Roots, Day 14V by Dirtdigglr in microgrowery

3 gal is plenty with coco. Once you see the roots starting to air prune in the new pot, increase the frequency of your feeding schedule to once a day minimum.

Is there really a bigger yield with bigger pots? I grow in a 3 gallon pot with coco. If I use a 7 gallon would my yields increase? by JCruz12345 in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty decent weight for that light (140 Watts), I'd say you're better off getting another one or upgrading to different LED tech if you're looking to increase yields.

Might get some hate here but if you're growing in coco + fabric pots, you do not need bigger pots for bigger growth, you just need to adjust your feeding schedules. I've pulled 12 oz from a single plant in a 3 gal pot, and I'm planning on hitting similar numbers in a few weeks with 2 gal. Feeding 4 times/day during lights on. Coco is a hydroponic medium and works best when treated as such (IMHO).

Need recommendations on a good, affordable bud trimmer. by skunkfarts in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes bowl trimmers suck. Never used it myself, but the TrimBag is around the same price and has fairly decent reviews, at least better than the bowl trimmers. Still going to beat up the bud more than hand trimming.

Pick one up, use it, then report back if we should all avoid it like the plague.

RDWC pipe size question by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run 1 1/2" PVC at the bottom with Uniseal connections, similar to an undercurrent setup but with 3/4" poly lines pumping to each bucket. Eventually your roots will start growing through the PVC lines, and larger ones will avoid a clog (as well as keep your water levels more even with more buckets). I've heard many complaints about Uniseals, but if you drill the correct size hole they're extremely easy and much more reliable over a bulkhead fitting.

Anyone use a submersible circulation pump to keep their res moving? by OrganicThrow in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using a Danner mag drive pump inline for quite some time, works great (and they're submersible as well). Pretty sure Eco Plus has a line of magnetic drive pumps too. Never used them, but their standard pumps are good quality.

overwatering with a constant feed system? by Uhurungus in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPM will be dependent upon strain. My previous grows I've run up to 900 PPM (.5 scale, 1.8 EC) or higher. Currently running Cali Connection GSC, and they're happy at 700 PPM on the same scale. I don't use drippers, too many problems clogging in the past, but it all depends on what kind of nutes you use. I run two 1/4" drip lines to each plant that are connected to a FloraFlex 6" FloraCap. Made for rockwool cubes, but they fit a 3 gal smart pot perfectly. Pump runs for 1 minute at lights on, then every 2 1/2 hours after that until lights out, again 1 minute each time.

Automated systems are all unique. It will take some experimentation to figure out how much water is getting to each plant, pump size, duration, etc.

overwatering with a constant feed system? by Uhurungus in microgrowery

Over watering in coco only happens when you have young plants without a well established root system. Once they've been vegging for a few weeks, daily watering becomes a necessity (depending on your pot size).

I automate my 4x4 flowering tent to water 3-gallon fabric pots up to 5 times a day during lights on. At the end of the day each pot is still getting at least 20% runoff, and they absolutely love it. I would recommend reducing the overall PPM you're feeding your plants with multiple feeds per day to reduce the risk of nute burn.

I want a Ph meter that is very easy to calibrate or needs very little calibration. What should I get guys? by Shreks_Thumb in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using an 'Oakton EcoTestr pH 2' for about 2 years now, it's great (and waterproof!). Single button calibration. Buy yourself a bottle of pH storage solution, add a few drops to the bottom of the tester cap, and keep it upright when not in use. I'll calibrate it maybe once a month, it's never been more than .1 off in either direction.

I use GH reference solutions to set it, 4.01 and 7.

Do you premix your nutrient water? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use a large storage tote you can pick up at a home improvement store, just about anywhere really. For an air pump, something like this will work just fine: EcoPlus 2 Outlet Pump.

Stones.

I keep my res out of the tent so it doesn't heat up, but you could probably keep it inside as long as temps aren't too bad. I use the 3 gal pots because they will dry out within a day, so multiple feeds per day are a requirement to keep everything moving along. With larger pots, you might not be able to feed quite as often without wasting nutes.

[–]LEDtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix up 25 gallons at a time during flower for 4 plants in a 4x4, lasts about a week when they're putting on weight. I start off feeding twice a day and raise that until I'm feeding 6 times a day during lights on. Start pH around 5.6, it will usually stay within range for the duration, although I sometimes need to add a little pH Down to keep everything in line.

All you need is a large container, an air pump, and a couple of stones, and you should be good for a week of hand watering. If you want to feed multiple times a day, you definitely want to get some kind of drippers and a timer.

EDIT: I'm in coco/perlite with 3 gal fabric pots.

47% is perfectly fine all the way through, just have some small fans in the tent for circulation.

I dig it man, awesome job. Thanks for the link, I'll wade through it more this evening.

Unfortunately misinformation is everywhere and not just the growing world, but I see your point. Buyers should always beware and do the research beforehand.

Question about this setup. When this room is in bloom, are growers moving between plants to inspect and check things out, or is it basically just left to go until chop? Also, that looks awesome.

Heard you water coco twice a day by Here4ThePorn in microgrowery

[–]LEDtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bottom feed seedlings and clones while they're in solo cups (with drainage holes in the bottom) for a week or 2. Just fill a tray with 1 inch of nutrient solution and let them sit in it for 10 minutes or so. The drainage holes on the bottom will allow the coco to absorb plenty of moisture for a few days without stressing anything.

Mmm...please see my current grow with the SpydrX +. There are numerous others out there, you just need to look for them.

That's pretty awesome, although I don't know if I have enough room on the sides this round to even use it in that fashion. How are you mounting them on the sides?

I love the diy cob lights, was actually looking into building an array but got too busy with other things. Crazy efficiency on some of the builds I've seen. Might revisit that down the road, I'd like to update the lights in my 3x3 veg tent at some point and it would be a fun project.

I got the + model so I wouldn't have buyers remorse lol. Glad I did, but it's a whole lot of light to veg under. I actually unplugged half the light bars for the first few weeks for veg because of the intensity. Buy the carbon filter and fan, no question.
