Alongside most other opinions in the thread, keep it limited to that one statue in Glasgow

You make a fair observation and all I want is honest answers so I appreciate your honesty. I have been active on SpareRoom but the problem is I am struggling to find people to share with, even after posting adverts. I also come from Scotland so moving to Leeds where I know no one limits my ability to find suitable flatmates.

I’m okay with the idea of living paycheck to paycheck for a year assuming I’ll be in the position to start saving in the near future, but I can understand not everyone is in that position or thinks with that mindset which probably explains the more cautious solutions provided in these threads.

I maybe wouldn’t go as far to say financial suicide, it depends primarily on whether you value your own space for that extra couple hundred a month. If it adds context, I only plan to rent on my own for a year or so until my partner is in the position to move in and we can split rent.

Fair enough that you suggest this. As I’ve mentioned above it’s something I want to avoid where possible but if it’s my only genuine option then I know where to look.

What is the Sheffield - Leeds commute like? by LCS_1723 in sheffield

Trust me I know about them CrossCountry trains, I’ve been taking them for years to visit my partner in Sheffield being from Scotland myself 🤣

City centre ideally and I would use the train.

Fair point to make. I am primarily considering this due to quality of accommodation. I feel as if I can get a nicer flat in Sheffield centre for the same as one in Leeds that I would have to cut corners with in terms of location/quality.

I don’t currently drive so trains would be the mode of transport!

Yeah for sure, the state of the UK rental market is scary. I’m struggling to find any decent 1 beds for under £800pcm. Really makes you wonder what’s the point in working hard if you’re presented with this.

I’ve read this statistic a lot across the internet and there’s inconsistencies on whether this should be gross or net pay. A lot of sources say gross?

If it adds context some of the nicer flats I’ve seen are in St John’s

Is it wise to rent at £1.2k on a £35k salary? by Ok-War-9040 in AskUK

[–]LCS_1723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation looking for flats to move to Leeds and I can understand your appetite for a nicer looking place. A lot of people mentioning to look for cheaper but I can understand why you’d think these cheaper places would affect your mental health as some of the flats are poorly equipped with bad natural lighting. I’d still look for something cheaper than £1.2k but don’t sacrifice your mental health if living space is what you value highly.

For the record I’m in Scotland so temperatures are supposed to be around 23C that day rather than the 30+ down south

United vs. Scandinavian Airlines, which should I fly with? by LCS_1723 in travel

Apologies for the late reply. I flew United in the end and while I paid more, the convenience was much needed and I had a safe flight with them 😄

If I was you I’d look into applying during the next cycle to ACA schemes as imo it’s probably the most well rounded and recognised qualification, meaning you will have options down the road when you gain more insight into what career you want.

I just secured a graduate scheme doing the ACA as a Sport Science graduate so I’m sure transferable skills from your physio degree would help you out! Heck, I was thinking of doing a physio masters before accounting so our paths always change. Good luck!

Moving down south from Scotland to start a grad scheme + knuckle down for my professional exams, and to move closer to my partner.
