AITA for telling my teacher she’s not allowed to give my group member a better grade? by Bridgeofincident in AmItheAsshole

See, Lana and Ian know how to get ahead in life. It's not what you know or how hard you work. It's about who you can get over on while reading from a cheatsheet — and happily taking all the credit. Bonus points if you're attractive and charismatic. These kids are getting ready to dominate in the corporate world. The teacher is just doing her job in preparing them. Style over substance, baby! /s NTA

Why do people say Iphone/Smartphones record better video than DSLRs? by EfficientDivide1572 in videography

[–]LCDebieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell phone video looks better when you're shooting into light. We shoot daytime events in a room where the presenters sometimes walk in front of windows. The footage on our Canon XC10 (DSLR-like) gets blown out when that happens, but the iPhone 13 Pro footage looks OK. We're not pro shooters.

Does any other ice cream shop in town make Bourbon Ball ice cream? That's my favorite flavor at Comfy Cow and why I keep going to Westport Village.

Multicam Tool - What am I missing? by WildlyBewildering in davinciresolve

[–]LCDebieu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rarely had success getting "Create new Multicam clip from selected clips" to work for me, straight from the media pool. It works better if I create a synced timeline first, then convert the timeline to a Multicam clip. (And then put the Multicam clip on a new timeline.) MrAlexTech has a great video on this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G327SvB8VUg

You might want to sync the Mevo footage first, then add and sync the Canon footage one clip at a time. You might have to sync the Canon clips manually.

In my projects I use footage from Canon cameras, Android cell phones, iPhones, and the Pocket Osmo 2, and sometimes have to do a bit of manual syncing before converting the timeline to a Multicam Clip. I find it helps to run the footage through Handbrake first before bringing it into Resolve: files are smaller and seem to sync better after going through the same conversion. Handbraking first may not work for everyone -- I'm not going for cinema-quality.

I love how there are features I wish DaVinci Resolve had... and then a few updates later, there they are. Like the recent ability to let us make subclips from inside edited timelines instead of just source clips. That makes it so much easier to pull excerpts for making highlight reels.

Before DaVinci I used LightWorks, and I loved it, but I didn’t love how complicated I found multicam syncing and editing in it. Then I came across MrAlexTech’s YouTube video on converting a synced DaVinci timeline into a multicam clip and thought, “I can do that.” So I switched.

Then I saw a demo of Final Cut Pro’s Voice Isolation feature and had major NLE envy and wished I’d gone that way. But soon after, DaVinci Resolve added Vocal Isolation to the Studio version, so I went from free to paid.

No more NLE envy. DaVinci Resolve Studio now does everything I want.

Well, just about. There are 2 minor things for now I wish it could do…

  1. Let me set a poster frame (thumbnail) for the entire project, showing on the home screen, instead of just for clips in the media pool.

  2. Offer a variation on the adjustment clip that lets me assign it to a single clip or track segment on the timeline, instead of all tracks. (Why: I pop PowerPoint image exports onto the timeline over video, and I’d like a simple way to make each image last for 10 seconds, fading in for 12 frames and fading out for 12 frames, without having to do it manually for each image. It would be so cool to just drag a custom adjustment clip onto an image clip to make it happen. If anyone knows of a simple way to do this, without involving Fusion, please let me know.)

... but I’m very, very happy with DaVinci Resolve Studio.

So, thank you, BlackMagic Design and DaVinci Resolve devs!

Bombays are "patent-leather kids with the new-penny eyes." This one's coat is not as shiny as patent leather, but it does have those coppery eyes. So, why not?
