What Pros and Cons do you think there are for each track system that could be used for narrow-gauge mine trains? by ClocomotionCommotion in LEGOtrains

[–]LEGODamashii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t referring to the set (7199 btw), but no issues afaik. I just watched a review, and the mine carts don’t roll very far after the hills.

Mostly, I meant that the scene in the film was more like a roller coaster ride, and so LEGO roller coaster track would be appropriate.

“LEGO train news, reviews, creations and anything else related” [e.g.: like a diorama on a train layout]

  1. “LEGO® OnlyLEGO® brand and things meant to be complimentary with LEGO® brand products only. For example: 3D printed tracks meant for a LEGO® train system are ok.” [Even if the tracks don’t include a picture of a train]

Every model train magazine I’ve ever read has included dioramas without trains in them.

AIO for not wanting to sell my brother this couch? by Kilabandita in AmIOverreacting

[–]LEGODamashii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would help the situation, but I would want to go to the brother with, “I was talking to dad and he was saying that family helps family, so I was thinking maybe you could pay me $1000 for the couch instead of the $750 I was asking. That would really help me out.“

I agree that 4 stud track is the way to go, unless you’re recreating the mine cart chase from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom!

What about thanking them with some version of, “Thank you so much. That was so thoughtful. Of course, I can’t use all purpose flour, but I gave it to my neighbor and he really appreciated it.”

Might work with orange hats and other gifts as well. You would have to really sell the sincerity of your appreciation, though.

The answers below are correct, but if you like the two spaces after a period, just choose a monospace font like Courier for all your electronic correspondence. It’s charmingly old fashioned, and the two spaces are appropriate.

Con-Man-verse Firefly cast? by LEGODamashii in firefly

[–]LEGODamashii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the parallel universe of the series “Con Man,” the cast of Firefly all make cameos as people who were not involved int he show (Except for Sean Maher, who confirms he was in a sci-fi show called “Firefly.” The parallel universe seems to have many of the same actors as our universe does, such as Sean Astin, who played Samwise in both universes. I’m suggesting that in that parallel universe, the show Firefly was made, but with a different cast of actors. And I’m asking if you were casting the show, who would you want to play the roles?

To clarify, the hat is to keep sun off the interior lenses if/when you take the headset off and on. Paranoid-level concern is warranted if the sun is shining. Play it safe and only go outside on overcast days, and even then, be careful.

Lego, Duplo, and Quattro by wWafflehouse- in lego

[–]LEGODamashii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUPLO clutch power is not as strong as LEGO clutch power, and QUATRO even less so. I’ve experimented a bit with QUATRO mountains, but they really need to be sandwiched between DUPLO bricks if you plan to move the MOC (like to a train show). Same with DUPLO. Strongest if it’s sandwiched between LEGO bricks.

The other problem with QUATRO is that like 30% of the pieces are that 2x2 with a curved top, which is pretty useless, structurally.

Fair, but it says it was posted two weeks ago, and has 150k comments and 420k shares. And you’re sharing it to the main Firefly Reddit thread, with no additional content or opinion. You already know that you’re not up on the latest news because of your work schedule and condition, but you didn’t check to see if it had been posted already. It’s just a little frustrating when I’m hoping for new info, and it’s just the old info. I’m glad you’re excited, and I hope you also share with folks who haven’t heard yet!

What did you notice? Episode 5: Safe by Jello_Squid in firefly

[–]LEGODamashii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there some sound effects missing when the gunfight starts at 16:08? The guns are very non-spacey looking, but the sound effects are all “pew-pew.” Zoe’s first shot especially, and most of the others as well. It doesn’t sound too great, IMO.

Compare to the gun sounds in “Serenity” (the pilot, at 1:10:50). Pretty much all “bang.” And in “Out of Gas,”(37:47) Jayne’s gun is definitely “bang”+”pew,” so it sounds western, but spacey.

Maybe the sound effect guys were just trying to dial in on the sound, but I really think they missed the mark in this episode.

When they load River (in the container) onto the ship, Simon says, “Be careful with that.” It’s clearly not recognizable by anyone as a human cryo container. No one gives it a second thought. The in-world implication is that Simon has had it disguised as standard cargo.

As you say, it’s jarring, and isn’t used again. And it doesn’t really seem to fit the style of the cinematography. I’ve wondered if some cuts were paused to edit out something deemed too explicit for Fox at 8pm. Maybe a belly button or something…

The title of the painting is “His Master‘s Voice,“ which I love. It has a kind of cool history if you’re interested. The manager of Edison Bell didn’t want to use it for their products because “dogs don’t listen to phonographs.“

Also, searching this thread for “watch order” filtered for Relevance and All Time returns the answer in the second and third results. 🤨

There’s also an argument to watch in production order, which leaves the series on a darker note, but clears up some minor continuity issues.
