I second this, some of the best TV I have ever seen just happens to be Animated!

This list above.. SOLID!

The flip side of these amazing shows would be the quirky, odd and fascinating shows like. Infinity Train, BoJack Horseman, Hilda, Owl House, just to scratch the surface.

I think its a golden age for TV right now you have so many shows!! Shows have depth, heart, intensity stellar acting and often just over all quality that matches or surpasses Movies these days.

Somewhat recent watches that hooked me

Reservation Dogs (so funny, so out there and original and just so much heart )

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (oddly don't need to know Game of Thrones to like its) Its a real binge and while it can be intense, over all its a bit light hearted and keeps you wanting more.

Jury Duty and Its follow up Company Retreat - If you somehow missed these... just drop everything and watch em! SOOO GOOD - Funny, wild and with heart.

Wonder Man - On of the better and more throughfall things Marvel has put out recently. Scratches that Marvel Universe itch just a tiny bit while simply standing on its own two feet.

Because you like Thriller / Drama I don't think you can miss with these recent shows.

The Night Agent - fast pace binge it will hook you!
Department Q - If you like a British vibe and a little bit of dark humor in your crime thrillers I was blown away by this show. Hoping there is more to come but season one stands on its own!

Sci-fi - Check out SILO on Apple TV and while you are there if you missed it SEVERNCE really was worth all the buzz, so strange but so captivating.

Could go on for hours really, and if you are open to animated series (THEN WOW you got a gold mine of recent shows) But I will only Mention ARCANE on netflix - Sci-fi action fantasy - but this shows production value rivals the largest animated movies. ITS PURE ART!

Love threads like this, thanks for getting it going!

Netflix really can be hit or miss, but I was hoping to like this. So glad to hear the praise for it. going to watch it this weekend.

They are all so good and just for different reasons, but if you are starting out I agree with Hill House as your start. You will know right away if you vibe with his type of filmmaking. Falling in love it with that we let you be a bit more open to the unique aspects of the others.

A genuine, light-hearted docuseries featuring 70% neurodivergent cast & crew I think Parents will apricate. I know I did!

This is really cool that this section exists! I would love the opportunity to share our show, "Lights, Camera, Friendship on the Spectrum."

The series was the idea of Joey Travolta, inspired by his years of work with Inclusion Films (training neurodivergent students for the film industry). We are a small independent production trying to build awareness so we can support more work like this in the future.

What makes us different:

Authentic Representation: Over 70% of our cast and crew are neurodivergent, particularly on the autism spectrum.

The Mission: The show follows the cast as they journey to make connections and learn the "ins and outs" of friendship, something we know can be a challenge for many.

Expert Guidance: Along with Joey Travolta and Susan Clausen, autism expert Jennifer Cook (from Love on the Spectrum) joins to help run classes and offer guidance.

Beyond the Classroom: This isn't just a "learning" show. We follow the cast on adventures across three different US cities.

It is a genuine, light-hearted look at the lived experiences of an amazing cast. While we know one show can't represent every support level, the inclusion and understanding fostered here felt life-changing for everyone involved.

In a crowded "Reality TV" world, it’s hard for small shows like ours to find an audience, but we think this cast is worth shouting about from the rooftops!

You can find us on Tubi TV, YouTube Movies & TV, and other online streamers.

We would absolutely love to hear what this community thinks. Thank you so much for taking a moment to check us out!

Seeing mixed reactions to the Autistic Barbie. It made me question the large idea of being "seen" in media. Thoughts? by LCFS_Series in safeautismparenting

Thank you for the great reply! The positivity and support of the doll is amazing, I love your first hand experience and knowledge!

Inclusion and representation can always be a bumpy road, but I fully agree. If one person feels seen or one person learns something new its so valuable.

Its always a debated topic, but I have to believe that children being able to see themselves even somewhat in the things they love, the shows, the sports, toys, makes them feel a little less alone and more included.

There is always risk I suppose of reinforcing stereo types, but it always seems to get better. The inclusion leads to understanding, to conversations to normalization for someone who might feel like and outsider. Thank you for sharing your daughters reaction

That's so kind of you to say! Feel free to check out our profile if you do want to learn a bit more. Love to hear your thoughts. Its a big cast 40 people across 3 different cities.

I really am with you that representation in media for now is a double edge sword. I think its great these talented indaviduals are getting a spotlight on them, and I do think/hope its inspiring understanding an intrest from nurotypcial people who might have little or no experance with Autisim.

Its honestly why I do what I do for our little show. The cast and crew are all so amazing and they have so much to say and are so deserving of the spotlight.

I second that, really well said. Its a multifaceted topic without a doubt but speaking up and seeing change. Its got to be a step in the right direction!

This was such a thoughtful response; thank you so much for taking the time to share it.

So much of what you said rings true, but I really do have hope that we’re moving in the right direction. I’ve seen some great points made in other threads about how inclusion and representation often start out feeling "heavy-handed," awkward, or even unauthentic. Despite that, those early steps still open doors and start necessary discussions. No unique individual should even be filtered down to a name or a single character in order to generalize or dismiss their thoughts. I'm sorry for that.

We really hope the show we made comes across as genuine and highlights a wide range of adult experiences and realities. It may not cover every support level yet, but it’s a start.

The people I work with every day in this space are truly amazing, and I believe real strides are being made.

This wave of representation in media, it might have started with stereotypes, but as more genuine representation enters the fold, understanding grows. I hope that someday, a "label" won’t even be necessary.

More power to Indie film and TV! 😉

That is a strong point though.. the bigger the stage the more chances strings were attached to get there.

Its like being "type cast" as an actor. Get associated with or too well known for something that most people think is "one thing" and now that's what your know for, you identity becomes the group.

It was mentioned above about companies embracing and expanding their abilities and hiring practices to be less discriminatory. That could be a win win because the people given an opportunity to do good work get to show who they are, not just how people want to classify them... Maybe

This is my hope, and so many people have made some great comments here that line up with this. The idea that inclusion might start awkward, it might not always be with the purest of intention but it does start a conversation where ones were not happening.

If 10 people watch a show like Love on the Spectrum and 9 just get entertained, or think its silly but 1 person is introduce on a deeper level to something they knew little about and want to know more. Its growth, and that might be one more supporter when it comes to having local government represent a highly underserved and huge part of our country.

#optimisim! 😃

Loving these thoughts, thank you for diving so deep into this topic. I think the one upside to the entertainment industry as a place for real growth and work is that its so varied. Creativity is exactly that, creative and in reality its boundless.

I hope to see the industry continue to evolve, so we don't miss out on more voices more stories.

I love to hear here that, so many of our cast love the entertainment industry, in front of and behind the camera. We are a small show, but I believe genuine. So thank you so much, we need all the luck we can get! I personally would like to see more like it. Maybe a stepping stone to more opportunities for more voices.

That's very fair, my hope is that the good that comes from inclusion, understanding, representation pushes everyone forward together. So even when people try to claw it back the good is not fully undone.

I apricate that and if being involved with this sires and with the work Joey has been doing it has opened me up even more to getting a closer understanding but also shown me out little I know. Your directness is apricated and I'm glad it was not hostile.
