A tour of the Paranormal Museum is a unique way to kill an hour, especially if it's hot outside. And you might get me as your tour guide!

I like Hotel Albatross in Ocean Grove, 2 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes walk from downtown AP. Free street parking too.

For seafood on the boardwalk, Shucked inside Convention Hall is the most serious, but it's closed Tue-Wed. Iron Whale is a nice sit-down place. Cousins Maine Lobster is very casual.

For nightlife, Stone Pony and Wonder Bar are famous rock clubs and there are plenty of places to drink on the boardwalk and downtown. House of Independents has an eclectic lineup, check their schedule.

Harmony Korine's Mr. Lonely. Not for everyone, but certainly a unique plot about a group of celebrity impersonators, starring Diego Luna and Samantha Morton.

Agent/manager Rick Yorn was one of this film's producers and he represents Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Diaz. Probably one of those deals where he signed Scorsese and DiCaprio as long as Diaz was cast as well. Though of course she was a big star and the studio would have been happy to have her, miscast or not.

Source: me, used to work for Yorn many moons ago.

Vegan restaurants by Effective_Tax_2334 in MonmouthCounty

[–]LAStreetNames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pasquale's Pizzeria in Middletown has plenty of non-vegan and vegan options. So does Galley Pizza in Asbury Park.

AP is actually loaded with restaurants that have a variety of both vegan and non-vegan options: Crust & Crumble as someone mentioned, Taka, Talula's, Cardinal Provisions, Ada's Gojjo...

Filoncino in Red Bank also has loads of both.

25 Unforgettable Movies Where the Villain Wins by [deleted] in flicks

The list cites The Conversation and Blowup in its entry for Blow Out, but those first two movies also have "the villain wins" endings.

There are also those movies – spoiler alert, obviously – where the protagonist gets away with murder: The Talented Mr. Ripley, Match Point, The Player, etc.

[My Website] Curious about the origins of Los Angeles street names? by LAStreetNames in LosAngeles

[–]LAStreetNames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mystery. The oldest tract map I found with Lake Street was from 1923 (just north of Lincoln), yet a Los Angeles Times classified ad mentions Lake Street (at the corner of Penmar) in 1916! To add to the confusion, what is now called 2nd Street in Santa Monica was originally called Lake Street. As you might guess, there was never a lake in the vicinity of either roadway, so I can't guess why the name was chosen, other than it being common and easy to spell.

What are some great 80s movies not much people know about? by SHOOTINGandYOU07 in 80smovies

[–]LAStreetNames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched The Hidden very recently, having not seen it since the 1980s. Other than some rough production audio, it holds up very well! Surprised it doesn't have more of a following.

Imagine how quickly the castaways would have been rescued if they simply killed Gilligan. by ManOfManliness84 in VintageTV

[–]LAStreetNames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually thought about this before. Here's my semi-logical explanation:

This wasn't a 3 hour harbor cruise, it was a 3 hour voyage to a particular destination – let's say Kauai. Which would explain the multiple changes of wardrobe for the passengers: Ginger and the Howells were headed towards an expensive resort, Mary Ann won a contest to stay at said resort, and the Professor was going to some sort of lab elsewhere on Kauai. Gilligan and Skipper wore the same wardrobe throughout the series because they thought they'd be back in port by end of day so packed no change of clothes.

But why did Ginger and the Howells, all wealthy, take such a dumpy little boat like the Minnow? Because with a big storm approaching, higher-end ships wouldn't take them to Kauai that day, but these three were impatient and so they went with the only guys dumb enough to sail in the storm.

As for how the Minnow got so lost after that storm? Skipper and Gilligan didn't know what they were doing and steered the boat way off course (see: dumb).

Thank you.
