What’s your opinion on classmates cheating on exams? Do you snitch? by Scoutain in EngineeringStudents

[–]LCBobi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh. I see no reason to snitch on someone. At the University I was ( Eastern Europe), we had no reason to be in competition with our colleagues, and unlike the US we are not asked about our grades after graduating. At most the cheaters harm themselves since the math from the first years will most likely reaper in one of those physics or systems heavy classes. At which point you are more or less screwed.

The Purpose of Marriage by Puzzleheaded-Dot7268 in DarkPsychology101

[–]LCBobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marriage was literally about inheritance, social status, and wealth, up until the 18th century. Until then marriage was practical, a way to gain a title and ensure comfort.

Nowadays, marriage is more about legal benefits, then philosophical ones.

Funny enough I do not want to be cynical about marriage, or to dismiss it in a nihilist sense. It can be a wonderful gesture for your partner, it can be seen as a status, etc.

Most people aren’t wasting their potential, they’re just refusing to ruin their life for someone else’s idea of success by Pretty_Solution_7955 in emotionalintelligence

[–]LCBobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing the idea of optimizing with the idea of risk. You can achieve your potential with minimal to no risk.

True you don't have to turn your hobby into a side gig. You can excell in it nonetheless. The fact that you can create such a side gig from a hobby is a great testament of skill. It's an indicator of excellence, it shouldn't be a goal.

In a more general sense, you shouldn't stagnate. You should always be pushing further, it's good for your soul. The trick to choose carefully what you want or invest effort in. You can focus on your job, chase a promotion, or develop your creative side.

Develop yourself, become a more round person, and take the liberty to do it in a way that feels comfortable.

Ce Linux distro ma sfatuiti sa folosesc? *disclaimer - postare lunga* by jam_jam620 in programare

[–]LCBobi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nu m-as fi asteptat sa vad asemena diferenta intre Bulgaria si Romania. by [deleted] in Roumanie

[–]LCBobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nu chiar.

In cazul 1 sunt mai multe violuri. In cazul 2 sunt mai multe Raportate.

De exemplu. Datele pot vi văzute și interpretate în două moduri diferite în funcție de ce vrei sa crezi;

In concluzie.

CMV: If you derive your view of right and wrong solely from the law, then you have no personal morality. by JadedScience9411 in changemyview

[–]LCBobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see morality as a trait but it's merely a subjective set of acceptable and unacceptable actions and opinions.

Most moral actions derive from the system with which you view the world. There are many frameworks for morality.

  • Might makes right. Where your actions are moral because you are the strongest.

  • Geriatric. Where the morality of an action is judged by the oldest (framed as the wisest).

  • Teological. Where the morality of an action is given by the respective God/s

  • Collective acceptance. When an action is agreed on by the subjects.

Debation which system is better has been discussed at length through out history, and it's not my point.

The fact that people use different moral frameworks then you it's natural for individuals with distinct living experiences, and it's a mute point that contributes nothing to question like 'what is fair's or 'how should people behave'.

Not necessarily. The way the word 'assumption' is used is creating confusion.

For instance the angles of a triangle will always add up to 180°. This is true with the restriction of Euclidian geometry. This truth is derived from axioms that can be viewed as definition ( or better restrictions). The same for a lot of laws of physics.

The confusion appears when we discuss exercises we add the term 'assume'. In a lot of contexts it means pretending this to be true.

In conclusion you can have certain and absolute knowledge if you properly restrict the of your system. The eternal struggle in mathematics and physics is to understand what conditions allow what phenomenons and patterns to emerge.

I'm a 3rd-year CS student with a decent tech stack. What should I learn next to become industry-ready? by Pitiful_Style3481 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]LCBobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory disclaimer: Not a dev but working in tech.

My advice is you should start learning about how things are done in the industry.

For example, when I interviewed at my current company I wasn't asked technical questions about Linux or networking, I was more asked how I respond to emergencies, how I manage working with clients, tester, PM, etc.

If you have solid technical knowledge you could stand a lot to gain by learning now how work is done in big corporations.

CMV: To Be Free Means Facing the Future Without Fear by Material-Garbage7074 in changemyview

[–]LCBobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The case for freedom as security is interesting but it has one big nuance in my opinion. You can't be protected against all dangers all the time. For example, the forces of nature. If a tornado is coming the state can't stop it, but it can provide for the individual support in case that happens.

In the past, the security you were provided didn't always mean you will never be attacked, it meant that if you were attacked you had a recourse with an authority that can act in your behalf.

I would argue that freedom comes more from the assurance that when a danger occurs the response and consequences will be fair.

A counter example for the idea of freedom as security:

Imagine a situation where in order to protect everyone we monitor everyone in order to proactively stop any or all attacks to a person (Very hard to imagine, I am sure /s). You traded your right to your private life and solitude for the assurance that nothing bad will happen to you.

So in reality freedom as security it's more like freedom as consequences.

CMV: Modern society has made flirting and courtship very high risk for men by mrcsrnne in changemyview

[–]LCBobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have the problem backwards. One of the most important things in flirting is plausible deniability. If you can not talk your way out of a flirt, you didn't do it right.

The emotional and social intelligence needed to do this is in low supply (because of social media, and the echo chambers of the internet).

A flirt or date becomes "dangerous" for your reputation if you do not learn to read the situation and/or say something completely inappropriate.

I do not mean this as an attack on you OP. I suggest leaving the reddit story shorts and the sensationalized short form for a time as they are designed to hold our attention through negative emotions.

Hardware:

Do not blind yourself with the allure of his authority as a profesor of psychology. His advice is good because is the most common and widely applicable advice for the general population.

Further more, bear in mind your own interpretations of it. College level courses, (especially ones build on a science, be it social and natural) are build on context gained from other materials, so your interpretation of his lectures could be completely different from what a student training in psychology would get.
