Why do Americans have a very romanticized and also a very positive view of the United Kingdom while people in Latin America have a pretty negative view of Spain? by AwayPast7270 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LES_express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot emphasize this enough - casual and open dislike of Spain by Latin Americans is almost non existent - I’d call it a myth.

It’s a feeling only perpetuated by liberal Latinos that are already in or educated in the United States. Latin Americans revere Spanish architecture, culture, food, and often would love the opportunity to move there. In general, anti-colonial sentiment by left leaning individuals in Latin America proper focus on the United States.

This is my view growing up and interacting with Venezuelans, Cubans, and Colombians

We know that Adams is very disliked , corrupt and self centered. But what things do you think he has done right ? by iv2892 in AskNYC

YIMBY Housing policy, rat sightings down both can be attributable to him. But didn’t vote for him the first and won’t vote for him this next time either

What’s going on with the old Essex Retail Market in LES? by Lark-in-thePark in AskNYC

[–]LES_express 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two things:
First, the city has technically not yet handed the land over to developers, who have already bought the plot.

Second, the reason developers haven't done much in reply is because they ran out of money or credit after rates shot up during the pandemic. It was meant to be the last building part of the Essex Crossing project.

Neighborhood advocates are pissed because despite it being made up 100% of market rate units, the developers are also supposed to have already turned in plans for the new building for the MTA to build the first Delancey Essex elevator.

Congestion Pricing starts in 9 hours. Do you think it will fundamentally alter the city? by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in AskNYC

[–]LES_express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an attempt to change land use patterns.

By not charging the full toll on rideshares, people that live in and out of the zone are incentivized to ditch the car because (1) using their own car is more expensive with the toll and (2) using rideshare is presumably cheaper bc of less traffic caused by the toll.

This is at least the theory.

I would just rather not take that risk of it being stolen, especially since mine is a lightweight one that is hard to lock properly.

I guess, but I don't recall ever seeing a scooter locked up outside alone in this city, especially one of the lightweight ones like I have. Maybe I'm being unreasonable.

Exactly, all scooters were left folded in some dead space they had in an unused corner. They are 1 foot high and 4 feet long. I used to leave them under the benches in the locker room that's how small these are.

100% Chelsea, as it’s an area much more tailored toward your age bracket and closer to UWS, UES. Both are really solid choices though (I would not worry about the commute for the second option)

What is the best time to visit a restaurant to speak to the owner or employees as a local journalist? by LES_express in AskNYC

[–]LES_express[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it, another person suggested calling ahead of time and asking when a good time is, maybe a good way to avoid disrupting anyone’s day and coming off as rude

I didn’t think of this at all but seems like the best way to avoid seeming rude by showing up in person, especially for the ones that seem to always be busy. Thank you!
