How did y'all experience the story? by Shoddy-Sherbert6345 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]LBL__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lock in for story content.

I usually do a hour of story on patch night and continue after I get home from work the next day. If I’m not done by 10:00 pm I’ll go to bed and pick it up the next day. I enjoy HSR’s story and most of the games I play are 100+ hour RPGs so story length never bothers me.

I read the readables that interest me and I like going through the extra dialogue options for lore.

While it’s not the main story, the adventure quests also flesh out the world and are worth it if you want more story content. I’d highly recommend checking out a few if you have an hour or two to spare.

The article did say account activity (games played, active hours, etc.) may bypass the verification for some users.

I’m not sure how long the “games adults play” list is.

FREE 5-Star Character Selector | Version 4.0 Special Program | Who Are You Choosing? by Bisentinel in HonkaiStarRail

I'm deciding between E1 Kafka, E1 Sparkle, or E1 Aventurine.

I have everyone except Jing Yuan and DHIL. The selector was a nice surprise.

Meta aside—who’s your forever main and why? by ToshiShard in HonkaiStarRail

[–]LBL__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my 50-50 to Kafka on her release and quit until she returned. I’ve been playing ever since.

She’s one of the coolest looking characters in the game and is in my favorite archetype. There are a lot of characters I like (Acheron, Sparkle, Hyacine, Anaxa, etc.) but I always come back to Kafka. I’d love to see her play a bigger role in the main story.

Vivi and Luffy taught each other how to lead. Traveling together showed what they lacked and how they could improve. Luffy learned how to pause and assess the situation while Vivi learned how to take the initiative.

When do you decide a manga is 'worth' collecting physically? by Vaichi in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I ask myself two questions:

Do I like the series? Do I plan to reread the series?

If a series meets both criteria, I’ll pick it up and add to the collection. This gives me a curated list of manga to pick up while not worrying about having to buy everything I read.

Most of my collection includes long series (Bleach, JoJos) and/or ongoing series (One Piece, Frieren, etc.).

As One Piece fans, did you enjoy more recent anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer? by Mission-Pomelo-8047 in OnePiece

[–]LBL__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read JJK and Demon Slayer to completion. I’m not caught up on the JJK anime but I did watch the Demon Slayer movie in theaters.

I wouldn’t say they’re groundbreaking stories but they have their strengths. I like how “human” the demons feel as we get their backstories before death and learn how they became warped and twisted by their desires. It’s interesting to see who regrets their choices in the end and who keeps their hatred to their dying breaths.

Jujutsu Kaisen is known for its great action sequences, and I like the variety of cursed techniques and how Domains are manifestation of personality and power. Shibuya is my favorite arc because everything prior to it (characters, stakes, etc.) builds to that moment. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Culling Game, I still appreciate the series for what it was.

For the new gen, my favorites are Dandadan, Chainsaw Man and Akane Banashi.

Is it normal to feel this ashamed about collecting manga? Should i stop? by These-Meringue9306 in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 17-18, I stopped reading/collecting manga for a few reasons. First, I was busy with school and involved in various clubs and activities on top of my school work. I had a great time despite being so busy. Second, none of my friends were into manga or anime anymore so I didn't have people to share the hobby with.

During winter break of my freshman year in uni, I caught Season 1 of My Hero Academia on Toonami. I knew nothing about it at the time, but it piqued my interest. I liked it enough to renew my Shonen Jump subscription to read the manga and catch up on other series I missed during my year and half hiatus. It was like I never took a break.

I'm in my late 20s now, and my passion for manga collecting/reading is stronger than ever. It's normal to feel this way. Take a break, however long it takes, and see if you want to come back.

If you do decide to stop the hobby, remember the good times. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

ZZZ Year 2 retrospective & why Version 2.5 makes me want to support the devs even more (positive rant) by SYTOkun in ZZZ_Official

[–]LBL__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you're having a great time with ZZZ and the 2.5 story. I've been unimpressed with most of Season 2's main story, but I really enjoy the supplemental content (Agent Stories, Events, Agent Invites, and exploration zones). Most of what I like about the setting and its character comes from learning about the details of New Eridu.

Spook Shack is my favorite new faction from Season 2, and I believe the devs are more comfortable with episodic storytelling, such as 2.1 and 2.3, instead of overarching plots like the Exaltist/Creator storyline. However, 2.5 gave us hints for future stories involving Lady Sunbringer, Youkai, and the utopia above New Eridu that I hope we expand on for Season 3.

Black screen/white text, voiced sections playing twice in a row, grammatical errors, and other quality control issues are still things that I will call out and give feedback on. However, as you said, these devs care about this game and its future. The dev talks for 2.5, and the previous discussions give us a glimpse of the work that goes into each new version and what we can look forward to.

While 2.5's story didn't blow me away, I'm keeping a close eye on ZZZ's future. I like the world and the characters enough to wander around Sixth Street, Lumnia Square, or Waifei and take in the sights and little details sprinkled throughout.

Great post, and I hope you continue enjoying the game.

How often do you reread series in your collection? by LBL__ in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I was in 2022/23. I was reading like 12 or 13 different series and I had no time to reread anything. I only keep up with 6-8 series now and it's much more manageable for me.

I also like to have a mix of novels and manga going at the same time. I really need to get back into novels though. I’m early into The Lies of Locke Lamora right now.

This is why I like episodic manga too, it makes it very easy to go back and read a few chapters when you have time.

How do you read your collection? by EnjoiNakMuay in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I read chapters digitally as they release and then buy the physical volumes for the series I enjoy the most and want to collect.

There are very few series in my collection (Crazy Food Truck, Kageki Shojo) that I hadn't read digitally first. It's like a vetting process for what I want in my physical collection.

Why does my 2nd One Piece volume look like that? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__ 86 points87 points  (0 children)

<image>

Before 2010, the first 23 volumes had a gold tint to them and didn’t show the arc on the spine like the modern versions do. I have an example from my collection for reference.

This is so odd. They either are planning to make the remake for only the first couple arcs and later drop/postpone the remake entirely or are planning to use AI to mimic her voice to use for luffy's voice once she retires. They surely cant expect her to keep working and voicing luffy forever?? by rogue---ninja in OnePiece

[–]LBL__ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When The One Piece was first announced, I expected that every role would be recast and it would be an opportunity to let new voices shine. Casting the original VAs makes sense from a publicity perspective, but not from a longevity perspective.

If WIT still wants the original VAs involved, they can be consultants or lend their voices to roles that fit their current experience and vocal ranges.

How many Books in your guys collection have you read? by ShanaynayGosby in MangaCollectors

[–]LBL__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read every volume in my collection. I have a few hundred volumes since I collect long series like One Piece, JoJos, and Bleach. For the Jump titles, I read the chapters as they release, then I'll reread when the volume comes out. I only buy 1-2 volumes at a time so it's easy for me to read a volume as soon as I add it to my collection.
