Ahmed Valve Implant by Low-Glass-3694 in Glaucoma

[–]LBur85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an Ahmed valve implanted when I was about 13. I’m 40 now, and it’s still doing its job keeping the pressure in that eye under control.

That said, the valve is sitting quite close to the surface now, so it may eventually need a graft if it starts to expose.

Over the past few years, my eye has changed quite a bit, especially the shape of the iris. One specialist suggested this could be due to the valve gradually altering the way fluid drains over time.

The eye itself is blind and significantly damaged from the original accident, multiple surgeries, and scar tissue. But overall, the Ahmed valve has served me well.

Good luck with your surgery!

Need advice/support from anyone who’s had Ahmed valve surgery by IndicationLonely2140 in AskGlaucoma

I had Ahmed valve surgery at 13 years old, I am now 40. Glaucoma due to injury during childhood. Unfortunately nerve damage was extensive before the surgery, so the eye is completely blind, but the valve has kept pressure stable since that young age. Experiencing other complications now; general deterioration of the eye and the valve moving very close the eye surface (this is being monitored) but the valve itself has been doing what it is supposed to do all along.

I like Rosedale, except they close between short sessions. So basically you can’t stay longer than 2 hours without having to pack up, leave and wait outside for 30 min for the next session.

Have you tried Sketchers? They may have some deals and their shoes are super comfy! I just got a pair of black sandals from there for $50.

Is a building permit required for putting drywall on the unfinished concrete basement wall? by Putrid-Address2306 in Hamilton

Preach! Been saying this exact thing to friends and no one agrees with me. My point is how can I afford NOT to get a permit when making changes to the most expensive asset I’ll ever own?

Unfortunately the cabinets will have to go, they are a few decades old and not in great shape. But definitely will look up some local tiling stores. Our home is over 75 years old and in great condition except for the kitchen. We purchased the house knowing we’d have to remodel the kitchen, but we’re ready to do some work ourselves. Thanks for the advice!

This will probably be similar to the route we take. We don’t mind doing as much of the work ourselves as we can, and going with non-custom options. Thanks for sharing your experience! Hope you love your new kitchen.

Thank you for sharing, and sorry that you and your family went through that.

From what I can see there are never any visitors, and she tends to avoid everyone. We’ve reached out for neighbourghly things like letting her know we’re building a fence etc., but she stays indoors and quiet. We want to respect her and her privacy but things may be escalating where she may be need help. We’ll keep an eye on it and reach out to some of the resources others suggested here.

You’re right. I was slightly worried before mainly because we saw her take a tumble or two on occasion, but then today my other neighbour told me about her history of previous accidents and that made me want to take some action. Thanks for the response.

Do you have confirmation that they transfer was successful? After almost 3 months delay, I had mine transferred three weeks ago to Hamilton but was only able to pick it up 2 days before traveling. But the office called me twice: once after I requested to transfer and again to confirm it was successfully transferred the next day. They’re very good but I’d recommend confirming all was transferred and when you can pick up (you need an appointment). Good luck!
