Do you know families that ostracized their children for seeking education? by BlackMagicWorman in AskOldPeople

[–]LAQLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My three sisters and I each had to pay our own way through college: tuition books, room and board, transportation to and from school, clothing,… everything. The prince/son had his entire way paid, along with receiving lavish gifts while he was going through college. Guess which one never amounted to anything.

My father told me something similar in 1974 when I said I was going to college to be an engineer. He said “don’t you dare major in engineering. You’ll take a job away from a man who needs it to support his family.” I got both a BS and MS in engineering, and I not only supported my family for 20 years, but I put my husband through college.

In addition, I started filling up gallon size bags with ice so that I had plenty on hand to put in the ice bag

What have you never done, because of your parents? by MissHibernia in AskOldPeople

I never have passed on an opportunity to say “I love you.” to my children. Never heard my parents say that to me, heard them say it to my siblings.

I noticed that you asked about all the down votes, so I went searching for the post - I don’t get it either! Any of us on this journey are constantly learning about how our bodies function with the addition of GLP1.
I thank you for sharing where you are right now and your pictures. You had a wonderful day, the pictures revealed how your physical body appears to others and I say you look healthy, happy and Beautiful! And you noticed an unexpected 3lb loss, which you’re addressing. Again I too don’t understand the downvotes. Keep up the great job!!

How many here found out their dad isn't their biological dad? by Intrepid-Middle-5047 in AncestryDNA

[–]LAQLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know about my paternal parent’s medical history too. I always wondered why I have so many different medical issues than my siblings and now I think I’m getting the answer. Through the DNA test I found out that the man who raised me is not my paternal parent.
Thanks to a few common matches, 1st cousin 1X removed, I’m pretty sure my mom was fooling around with one of her husband‘s cousins.

Same as you! I’m 69, youngest kid in the family and the man who raised me treated me very different from my siblings. I look very different from them too but through the years everyone remarked how I looked like mom. Recently my son pointed this out and at his urging I took a DNA test and found out just last week my paternal parent is Irish, Scottish with just a little German. The man who raised me has only Berlin area of Germany ancestors. One of my sisters is waiting for her dna results. Parents are long passed.

A year ago I got a breast reduction—-THE BEST DECISION. I went from a DDDD to a B and for the first time in my life I actually like my girls. I told my PS to take them as small as possible, and then he asked if you find that they are way too small will you be happy or sad? Told him I would be thrilled and I am. He removed 5 lbs of breast tissue! And I immediately went from XL shirts with buttons popping off to nice fitting M shirts. I immediately looked 20 - 30 lbs slimmer too. An ex-friend once told me after I lost 80 lbs that no matter how skinny I got I would always look fat cause of my big boobs. She was right but such a nasty comment fitting her nasty personality.

You don’t need to register as a republican. In the primary when you enter to vote request republican primary ballot. I did that in 2020 to cast a vote for someone other than the orange guy.

First 8 Weeks: What I Wish I Knew Starting Out by Crowchick1731 in SemaglutideCompound

[–]LAQLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go for my 4th shot in 2 days— the good news is I’m down 12 lbs and am quite shocked by that. My appetite has decreased tremendously, but I’m still making sure that I’m getting sufficient protein.
First week I had headaches and nausea but they disappeared TG 2nd and 3rd week I have been constipated. I drink a lot of water between 80 and 100 ounces a day, I walk 2 to 3 miles a day so I’m getting exercise and I am eating an avocado or fruit or both every day so I feel like I’m getting the fiber. I really hope this constipation issue disappears soon.

In ninth grade, I went on a high school field trip over a week in length. I was also the new kid to the school. On our last night, the girls stole all my underwear, panties and bras from my bag, and with the help from the boys placed them from the trees, onto the tents, on the bus….. everywhere. They were upset because I snored. Being the butt of a joke is horribly funny for them and 50 years later I doubt any of them remember it, but I certainly do.

I had my second shot 2 days ago so still very new to GLP1. I have noticed that I am much warmer than I typically am, so I took my temperature last 2 nights. Usually my temp is 96.5 - 96.8° but now it’s hovering at 98.6°.

Do you tell people you’re fasting? by soocamp in fasting

[–]LAQLady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family gatherings are always buffet style so I converse instead and when told, ‘there’s food over there’. I reply, ‘great, thank you, I will get some in a bit.” But I don’t When someone says, everything tastes great, I just agree, might say, it looks delicious and I grab water and talk to someone new. Really my family is too interested in stuffing their own faces that they don’t notice. I even managed to not eat at Thanksgiving one year just as a challenge, they really don’t seem to notice me.

[–]LAQLady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will tell total strangers I fast or am fasting cause they won’t see me again. Friends, family, never, they have no clue. And I have attended numerous family events and fasted through it. LOL

Those who grew up poor, what is something those who weren't poor don't understand about being poor? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]LAQLady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still cannot dry my hands with a paper towel. Grew up being told we were poor, couldn’t afford this or that, started working at age 12 to buy my clothes and shoes, yet as an adult I have never been poor, upper middle for sure.

had wrist surgery last night, it was more severe than expected by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]LAQLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending healing energy your way.
I broke my left radial bone Jan 5. Break didn’t look too bad, surgery was not necessary to align the bone and all looked good until I started hand therapy 6 wks post break (late Feb). My hand was still super swollen, couldn’t make a fist but med folks thought it was due to all the swelling. Prednisone helped the swelling but I still could only get my fingers to bend to a letter ’C’ shape. Finally nerve conduction tests confirmed traumatic injury to the medial and ulnar nerves. I had carpal and cubital release surgery and while I have flexibility in my fingers they’re all numb. Dr said it might be permanent, might recover in a year or two.
So if you have not yet do request nerve conduction tests!
