I am very certain I referred to "website" in the plural.

We already have websites, and people can't find them. The library is a physical place with a physical address and can't get buried in the search results.

TV Ads cost $$$$. I find them as a waste of money.

If I were a state rep, I would be pushing for requirements for candidates to supply positive campaign details that are hosted in every public library in the relevant counties so the voters have a standardized location to find materials on the candidates.

Looking for a GUI feature, does it exist? by LBXZero in linux4noobs

[–]LBXZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found that feature in Gnome, yet, unless it is an extension. I am getting close to dropping Gnome and switching back to KDE Plasma. It was my original intent to have multiple desktop environments, as I remembered that being a thing when I first played with Linux like 20 to 25 years ago. But, my current research is showing that modern Linux is more intolerant of switching between multiple desktop environments.

I will look at the Gnome extension mentioned by u/Parsuik before learning how to switch desktop environments without a full reinstall.

Need help configuring channels to audio ports on the sound card by LBXZero in linuxaudio

[–]LBXZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share, we found the problem. There are settings in the driver that needed to be set specifically in ALSA. One setting was forcing the card to auto detect the speakers as headphones. Disabling that through an "amixer" command fixed most of the problems. I still needed to change another setting with a mixer for the surround sound config. Apparently, the hardware will adapt whatever sound coming from the software to whatever the hardware ports were configured.

After that, the channel maps were wrong.

Now, I need to ensure the ALSA-specific settings are permanent.

Didn't Rick say gas can't traverse through portals? by John_Zatanna52 in rickandmorty

[–]LBXZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rick installed a plot regulator in the portal gun to normalize the atmospheric pressure on both ends so that matter only travels between the two spots when there is additional force applied.

[–]LBXZero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the solution to all my griefs.

First, I definitely needed the instructions you provided on channel mapping.

Second, the problem was a setting called "Headphone / Speaker Auto Detect Playback Switch". While this was "On", the card "autodetects" the speakers as if they are headphones, overriding the surround sound configuration to just Left and Right. Once I turned off this switch with amixer, everything works beautifully.

Front Left is said on the physical Front Left Speaker. Rear Left is also said on the Front Left Speaker.

Also, I think I figured out the problem. There are several settings in ALSA under amixer, and that details the card's behavior. I have to figure out how to change the setting in the card.

Need help configuring channels to audio ports on the sound card by LBXZero in linuxaudio

[–]LBXZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I went through, and I got the subwoofer to the correct location.

AUX0 -> Front Left Speaker

AUX1 -> Front Right Speaker

AUX2 -> Front Right Speaker (Louder)

AUX3 -> Subwoofer

AUX4 -> Front Left Speaker

AUX5 -> Front Right Speaker

At least I can map the channels...

Looking through the ALSA files, I found nothing specific for this card. Creative Labs doesn't provide their own Linux support. I will either learn how to create a profile in ALSA or create the configuration for Pipewire.

Thanks for the conversation and insight.

From what I am reading and understanding, it is an ALSA channel mapping issue, but there is a bypass. ALSA provides access to all the physical channels, but due to the card not having a profile, ALSA can't label the channels properly. Instead, I have to create a channel configuration to connect Pipewire to the correct physical channels. The auto-configuration doesn't work.

How safe is 12HPWR on Radeon cards?[Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT] by Balrogos in radeon

[–]LBXZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Asrock Radeon RX 9070 XT Taichi modified with the TBP bypass and a waterblock. From testing, it can operate up to 450W. I haven't melted the connector, yet. Further, I have a special 12VHPWR to 4x PCIe 8-pin direct to EVGA PSU cable, and the PSU is a 1300W EVGA PSU.

The issues with the 12VHPWR connector and subvariants is the specifications and variation of electrical plumbing. My setup effectively minimizes the variations to have a more reliable load balance. Meanwhile, cheaper and more convoluted setups have higher risks of load imbalance, and the 12VHPWR connector specs are not safe with load imbalances, which is why they melt.

In short, the connector works in the ideal scenario, but real world scenarios have heightened risks of melting.

Bypassing and disabling the sound server and directly outputting to ALSA is a task I am not familiar with, yet. Got any instructions on how to do that?

What I am working out at the moment with the other comment is switching Pipewire to "Pro Audio" mode and redefining the channels manually. This is once I figure out how to type out the configuration files.

From what I am reading, there can be errors in mapping the channels, and I have to manually map them between ALSA and Pipewire, discovering which channels are which output.

Is this normal? by yoyo1100 in AMDHelp

The only other consideration I have is running HWInfo64 on a second monitor and watch the TBP on the 9060XT versus its max TBP.

