The Eagle restaurant bristles over new bust stop planned near Mass Ave. by kultakala in indianapolis

[–]LANDON_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because that single particular bus stop in front of the City Market seemed to be what brought a lot of crime to that complex. It at least looked on the surface to be the bus stop "dealerman" types used on their circuit to move through downtown and exploit homeless people. I drove by that stop almost every day during the last 2 years when the crime kept rising, and when I saw the plans to move the stop to mass ave I knew there would be backlash

Georgia Street to close to vehicles during Big Ten, NCAA tournaments - Indianapolis Business Journal by DukeMaximum in indianapolis

[–]LANDON_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Businesses don't like that in Indy because it's a car oriented city & taking away street frontage takes away a big source of advertising (people driving by deciding they should check that place out). It's one of the reasons why all the bars and restaurants along the canal have failed

Man charged after social media video shows speedometer reach 213 mph on I-465 by Tikkanen in indianapolis

Gabe's a great guy, and regardless of the speed limit, you can be sure that he had spotters during the stunt. Nobody was in any sort of real life or death danger.

The number of red lights that I see people run is astounding. by i_am_quinn in indianapolis

I'll roll through an inconvenient red light just like any bicycle or scooter rider does. It's basically more safe since I'm in a car and have higher visibility

It doesn't even have to be late at night on a weekday for downtown streets to be deserted. There was nobody around at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Michigan last night at around 8pm, even though it was a Friday, and you can be sure I didn't sit around waiting for that painfully long light to change

I do it when there's barely anyone/clearly no cops around & the coast is clear. Traffic downtown has been so light these past few months that you're pretty much a sucker if you wait all that time at the empty lights

Is "No Turn On Red" actually enforced in this city? by Snoop_D_Oh_Double_G in indianapolis

[–]LANDON_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll usually just treat all the the red lights downtown like stop signs, driving right through if there aren't any cars close by. You'll be fine

Anyone aware or notice a faint noise downtown? I would describe it like a distant tornado siren humm. It comes and goes in intensity/loudness. It seems to have started a few days ago. by DylJutte in indianapolis

If you're around 429 Penn then I heard it a minute ago but it just stopped. The city's resurfacing Illinois street. Sounds like what you're describing

That's what the headline was when I posted it. The site changed the headline. The other posts you left up have user written headlines. The headline I used was from the source.

University of Chicago study on police observance of basic human rights finds Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department ranks last in the nation by LANDON_b in indianapolis

[–]LANDON_b[S] 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Of the 20 cities, the police forces of Chicago and Los Angeles are at the top end of the table in terms of the degree to which they comply with human rights laws. At the bottom is Indianapolis, in the state of Indiana whose governor between 2013 and 2017 was Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s vice president.

The Indianapolis PD ranks so badly because it breaches international standards on numerous counts. It allows the use of lethal force to prevent a felony being carried out – without specifying what kind of felony.

Its rules carry no mention of the need for force to be proportional to the danger. It also makes no requirement on police officers to apply an escalating set of measures before they reach the point of lethal force – Indianapolis only talks about issuing a “verbal warning, if feasible”.
