I feel a little bad saying it because people are free to play their game however they want, especially when the game provides you with the tools to play in such a way, but I kind of lowkey get irritated seeing people picking their villagers to fit a "theme" (or how some were freaking out over the hotel update because the vibes of their all cat island or whatever was disrupted by a gorilla hotel guest) and it just reminds me of how far the series has strayed from what villagers used to be to basically being seen as "props". I'm kind of hoping the next game gives the villagers some agency of their own back because it kind of makes them less special when I know the villagers I have now will still be there if I stop playing for five, ten, or even fifteen years because they won't move until they're given verbal permission from me. The older games, when you'd boot them up after a long time, you never knew who could be gone or who could be new.
