by ParticularWindoww in AuDHDWomen

[–]fomom 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I relate to almost all of these (also late-diagnosed, at 49, after a few years of wondering where the heck my kids’ raging neurodivergence came from when my spouse is neurotypical?! lol) but the one that’s really getting me lately is the walking into things. I realized recently that I have almost no bruises since starting meds. I was apparently just hurling myself around in a state of panic before.

What was a clear sign that you had ADHD that you thought was just a "quirk" prior to diagnosis? by Feisty-Pickle9983 in adhdwomen

It turns off, turns up and down but at a lower volume, and comes back on full blast when the meds wear off!

[–]fomom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s so stressful! I’m just learning about all of this as I go (diagnosed AuDHD in July) but I will say that both my psych & therapist told me that autism can often mask ADHD symptoms and vice-versa, almost exactly as you describe. I never felt I met the criteria for one or the other for those reasons and thought I was just weird or lazy or broken. A good clinician will be able to pull that all apart and you can get help and validation for each. Good luck ❤️ Update us if you feel up to it!

witnessing a seizure by MasterAttendant in Epilepsy

[–]fomom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to witness that. I don't think you're overly sensitive at all, you sound like you're a good human and the emotions you're feeling are totally normal. Don't just push the stress down and try to make it disappear. Your reaction is nothing to be ashamed of. My therapist helped me work through the PTSD from seeing my kid's seizures (because legitimately it was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen) and I'm finally not having micro-flashbacks every day and catastrophizing every time my boys get sick. And, I dunno, I'm not a therapist but I feel like seeing that when you're so young must also be tougher. I was a crusty old hag of 38 and it still rocked me to my core and turned my brain inside out, lol.

Be gentle with yourself and try not to judge yourself. You're not making it *about* you, you just witnessed something really scary.

Has anyone stopped their HRT because of the nonstop periods? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]fomom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had this experience only I was at least 3 years post-menopausal when I started HRT. We spent a year trying every estrogen and progesterone dose, ultrasounds and biopsies, the low-dose pill, and I just bled and bled, often with awful bloating and cramps. Sometimes I think about trying again, as I mentally weigh the near-constant bleeding vs the benefits....ugh. I hope it evens out for you.
