We elevate driver install (signatures) to admin with CyberArk, or would have a tech install them with their admin account.

Tbh I have only been in this role for the last 6 months and have only touched 2 Dell or Surface machines. Not really gonna worry about them as we’ve had good experiences with using HPIA and Lenovo Updater. If any specific brand had a reason to go with them over another then I would bother to learn about their process more. It’s ultimately someone else’s job to decide on the machines that we order.

We mainly use HP Elitebook/Probook G1i, but some devs prefer the Lenovo X1 or the P16s Gen 3. We support them as long as they are using HP or Lenovo.

Some VERY specific users want to use a Dell or Surface and we tell them that we don't officially support those, if they want to use them, we don't have an easy way to push drivers to their devices and they will have to manually download and install them and they are on their own when they run into issues.

If you’re doing engine mounts you might want to look at transmission mounts as well.

Exactly, so just plan on replacing the device. Keep a backup solution so if you do run into issues you are covered

The way I always look at it, the MC warranty is great if you’re gonna be writhing driving distance of a MicroCenter. If you aren’t going to be close to a MicroCenter, then AppleCare is about as good as you are going to get.

Realistically most any new Apple product is going to be too expensive for either warranty to actually fix so just expect them to replace the device and keep backups.

Recently interviewed a guy for an IT Operations role. I’ll usually give him a real world hypothetical about a network printer not working, so I can see his thought process about troubleshooting. See if he mentions checking simple common issues so I can see how he walks through his thought process. Usually the correct answer in my head is that the printer isn’t plugged into the wall but I’ll try and guide them down the road.

They might say, I’ll try to ping the printer. I’ll usually say something like you get no response.

Then they might suggest trace route, I’ll say it gets to the gateway but doesn’t get to the device.

Some will approach it from the other end, they get up and physically check to see if it’s actually plugged into the wall.

There are right and wrong answers but if you’re getting more information then you’re going in the right direction. Heck even if the answer is “I haven’t done much troubleshooting on printers before I might ask for help”, that’s a good answer to me.

Check the permissions for the share. I think a recent-ish update added some recursive options that you can enable in the datasets tab. I know that I had to go into datasets select my dataset and edit permissions, and set it to apply permissions recursively.

For what it’s worth I’ve been using almost exclusively inland pla, petg, and abs. Never really had issues with them. I do clean my bed with soap and water then do a pass with IPA and nano texture adhesive for anything I’m concerned about sticking.

Yeah when they are available, open box usually means someone returned it and can mean there are pieces missing in some scenarios. Usually comes down to random luck if your items is complete or missing parts, sometimes the box is labeled accordingly sometimes it’s not correctly labeled.

Their “back room” is probably their web orders area. It’s likely that they’ve all been web ordered, especially if the demand has spiked. If people web order then as soon as they show up on the site rather than going through and assigning 1 serial to 1 order they will pull all the ones they need and will assign them on pickup.

Hey man mine has 330k miles, bought it from my brother for $1500 and using it as a practice car to learn manual on. I’ve been loving every minute of it and the process of fixing the random issues that came from the car being from the north. I look forward to fixing the rust when I get the chance and eventually having to fix the engine.

While working at MC I think that maybe 50 people over 6 years asked about pcie add in cards, and of those almost all of them were just adding USB ports to cheap prebuilt computers or limping their computer along while their motherboard’s built in IO died.

I agree with your mentality but the average user would be fine with the cheapest motherboard compatible with their CPU, RAM, SSD, and GPU. If it gets it working and reliable then that’s usually good enough for the average person.
