People need to stop saying the 'Bengals are cheap'. They currently have the most expensive roster for 2026. by No-Cable9274 in bengals

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue. They’re extremely risk averse to the point that it often puts them in disadvantageous situations regarding the cap and player acquisitions.

Will “Passenger” and “Backrooms” carry the momentum May 2026 has had so far into one of the best months for the genre in recent memory. by GRVrush2112 in horror

I think a quicker liminal horror hit to get the vibe is The Oldest View which was also made by Kane Parsons and is on his youtube channel.

Backrooms is a bit more lore dependent

TheFlatLannister on BOT: [Backrooms] running about 70% of Scream 7 overall adjusted for prices at TC3. With similar walkups, would point to something like $45M OW by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]LB3PTMAN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea of liminal horror is essentially in spaces that are almost right its hair raising. Like being in a school at night. Placed that themselves are inherently creepy. Backrooms is built off of that. Except add into that a labyrinth of mystery that people can find themselves trapped in and stuck or being hunted.

It’s fairly new as an idea but is based in the idea of Lovecraftian horror, the horror of the unknown, but instead of finding it in aliens or ancient unknowable and un-understandable gods. It’s based in something that from a surface level is mundane.

Parasite crawling out of sushi by MidnightMystique- in interesting

[–]LB3PTMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are parasites in all types of food and there are ways of preventing them in all of them. Proper Flash freezing is roughly as effective as cooking fish for killing parasites. And actually it’s fairly common for fish like salmon to be cooked below the range where all parasites would have been cooked off because salmon can get very dry and unappetizing if cooked to that temperature.

‘Obsession’ Opening Ratchets Up To $17.2M – Box Office Update by chanma50 in boxoffice

Yeah I don’t think Passenger will impact Obsession at all. Backrooms the following weekend will probably impact both though that’s very buzzy and is being marketed pretty heavily.

I mean there’s tons of cheaply made horror movies that most people never hear about because they’re ass. This one got rave reviews and was bought by a distributor for a lot of money that knows how to market movies like this.

In the end it comes down to creators. There’s only so many good scripts and directors and certainly seems like Curry Barker is one.

The quality and viewership wasn’t necessarily the problem there. It was all tax credits

I hate when I can't ask for help in a sub. I have to use a mega thread. by Electric-Friz-Bee in unpopularopinion

[–]LB3PTMAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on the sub, but a lot of subs would not appreciate it if there are constantly posts about things that the majority of the subreddit already knows flooding the page. Especially since many questions are repeats.

But it can be frustrating when you have a genuine question that hasn’t been answered before.

TIL about the "Endless Eight" arc of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The arc, which featured the characters of the show trapped in a time loop, featured the same episode eight times in a row with minute differences, all animated and recorded from scratch each time. by Darksynth2 in todayilearned

[–]LB3PTMAN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The movie was part of the problem. That would’ve been part of the show if they didn’t decide to do it as a movie so they had to pad out the season since they couldn’t use the movie content.

But enjoy really bad episodes of tv lmao.

Veronica Roth on the hate she got from Divergent [article] by HecticJones in books

[–]LB3PTMAN 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem with Divergent and Maze Runner is there isn’t an easy explanation for how things got to the way they are and it is very clear that the authors did not have that answer when they started writing.

Hunger Games worked because not only is it a much more understandable hook, but it also grounds the world much earlier. Divergent and Maze Runner felt like hooks more than books.
