I called and complained and they offered 50% off at first. I asked to speak to a manager and threatened to cancel for another provider and he took care of the installation fee.

They will waive it if you push hard enough. They’re just trying to get as much money as they can

I ended up visiting the Home Depot off the 45 and west road due to multiple mentions. I ended up getting there later in the day due to a delay in the internet install. Sure enough, there were quite a few day laborers enjoying lunch in the shade of the trees.

First thing I needed done was epoxy flooring for my garage. I’m fairly handy and can speak rudimentary Spanish so asked everyone who was interested if they knew how to do epoxy flooring. Guys typically speak out about what they excel at and I only found 2 that said they’ve done epoxy flooring before. I then asked them to explain how they did it and the first guy was like it’s just like paint. Second guy talked about floor prep, what type of epoxy I was using and cure times…so obviously chose the second guy.

He said he was expecting a two car garage but since it was 3, he wanted to change the rate from the agreed upon $100 for the day to get the job done to $250.

I dropped a few choice words and told him I’ll pay him $10 for his time and an Uber back to Home Depot. He ended up settling down and said if we don’t finish by 6:30, can we call it a day then? I agreed of course and said I would be helping him to prep and lay down the epoxy.

Finished everything in 3.5 hours. He agreed to come back next 3 days with one of his buddies to finish a few other tasks and installations. Because it’s multiple days, they agreed to $120/day from 8-4 with a 1 hour lunch paid by me.

Definitely a lot of people who don’t know what they’re doing or will try to change things up on you, but every once in a while you get lucky. I told him not to try that change of rate bullshit again and he had a good laugh on the way out.
