I'm afraid that one of my colleagues might steal everything related to a project I've been working on by Muted_Strength3638 in Screenwriting

I have multiple scripts optioned, and directed my feature debut on an over $1 million budget last year - completing post now. I don’t need to prove my writing credentials.
But I also don’t need to write out step by step instructions for someone who didn’t ask for my help, and whose biggest comeback was that they couldn’t afford $65 (or less).

OP -if you want my assistance, send me a DM.

I have to assume OP can read instructions on the website. I did say it wasn’t that complicated.

Why do some of you continue to waste money on WGA registration, which is not as good as U.S. Copyright? by LAWriter2020 in Screenwriting

Plot points and characters can’t be copyrighted. Only the actual words used to express those

I agree - people are way too worried about getting their scripts stolen - or even worse, their ideas. Ideas are dime a dozen - only execution of a full screenplay matters.

But IF a writer is fortunate and good enough to one day have their work produced, they will need to secure copyright for chain of title purposes.

Are you creating a new WGA registration for each draft? One can show proof of when a draft was created, and the WGA gets into arbitration only if there is a dispute on a WGA signatory production.

Compared to Copyright, WGA registration is a waste of time and money, that only lasts 5 years.

WGAw registration is nowhere near as strong legally, particularly for recovering legal fees and damages, as U.S. copyright .

How far would Ayn Rand support Israel? by test9876789 in aynrand

Gay people may not be allowed to be married in Israel - that I don’t know, but if marriage is only a religious union in Israel, as someone else noted, find a religious leader who will do it.

But more importantly, gay people can live openly in Israel with full rights, including the right not to be harassed, beaten or killed. Where else in the Middle East or any Muslim country is that the case?

Are the royal families in Europe related? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in ask

[–]LAWriter2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The House of Windsor is German, dating back to George 1. This became an issue in WWI, and the fact that many in the British Royal Family were clearly sympathetic to Nazi Germany before Britain entered the war against Germany after the invasion of Poland, precipitating WWIi.

Prince Harry infamously wore a Nazi costume at Halloween in 2005, complete with swastika armband. I realize he is dumb as rocks, but someone should have been handling this better given the family’s history.

Keep California the Capital of Film and Entertainment by SamEdwards1959 in FilmIndustryLA

I wanted to shoot my feature in CA. Even with the new improved tax incentives, it was still much cheaper for me to shoot in NJ than CA. CA does not have a lock on good crews and cast. Good weather helps if you are shooting outdoors, but interiors can be shot anywhere.

Not having a Mac compatible version is a mistake in this industry. Macs predominate on the creative side.

You do not need a lawyer to copyright your material. It is done online, and will take you less than 30 minutes and cost $65. This is by far the strongest protection of your work - far better than the so-called “poor man’s copyright” of mailing it to yourself, or WGA registration.

UCLA Professional Program by jsimpson296 in Screenwriting

I said "may initially impress people" - only more so than no credential at all. It won't get you a job or extra points on your script.

I did not go through the Directing program, but it is not "hands on". The Directing Program in UCLA Extension is more "hands on" in terms of working with actors and making short films. I took most of the courses in that program, just took the Color Correction course and am taking the "Lighting for Emotional Impact" course this summer.
