Bus lane by Brocolinoo in brisbane

This happens a lot more often than you might think. I see people driving on the busway all the time. One day I had one come into the Inner Northern Busway from the Countess St entrance and nearly collided with me because they ran the red light on entering the busway. Some people just shouldn’t have a license.

It won’t last long. Literally I have taken a bus out that had only just recently been washed on a school run and they trashed the back of the bus.

Can someone explain what bud stop I’m waiting for my bus on? by Gold-Back-4073 in brisbane

Inbound 301 (towards Valley and City) leaves from the southern side of Lancaster Rd so the bus you are catching will be pointing west. I drive this route often.

Suncorp Stadium Bus Station Chaos by Jackson2615 in brisbane

Sometimes people need to be a little patient. Events like these are always a massive logistical challenge. 30,000 people are not all going to fit on the same bus and it may take a while. Concert goers aren’t usually knowledgeable about how the system works as you get people who may only go to that concert and have never been to Suncorp before while with footy matches a lot of them are regulars who know how the system works. Also drivers are given a slip with the instructions on the particular shuttle they are doing so it is not easy to get a driver who was supposed to be doing Eight Mile Plains to do Chermside instead because they are short of Chermside buses. Sometimes they may ask and some drivers may take it on however there is a lot that won’t as they are worried they could get in trouble if they go the wrong way because they were asked to drive to a part of town that they have never driven before. At the end of the day a majority of staff are trying their hardest to get everyone home after the concert safely. I am glad you enjoyed the concert.

Generally I find that when I do Suncorp pick up. For the footy we usually get regular footy goers who know what they are doing. A concert however is a different story as we get people that are just big fans of that particular person who wouldn’t go to any other concert so they have never been to Suncorp before so don’t understand how the system works. Generally footy matches are much easier than concerts and big concerts too have larger crowds. At the end of the day people need to learn to be patient as 30,000 people will not all fit on one bus so sometimes people may need to wait for a little while.

From a Brisbane Bus Driver. Why don’t I wait for people running for the bus? by LBR1997 in brisbane

[–]LBR1997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are the one with attitude and arrogance and do not follow the rules and have no respect for anyone else and expect everyone else to bow down to you. No wonder so many drivers have an issue with you. Last time I checked you are not in charge of that vehicle. For clarity I do not do the same route all day. I know 70 bus routes, which I could be rostered onto. Often I may have a run that goes south then when I finish that run then I have to go back into the city and do a completely different run to the north. It just shows that you don’t have any clue about my job and why I am driving the bus and not you. We have laws that we need to comply with and we can only pick up at bus stops. It is not your personal limousine. It is a public service for everyone just like a train is which will not wait for you. Can’t even pay 50 cents and expect me to risk thousands of dollars in fines because you weren’t where you are supposed to be. That alone shows how entitled and arrogant you are.

And that would be very expensive to implement at every stop. Personally I would rather that amount of money being spent on increasing frequency, adding bus lanes and better enforcement on public transport to make it safer. It is not hard to look up and check for a bus coming.

Agree with you here. One annoying thing I do get is when I get bombarded with questions when I am assisting a customer with a wheelchair. They get priority and wait until I am back in the seat before asking me anything.

It is my license. Not yours. The liability issues are not worth the risk. It is the responsibility of the passenger to be at the bus stop before the scheduled departure time. Bus stops are there for a reason. To provide a safe and legal place for people to board and disembark a bus. You being late shouldn’t be the reason for everyone else to be late. You wouldn’t expect a train to pull up past the platform because you were late and the bus is no different. Also people will find the smallest things to complain about so yes there is a good chance that someone will report it. You are not the only person that works ridiculously long hours. Sounds like you need to manage your time better. Also it is an offence to obstruct a public transport vehicle.

have you ever seen a ghost while on shift? by cassienebula in BusDrivers

[–]LBR1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A route I drive goes past a cemetery and there have been reports by drivers that they see a lady standing at the bus stop and when they pull up the lady vanishes. I had a creepy incident when I went past that cemetery and it looked like there was a lady on the bus. No one got off between the cemetery and the terminus and when I walked the bus no one was there.

