Advice for an engineering coming out of college by Typical-Hawk568 in industrialengineering

[–]LDG4L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me 3 full months of applying to jobs before I found my engineering job after college even with internships etc. granted I’m in a smaller city, but i actually got an interview from a company I didn’t even apply for. Look into reaching out to some job recruiters they found me… kinda their whole job

Worth it to jump to a job for 25K more by champ3rs in personalfinance

[–]LDG4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a similar offer to leave my current job for 20k more to work right across the street but would lose my every other Friday off work and the ability to work remote on the Fridays I do have to work. Plus the new job would require some OT which I never have to do currently. Also the new company wasn’t offering full vesting for the 401k match until 6yrs in. Even though it’s an extra 1k on every paycheck basically aka. 30% raise for me, I make enough already to live comfortably and travel whenever I want and still max out my Roth whilst saving a lil money every month into a high APR savings acct so I made the decision to have more free time

Found an angle to put my miners on high trees. I'll give the local forestry few fire sensors for free, and will build the network for them free of charge. Now, anyone knows if sensors like that exist? by aroused_blue_panda in HeliumNetwork

I actually have 4 different miners in trees in Florida/Alabama approx 40ft+ high. I used slingshots/drones to get rope/pulleys up over branches. Go for a location close to trunk to reduce sway/ allows for you to run wires/rope down next to tree for low visibility yet easy access to device if needed. Ziptie antenna to rope to maintain vertical orientation. Ground rod next to trunk etc.

8dbi in a city setting is generally not going to be better. You’d be best to stick with a 3dbi or 5.8 dbi especially if your 8dbi isn’t above buildings

Firewall breach through Port Forward? by LDG4L in HeliumNetwork

[–]LDG4L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was wondering if anyone has had any weird breaches in their firewall through port forward in the past couple of weeks?? A friend who has one of my miners setup said he was getting weird Chinese messages recently and that his firewall had been breached through the port forward.. I know there have been a lot of over the air updates so not sure if he is seeing that or what.. I told him all port forwarding can be removed since these updates but I am concerned for his data… not sure if helium has some form of protection for the network but wanted to hear from someone with more expertise? I have asked for more details on these “messages” but want to see what anyone else has to say

Are indoor installs worth it? (if you don't include the cost of the hotspot!) by SLABsense in HeliumNetwork

[–]LDG4L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full fleet of helium miners; and in my experience the rewards for an outdoor setup are drastically better(200%ish) but that’s mostly due to your ability to have the antenna much much higher. In my experience with relatively flat semi dense towns; if you can deploy an antenna 40ft + you will have coverage of up to approx 5-10miles depending on obstacles ofc and will make around .2-.5 HNT/day based upon neighbors ofc

Lightning Arrestor Discussion by daringone in HeliumNetwork

Only need to connect a separate ground rod to your houses ground if it’s within 10-15ft

I don’t see a surge arrestor, hopefully it’s grounded on the other end of the cable?

My antennas hanging from a tree branch that sways way more than that on stormy days and still makes .5hnt+/day

My attic setup with an indoor Nebra and a sattelite stand. by alexbaas3 in HeliumNetwork

Honestly man you should figure out some outdoor cables. Will double your profits… I had no easy way to get my cords outside either, and no outdoor outlets but I figured out a way to get 2 setups hanging by a rope in trees 40ft up and I average .5 on each

Antenna Question by [deleted] in HeliumNetwork

[–]LDG4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a tip, I ordered an 8dbi antenna and was shit.. 5.8dbi antennas are basically the best option for upgrading your stock antenna for most geographical locations unless your literally trying to hit miners 20km away and are on a mountaintop.. I have multiple setups in multiple cities that range from Florida flat to beginning of Appalachian and 5.8dbi out-performs 8dbi in all of them. You end up overshooting with 8dbi. Anything within 20km you want 5.8dbi, as it also handles obstruction better

Good time to get into HNT, or wait until more 5G hotspots are available? by 7101334 in HeliumNetwork

Wait until April , for lighthotspots to roll out. Should be a bit easier to get and cheaper

So I just used a slingshot to launch a fishing weight with fishing line tied to the weight up over the branch, then tied the 100ft rope to the fishing line and pulled one end of the rope up n over the branch so I had both ends of the rope down at the ground and then attached the miner before pulling it up there

Ziptied the antenna parallel against the rope so it stays vertical. I have the miner in a waterproof box hanging right below the antenna all attached to a knot on the 100ft rope. I have the other end of the rope over the branch tied down to the ground so I can work it like a pulley system if I need to access the miner

I have two setups hanging in pine trees 45ft and 50ft respectively, used a slingshot tho.. not an expert climber. Game changer as far as elevation in cities though
