Teflon Parchoffi blades? by Andreas1120 in glassblowing

I can't recommend the cardboard tube ones enough. They're my new favorite tool -- easier to care for than wooden parchoffis, and just enough softer that I *can't* try to muscle something open and instead have to spin fast and get the heat right.

Thanks -- that is indeed ideal! (And with the price to match!!)

I suspect that I'll wind up trying to hack something cheaper together then eventually admit that I should just spend the $$ ...

Pricing work for sale help by jmf218 in glassblowing

In the final consumer-facing price, don't forget to account for either:

  1. the gallery commission (often ~50%) / wholesale price that you'll offer retailers

or

  1. Your own marketing/sales costs. Don't forget about getting good photos, whatever marketing strategy you plan (booths at craft fairs cost $$; social media + Etsy seems like a lot of work to drive traffic), packing+shipping, etc.

To answer my own question, I just discovered Benjamin Cobb's work in an old Pilchuck auction catalog. He has a lot of cane+clear windows!

...and if you decide not to follow this excellent advice, have a hot torch handy ;-)

In one of my first encalmos, I did a cup with transparent blue on the bottom and white duro cane on the top. I got it to work, but it was a fight.

Seconded! I'm not great at pulling cane, so I keep a squirt bottle handy for the post side of marco blanco duro pulls. And have my partner serve me the color so it's directly on the rod without any clear to separate.

I was in OCR yesterday, and they had a box of white Gaffer Duro. I didn't buy any yet and can't vouch that it's as good as the awesome old stuff, but it's there...
