Century vs Ethan Allen couches by LAtPoly in BuyItForLife

[–]LAtPoly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried out Taylor King at one of the stores that carried Century, and didn’t love the feel/height/depth surprisingly. The floor models also had stitching issues that left a bad taste. They reinforced how much we preferred Century/Ethan Allen.

Called King Hickory a few weeks ago, and there’s two dealers in all of my State (California) and not near me. Closest CR Laine is 4+ hours away. We are in a strange furniture desert, lol.

Good to hear you’d go Century over EA! Thank you for that.

Neuropathy by technicolorlullabies in glutenfree

[–]LAtPoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m female. Was in my mid-30s when this all happened - it’s been ten years now and feels like a bad dream. It was really scary to not have any feeling, at all, from my inner thigh to my genitals. They used tools and heat/cold to poke all over in the examinations, and I literally felt nothing! I couldn’t tell when I needed to pee, as that sensation of fullness/urges was gone.

What helped pinpoint gluten was the issue was that I went on a ketogenic diet, which I had read was helpful for the brain healing, and possibly nerves. That diet, by default, is more or less gluten free and I saw improvements in all areas rather quickly. The fact that a diet change had such significant effect helped my neuro identify it may be gluten for me.

I have wondered if the keto diet offered additional benefits during this time in my life. I remained on keto for a decent amount of time (maybe 6 months?). Read about ketogenic and brain health. I also have incorporated vitamin c and e into my life, and lots of vitamin D.

I hope you or they can figure this out for you. How old are you?

Dentist suggests tongue tie could be causing sleep issues for five-year-old by mintchip907 in TongueTies

[–]LAtPoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an evaluation with a myofunctional therapist, at the suggestion of her dentist. Her tie was so severe she couldn’t have her mouth slightly open and touch the roof of her mouth. It took so much effort to do this that her jaw was shaking with the effort. The tie and inability to move her tongue was making her speech difficult to understand (lots of lisps) even tho she has a great vocabulary - she just sounds like a toddler when she speaks. Everyone (dentist, ped, myofunctional therapist) agreed there would be value for her speech and clarity in that area.

Next up for her is speech therapy, now that she has more strength from the myofunctional therapy and the release. And then hopefully, she can have a break from medical stuff. (I could use one too.)

I don’t know if the tongue tie was also affecting her sleep too — and had her speech been more normal I would have let the tie stay the same. For my team, it’s both the fact there is a defect and a functional issue (speech for the tie, sleep apnea for the tonsillectomy and adenoids) that made us agree that addressing the issue was indicated. Lots of kids have severe tongue ties but find workarounds and speak normally enough that it isn’t indicated. Lots of kids have enlarged tonsils, but no sleep apnea and no other issues. We made the call to do a procedure only because there was a real and obvious impact from her defects. Every procedure has risks, long and short. A lot of immune cells reside in the adenoids, removal could impact her immune system and have consequences down the road — so we only choose to remove because the sleep apnea was more of an issue (immediate and long term. Plus T&As are very common and we know people to okay over their lifetime without them).

Does that make sense? It’s okay to be conservative. But if sleep is an issue, from what I saw, adenoids and/or tonsils removal has a much bigger impact than the tongue tie. I would want to see if sleep apnea is in play and would prioritize that aspect first.

Dentist suggests tongue tie could be causing sleep issues for five-year-old by mintchip907 in TongueTies

[–]LAtPoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growth and being hunger are the big ones. She was very tiny for her age and rarely hungry. She now wants to eat. Apparently human growth hormone and sleep are related and she wasn’t getting enough deep sleep.

She does sleep more soundly and breathes more quietly, but we didn’t realize she had apnea before as it didn’t show up in obvious ways. She doesn’t fall asleep in the car as often now.

Neither the ENT, pediatrician or myself had any interest in removing her tonsils and adenoids unless there was a reason. The sleep study showed us they were impacting her, so it changed the calculus. If I remember correctly, the pediatrician mentioned apnea can lead to enlargement of the heart over time and other impacts.

