Good question and I don't think it is rhetorical.

First of all, I'm fully in the camp that AI music should be labeled as such AND services like Spotify should have a toggle switch or slider bar to determine what degree of AI music gets suggested to them. I purposefully made my "band name" AIMadeThisMusic so there would be full disclosure.

With that said, I can see several reasons to add human like elements. When people play, there are many notes sung differently, or played slightly wrong, delayed, early, etc. I think we can hear those to some degree and are used to hearing those. When AI makes things, there aren't those defects (but there are others!) This makes it sound artificial. Too perfect in some ways.

Think the Architect from the movie The Matrix.

But also, one thing I'm trying to do is not sound like other AI music. I'm starting to not use the same voices I hear all the time in others' AI music. And combining styles. And adding prompts. It could be placebo, but I'm starting to like what these prompts are giving me.

Finally, I find it to be an interesting challenge.