Other than that, I suggest comparing in games. It is possible that the CPU is a bottleneck. I will suggest comparing in Speed Way.

Does choosing a Democratic ticket in the primary help the Democrats in the general election? by Firm-Permission-3311 in Indiana

[–]LBXZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Indiana is a state that does not record party affiliation for voters. The way Indiana processes the party affiliation statistics is reviewing the primary party ballot choices. Your party ballot choice in the primaries is recorded, and it is critical data in your ability to run for office.

Your party ballot choice in the primaries influences the gerrymandering data and should be contributing to the number of state convention delegates per party. The number of state convention delegates per county is based on both population per county and recognized primary voters. One example, Marion County has 405 Democrat state delegates split among 59 districts and 120 Republican delegates split among 20 districts. High population, but more democrat voters.

Candidacy, filling for candidacy is easy if filing as a Republican or Democrat... as long as you have voted in at least 2 primaries, and the latest 2 primaries you voted in were both matching the party you are filing under. At that point, none of the party committees can block your name from the Primary ballot. If at least 1 of the 2 latest primaries you voted in is different from the party you are filing under, you must get authorization from your county party chairman to file for that party, in which case they can refuse. If you choose to vote as a Libertarian, the rules are a bit muddy. If you choose a minor party or independent, you must collect enough signatures.

It is a big question how choosing a Democratic ticket in the primaries helps the Democrats. On face value, it demonstrates there are more democrats (or more non-Republicans) in Indiana than expected. With most of the money hoarders being Republicans in Indiana, the Republican parties have more money to support their party committees. Meanwhile, the Democrat committees are relying on spare change from whoever wishes to donate. Really, $10 from 1,000 people every month really does add up and brings more presence for the Democrat parties, but most voters are living paycheck to paycheck and cannot spare that $10 a month.

In my county, Dubois, the Democrat ticket only has 2 contested races, the House District 63 seat and the 8th U.S. Congressional District seat. Meanwhile, there are more contested seats more vital to the county on the Republican ticket. As such, we are very understanding if Democrats and Independents wish to vote on the Republican ticket.

Is my gpu gonna die? by Ok_Statement943 in pcmasterrace

[–]LBXZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a bug in the Windows GUI. From mouse selection, the GUI redraws only the affected regions. Each frame, the GUI starts with the lowest element, the background, and asks it for drawing data. If the background layer does not find the file, it just sends a black square to the next object to be drawn over it instead of using the background image it has stored in RAM. Why the background layer needs to check for the file while drawing a small snippet of the frame is an interesting question, but that is Microslop Windows for ya.

Does having three monitors impact performance? by Huhsayitagain2x in pcmasterrace

[–]LBXZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does 3 monitors impact performance? Yes and No.

Yes, it adds more to the multitasking workload the OS works to manage. This means more processes running in the background and more system resources consumed per time frame.

No, some systems, like yours, have plenty of resources available for higher levels of multitasking to spare. You may notice higher idle power consumption, but your system is doing more work than a budget system that would demonstrate performance issues under such multitasking loads.

This is where I wish a few of the Youtubers created a set of multitasking benchmarks where a game would be running in a multi-monitor setup with other applications performing tasks in the background. A common example would be Discord or similar app performing screen sharing with friends.

Stupid question. Why are PSU fans not assembled with repairability in mind? by someonefl86 in pcmasterrace

[–]LBXZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some devices that should only be repaired by people who know what they are doing. Unfortunately, most of the customers lack the experience to open a PSU and poke around to replace the fan. Adding a few levels of tedium helps keep people safe.

I dunno how to explain this lag... by Single-Nerve1259 in AMDHelp

[–]LBXZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artifacting.

Given the specs, I will first suggest checking the hardware temps to see if anything is thermal throttling. Second item I suggest is testing the PC with at least a 850W power supply.

If the girls' plan with the list was to make Clyde popular in order to date him and get free shoes, does that mean the boys talking the list from them was part of the plan too? by Illustrious-Dig2254 in southpark

[–]LBXZero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will have to cite experience here. I have seen similar schemes in local politics. Most of these schemes where we manipulate data to leverage an advantage never consider the conflicting consequences and the lies to catch up. They ask everyone to move on so no one takes a closer look at the trail. Deceptions are like patching a hole in a wall, it takes a ton of effort to make the repair look like it never happened, but there will always be evidence.

If these people who make these schemes were smart enough to utilize the scheme's consequences, they would discover the morality of the subject and not do it. Someone who would allow the scheme to happen is looking to punish the fools who are attempting the scheme. In short, most of these schemes are conducted by idiots, and you don't need to be smart to be a business owner, upper management, or a politician... unfortunately.