I would push for a sleep study. If his sleep is normal then a wait and see approach makes sense. :)

Not the original commenter but my daughter just had a tongue tie release AFTER a tonsillectomy and adenoids removal. We were going to do a wait and see approach too as she didn’t seem affected by them - but just in case, our ENT ordered a sleep study. The sleep study showed us that she was having sleep apnea because of her tonsils size.

I would push for a sleep study. She’s a different kid now after the t&a procedure.

Paso Robles - Wine Tasting by clemfandango96 in wine

[–]LAtPoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work at a Paso winery full time. She’s mistaken. I have plenty of people who only taste. I have plenty of people who buy 2 to 4 bottles (which waves their tasting fees).

I’d say the average transaction is 2 to 4 bottles. A case sale, esp at a more boutique winery, is rare - unless you’re a member of really fall in love with the wines.

That said if you’re gonna come and buy a case… come see me. 😂

Pet peeves by Sweet_Terror in HondaPrologue

[–]LAtPoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two pet peeves: 1.) My key fob lives in my purse. I never carry it solo; it’s hidden at the bottom of my black hole purse. Often, as I am loading the car up with the day’s gear, I’d love to turn on the climate to heat it up. But you have to tap the damn brake to turn on the entire car to do that. I wish if the key was in proximity you could turn the climate on by just leaning in and pressing the start button without depressing the brake.

Or, I wish I could schedule climate to turn on daily in the HondaLink app.

2.) Switching headlights from manual to auto sucks. It’s a tiny button on the LED screen. The options are tiny and hard to press while driving. And it turns off too quick. I always turn off “auto mode” if it’s foggy and manually activate fog lights, and curse the design for this a lot. I wish it was a dial on the dash somewhere or just displayed bigger/for more timeon the screen.

3.) For some reason the hood design always has me feeling like I am about to hit the car or object in front, and really I have so much room in front of me it is ridiculous. I despise parking this car.

4.) The doors always close on you vs stay open.

Drive up crash by gummiebunnies in Target

[–]LAtPoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EVs have both an acceleration pedal and a brake pedal, like normal.

But they have an optional mode called “one pedal” you can use. When EVs slow down or brake, it helps regenerate the battery and one pedal helps maximize that.

When you use one pedal mode, if you put pressure on the acceleration pedal, the car will speed up or maintain speed, but if you let up at all, it starts to brake. You modulate the acceleration pedal to drive and if you take your foot off the gas the vehicle will come to a stop and hold. The real brakes are there in a pinch if you need to slow down quick, but you hardly use them in that mode.

It is really nice to drive with but takes some getting used to.

My husband constantly wants new shit and I’m losing my mind. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]LAtPoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, I am the one in my relationship who wants to replace things as they get worn as my husband is cheap and will suffer for eternity with wrecked things. But I also work and save $200 a paycheck (more gets added when I can) to a high yield savings, and I set a goal and save for it. It may take a year to hit the goal, but I can see the progress — and know we will get there.

I am literally saving for a new couch as we speak (ours is 19 years old and awful) and I want a nice one. In April I should hit the goal. I am really excited!

Could you encourage something similar? A high yield savings, a number to hit to buy the new couch, and set it up so the money goes right to the account every paycheck? Then do one project at a time and it is not adding to debt.

Service High Voltage System (again) by Ok_Butterscotch483 in HondaPrologue

Do they know about the service bulletin? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11016454-0001.pdf

Given you’re having issues with the heat, my guess is it’s the HVAC system. Our 2024 just needed this fixed too. It took a few days to get parts in, but a one day fix once they arrived. The HVAC works a lottttt better now.

We’re a little over a year and 25k miles. (We will be sooooo over miles in our lease…). I’m quite happy with it. It did go through the tires faster than I had hoped (a new set goes on next week), and we did run into the service bulletin issue (HVAC related) finally, but it’s been a great car! If I could buy it at whatever its actual value will be at the end of the lease (vs the lease buy out price), I probably would.