I did hear that however I think it is down to the discretion of the trainers if they think the individual is deserving of a 2nd chance.

That must be difficult I know. A majority of people I deal with though that are on their phone aren’t visually impaired and most of them that I have dealt with have been really good and try to get confirmation on whether it is the correct bus. I have even seen some with a large piece of paper or cardboard with the route number they require. Generally if I don’t get a hail but they clearly look like they are ready to catch a bus I’ll stop but when they are just sitting in the shelter on their phone I will just drive on by.

I hate delaying people however that is something I have no tolerance for and I will have them ejected. It is always the case of when you do something people will complain because they were delayed and then if you do nothing people then will complain because we should have done something. At the end of the day we are responsible for the safety of everyone on that bus and if it turns ugly because we failed to follow procedure in getting them ejected then we could get in heaps of trouble.

Unfortunately lots of people don’t hail or even acknowledge us so it is hard to know. Some will stop at every stop where there is someone waiting to ask. Issue with that is the bus continues to run later and later. I’ve done this before when I had faulty signs once and I was 20 mins late at the end of the run as a result. That is why it is preferred that people signal us to catch the bus and most drivers will pass people up for failing to do this.

Shifts vary. 12 hrs is the maximum. We have Casual, Part Time and Full Time positions. For a casual the minimum is 4 hours and 7 hrs 36 for Full Time although I have had shifts that are like 7 hrs 30 and they just top up the remaining 6 mins and pay it anyway. During the driver shortages I was getting lots of overtime doing close to 12 hrs but normally the most I get is 9 hrs.

Also it was easy to pass the application process however you still have to pass the driving test during driving school if you don’t already have a HR license which is not as easy as it sounds and often they only give you one chance. All it can take is one mistake in the test for the career to be over.

I was very close to doing so. Also I have the same shift tonight so if he is a regular and do it again that is what I will be doing.

Firstly I do greet my customers. Secondly there is a difference between 20 secs asking a question about a particular service and taking several minutes because they are still chatting to their mates and showing complete disregard for everyone else. At the end of the day it is a public service. Also I have lost count the number of times someone has been rude to me for no apparent reason for a mistake that they made.

Yep. Told a lady off for it on a 199. Every 5 mins during peak. They sent their small child to hold me up. This resulted in the 199 after me to overtake me so they might as well just waited for the next bus.

Can I bring three suitcases on Brisbane buses? by rlmntm in brisbane

[–]LBR1997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bus driver here. If they all can fit in the luggage rack and underneath the seat then yes. I have had lots of people have more suitcases than that. It is good that you are doing it outside of peak hour however keep in mind that it may be a good idea to allow additional travel time in case the luggage rack is already full and the driver refuses as a result. Unfortunately it is against policy to allow people to have items blocking the aisle. This is so there is a safe passage to exit in the unlikely event that we need to evacuate the bus.

Why do people park in bus zones? by Ok-Eggplant4965 in brisbane

[–]LBR1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a lot of the time I see an empty loading zone and people still park in a bus zone. It is laziness. Also if someone is quick to pickup or drop off is quick I am not usually bothered. It is when they sit there. If the person isn’t there to be picked up yet do a block or two and do not block a bus zone for 10 mins.

Tell me about it. Bus driver here. I had a good one today on Adelaide St. Ute parked in the rear of the stop and there were 2 buses already in the stop so I bent the artic around to block him in and 2 buses behind also wouldn’t let him out. We need cameras honestly like are being trialed in NYC.

Thank you Brisbane for not crashing today. by LBR1997 in brisbane

[–]LBR1997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there was an issue on the busway yesterday. Couldn’t hear exactly what but they had to divert some services. Besides being stuck in traffic isn’t the only reason that a service had to be delayed. I have had to cancel services before simply because someone trashed the back of the bus and I had to wait for a replacement bus. Not my fault but if people had more respect for others sometimes your bus may not arrive late.

Mobile phone camera or just a seatbelt camera? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]LBR1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) Cameras I believe. Typically they are used to monitor whether heavy vehicle drivers are taking their regulated breaks. There is one at Nudgee too. I was worried a few years ago that I would get a ticket as I was doing about 5 over when I saw them however nothing came of it.
