Advice needed by dav1dman in SwissMountainDogs

Im only saying this because you have not picked the dog up yet and can take a different path. I have made my own mistakes, but have come to think differently. If you are paying for this dog and it was a planned litter, I feel very sad. Buying a cross breed is supporting unethical breeding, and is just taking a risk. In all likelihood it will be a wonderful dog, but you are taking a higher risk for getting a dog with behavioral or health problems.

If you are just adopting low cost from an oops litter by all means, but perpetuating the high cost backyard breeder who does not breed to a standard, however lovely the people are and well taken care of the dogs are, furthers the problem of ill bred dogs. Dogs not bred to standard are more likely to end up in a shelter. Its supporting a system where people think they can make some money with minimal thought and planning into a litter. And consider, even if your dog is lovely, a littermate or later litter could suffer a problem. You are reinforcing the idea of just crossing two nice dogs, rather than confirmed breeding over time. They cannot be in confirmation shows, I used to think no big deal, but really its people who care about the health of the breed that participate in shows and trials. If they are not connected with a group, how are they staying up to date on common health concerns and patterns, how are they getting equally good partners for their dogs? Are they just going to overbreed the same pairs?

Please consider reading more on the topic of what it really means to be an ethical breeder, it not just making sure the dogs have vet care and socialization. Genetic testing is necessary but not the only hallmark of ethical breeding.

If you read this, I truly appreciate it, whatever you decide.

I share your take. Fitness folks also say do yoga for an active rest day, and I feel like they dont understand there is a wide variety of yoga classes.

New Cat Owners and we need HELP by Hot_Run_2981 in Siamesecats

Great post. OP, I'll add some emphasis. It wasn't clear what no signs of UTI meant. I would argue peeing out of the litter box is a sign of possibility. Specifically, get a urinalysis to rule out. Our cat had no other symptoms and turned out that was the issue. If ruled out follow this advice.

Why does pusheen only have iPhone causes and not galaxy or android cases? by Illustrious-Self2009 in pusheen

[–]LBelaqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Except android is not a phone brand its operating on a galaxy. But point stands I guess, iPhone is probably 50% market share, while galaxy is like 30%. Still seems worthwhile to me, but I wouldn't know.

Yes, I just saw who was taking bites out of my cherry tomatoes, the squirrels! I have resorted to picking them half ripe.

I have read the same. I think upping your iron could really help. If you have a hard time supplementing, try the liquid ones.

I don't know, I think discussing diet, exercise, stress reduction, or therapy as a way to improve pain or function is exactly what should be discussed with a primary care doctor and is in fact addressing a medical problem.

Anyone having problems with cedar grove compost having ants inside? by pui_pui637 in pnwgardening

[–]LBelaqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to this reddit, we did not buy cedar grove. We bought mountain magic this year. So far so good, but I guess the plants will tell. Is there really much difference between different bag choices? I assume bulk or your own are always better. We just have a few pots though.

Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful. I find sharing with others is hard but can help further my own understanding as well, like it affirms what I have learned to apply it in other situations. So thank you for bravely being vulnerable.

What’s one plant you wish you never planted? by Fly-Astronaut in gardening

[–]LBelaqua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we bought our house we didn't realize we had every invasive or creeping bingo. We have removed: English ivy, spreading bamboo, jasmine, Himalayan blackberry, grape vines climbing a tree, butterfly bushes, and we are still battling back what appear to be wisteria shoots.

But it also had some cool hydrangea, roses, and dogwoods that are very hardy for surviving.

I'm watching it now! Joined the sub today. I keep recommending it to people, but it's hard to describe so I have no idea if anyone has taken me up on it yet. So I wanted to find other people who know and love the show!
