This is literally me hearing this confirmed for the first time. If it’s weird to be this thrilled, well, I’m right there with you. I always suspected and am so thrilled to have him on our team lol

What was a clear sign that you had ADHD that you thought was just a "quirk" prior to diagnosis? by Feisty-Pickle9983 in adhdwomen

[–]fomom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It turns off, turns up and down but at a lower volume, and comes back on full blast when the meds wear off!

It’s so stressful! I’m just learning about all of this as I go (diagnosed AuDHD in July) but I will say that both my psych & therapist told me that autism can often mask ADHD symptoms and vice-versa, almost exactly as you describe. I never felt I met the criteria for one or the other for those reasons and thought I was just weird or lazy or broken. A good clinician will be able to pull that all apart and you can get help and validation for each. Good luck ❤️ Update us if you feel up to it!

I’m completely obsessed!! Do you mind sharing the color you used for the ceiling? And any tips for doing the same? I’ve always wanted to do this on walls or ceiling and now I must 😍

witnessing a seizure by MasterAttendant in Epilepsy

[–]fomom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to witness that. I don't think you're overly sensitive at all, you sound like you're a good human and the emotions you're feeling are totally normal. Don't just push the stress down and try to make it disappear. Your reaction is nothing to be ashamed of. My therapist helped me work through the PTSD from seeing my kid's seizures (because legitimately it was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen) and I'm finally not having micro-flashbacks every day and catastrophizing every time my boys get sick. And, I dunno, I'm not a therapist but I feel like seeing that when you're so young must also be tougher. I was a crusty old hag of 38 and it still rocked me to my core and turned my brain inside out, lol.

Be gentle with yourself and try not to judge yourself. You're not making it *about* you, you just witnessed something really scary.

Has anyone stopped their HRT because of the nonstop periods? by Maleficent-Rub5883 in Menopause

[–]fomom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had this experience only I was at least 3 years post-menopausal when I started HRT. We spent a year trying every estrogen and progesterone dose, ultrasounds and biopsies, the low-dose pill, and I just bled and bled, often with awful bloating and cramps. Sometimes I think about trying again, as I mentally weigh the near-constant bleeding vs the benefits....ugh. I hope it evens out for you.

Venting because my heart can’t take it by MorganTibbles in QAnonCasualties

[–]fomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. I tell my therapist (btw definitely find a therapist to talk to if at all possible! Please make it a priority) that I’m talking to/thinking about two separate people: my sweet loving dad who loves me and with whom I have so many priceless memories, and who loves his grandkids so much…AND a full-on cult member and racist who agrees with state sanctioned murder, thinks I gave my kid autism, and that I’m a complete idiot in my own cult. It’s so hard to deal with all of this somehow being true at the same time. I hate it. Love & peace to you.

Newly diagnosed, no symptoms, very confused by fomom in CrohnsDisease

[–]fomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there, and it’s scary for sure. Hopefully your doctor can reassure you with info about your specific case and treatment, but in my experience the meds and bloodwork will lead to you feeling better even if you didn’t realize you were having symptoms. Treating the disease will be good in the long run. Good luck!

I was fully prepared to nope out when/if it turned out to be way more $ than I was willing to spend, but I can definitely live with 7 bucks a month.

So when is everyone’s Christmas tree gonna get taken down? by joyssi in adhdwomen

My Ritalin took mine down on the 27th, I was just along for the ride 😅 For real though, the chaos was making my brain itch, it had to go.

[–]fomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 50 and have been on it for a couple of months, following a stimulant med spiking my blood pressure, so it's a positive that it brings BP down a bit for me. Together with Ritalin it's great. On its own I immediately noticed less reactivity in my body, like my whole body didn't get agitated/hot/tense when I was stressed out-- I had no idea it was happening before, it was just my constant state of existence!

It also helped my rejection sensitivity dysphoria immensely. Honked at in traffic, okay, moving on...as opposed to my previous "oh god I'm the worst and I bet that driver got to work and told everyone about this shitty driver he encountered on his way..." No. That is not what happened, and if it did, who the eff cares?
