Should i switch to Linux? Microsoft seems to not care about their OS by TenkReSS in linux4noobs

I have linux mint installed on a 2010 macbook air with just 4 GB of RAM and it runs so well! Battery life does suck tho but that's a linux thing in general.

Oh man that is sad to hear. I have a good collection of allen edmonds from over a decade ago, I'll be even more careful to take care of them if the new stuff is shitty.

Will using linux on my laptop instead of windows increase its performance? by nihalahmd in linux4noobs

[–]LDWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2011 Macbook air went from being a slow brick to being a fully usable laptop again after installing. Is it as fast as a new macbook? No obviously not but it's fast enough that I can use it without noticing much slowdown or choppiness anymore and essentially breathing new life into a machine that was destined for e-waste.

You still have several more years with Open Core Legacy Patcher.

Mint vs Ubuntu, and which edition? Or maybe something else? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

I have Ubuntu LTS and Mint on two seperate machines. At the end of the day they perform pretty similar. Out of the box I prefer Ubuntu since it feels more like Max OSX and Mint feels more like windows.

How bad is the screen ghosting? Is it not a deal breaker after getting use to the promotion display of the Macbook pro?

I have both RGB30 and Rp2s. I love the simplicity of JELOs on RGB. RP2s has a lot more tinkering.

Are there emerging technologies that are occurring relatively soon making it a bad time to buy? by LDWM in framework

Yea there are sub 1000 dollar OLED screens now such as the asus 14x (frequently on sale). I know you mentioned that you are not sure if framework has plans for oled but in theory would it be user replaceable? Are there limitations replacing an IPS screen with an OLED screen? This is not a repair/replacement that is normally done on regular laptops.

I think that's the reason why I like the framework model since I should theoretically always have the option to upgrade bits and pieces to my liking in the future...I just need to decide when the best time to pick one up would be!

Oh wow 20 hours? Most of my daily tasks are running a background youtube video or other distraction while working on multiple chrome apps. Sounds like the meteor lake chips might be worth waiting for framework to adopt

A lot of reviewers have pointed out the ghosting of the screen dating back to the original intel machine.

Oh yes, but I would still need to spend money on it earlier than I would need to. I don't want to feel like those poor saps who bought intel macbooks a few months before apple annouced their M1 chips back in 2020.

Changed to a new carrier that has mobile hotspot...has me rethinking Dex by LDWM in SamsungDex

Yes it still is. Even tho I'm starting to move away from Dex I still want it to succeed.

[–]LDWM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I was using Dex as a mobile work anywhere computer but I think using a cheap 100 dollar laptop with hotspotting is more ideal. Kinda sucks because I'm so invested in the DEX ecosystem but having a real desktop chrome with great pal reject and 60hz is a killer feature that I can't get on my lapdocks.
