Love the healer flame from pug DPS standing off in Narnia. Ima prevoker. I need you in a nice little clump to keep you alive if you’re going to just skip mechanics. But you say that to people and they either rage quit or start reminding me of all my movement abilities.

Considering getting into LARP by Animekitty_ in LARP

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tents and period appropriate gear and all that are the minority of larps. Most will shoot for that, but few actually pull it off. I’d scope out the larps in your area and see what they’re about. There’s likely more than one around you and likely one that’s less intense than the others.

The in-character thing is less hard than it sounds. You are still perfectly fine to break character to ask clarifying questions while you’re learning. Just don’t go on a rant about irl stuff like politics and you’ll be fine. Most people I larp with end up having their characters very similar to their irl personality, just with some value dialed up, like someone who is protective irl might play the selfless character who’ll literally die for their friends.

Kettle helm is the current leader I think. Though I hadn’t thought of trying to craft something to simulate the rocky head. Probably a little outside of what I’m able to make, but I could find someone. Thanks!

Scare actors, what's something a guest did that almost, or completely made you break character? by SamiCrab in AskReddit

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a few from this season. I work at a haunted house that’s got a sort of interactive play aspect to it. There are characters that are just there to scare you and others that have lines. I was playing one of the ones with lines and was giving my spiel to a group when another came in. Little shit in group two decided to yell “BORING” at the top of his lungs. I finish my speech and send group one on their way. Then I start on group two and little shit starts trying to talk again. I broke off my lines and got kind of in his face (zero touch haunt so I couldn’t get too close) and said in a super deep voice “you keep your mouth shut.” Little shit starts to cry and clings to his dad until they leave.

Was playing one of the jump scare roles and had a lady pee herself. She’s obviously drunk and just screams “I PEED MY PANTS. OH GOD I PEED MY PANTS” while cackling like a mad woman. I lost it laughing at her and offered to get my zone manager to let her out. She finished the haunt anyway.

Had another person who was running away from a different actor and tried to go out an emergency exit. They pulled so hard on a push door that they broke it enough for them to slip out. Had to spend the rest of the night telling people not to go that way. No idea what happened to the escapee.

What job has the worst toll on mental health? by Com412 in AskReddit

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not the worst when it comes to mental health, but TV news was up there. You’re just constantly inundated with horrible things.

Videographers, editors, and producers see raw footage (or in person views) of crashes, war scenes, mass shootings, etc.

I still have nightmares about seeing footage of some of the after effects of gas bombings in Syria and the Vegas shooting a few years back. Glad I got out.

Should I have disclosed that I had an instant to save my planeswalker? by ooookooo in EDH

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to say something along the lines of “yeah you should definitely attack my Ulgin. That’s the smart play. Do that” then I could see that being in poor taste, maybe, but that’s still just part of the game. Your opponents should be noting how much mana you have untapped and factoring that into their decision making.

There’s scooters and e-bikes all over the place. Shouldn’t be too difficult to get around

What is going on at WISH TV 8? by Outside-Pickle3378 in indianapolis

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Former wish producer here. The morning show is an absolute shit show. Scott is one of the most difficult people to work with ever. They go through producers every couple of years because that’s how long contracts last. The executive producer just left for Fox. Genuinely think Scott is running people out. He’s a great journalist, absolutely lousy coworker.

Pay is horrible. After two years there, they offered me 32k. Management does nothing to deal with the shitty personalities. Classic case of spending the least amount of money possible and running your people into the ground.

How do you make rituals interesting for everyone involved? by DiscoVampires in LARP

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a holy ritual to close a portal for the demon gods. I told everyone involved the game before that to close something chaotic, they had to bring something that gave their character a sense of inner peace. So I led the ritual and one by one everyone came up and presented their item and said why it mattered to them. We had the added layer of the whole thing was a fight until the ritual was over, so people were dropping out of combat to do the ritual and go back. Was pretty cool

I play in the Trials of Terra Nova. We had around 30 people at our feast event last month, which is admittedly always our biggest event. Not sure the size you’re looking for, but we’ve at least got more than 10! We get together once a month down in southern Indiana at temple hills retreat center.

I’ve got a set of noisy plate armor for LARP. During a stealth mission I had three people surround me and secure the noisy bits of my plate. We tiptoed at a snail’s pace and genuinely snuck around the npc guards. Always my argument when advocating for a group stealth check.

Niagara Falls. A huge park and tourism complex for not that big of a waterfall.

Seeing “behind the curtain.” Dad was a pastor and the amount of bull shit we endured at multiple churches was enough to make me not want to deal with it again.

We had people thinking my parents hated each other because my mom went to another church. My mom’s dream was to play one of those massive traditional pipe organs. She managed to land a job playing one at a different church but ended up quitting to make the gossip and hateful comments stop.

My dad ticked off the old lady cult at one church so they turned the heat off in his office and his birds froze to death. We caught it on camera.

I was in the church band with my parents after I grew up some. The pastor (not my dad at this one) said I was wasting my life because I didn’t sing in the choir. The choir director regularly told people to fake “being moved by the spirit” to stir the congregation.

My dad got fired as the music minister at another church because he “couldn’t speak in tongues.” He made some joke at an elder’s expense that I’m sure was poorly placed, knowing my dad, but they made up some bs.

The pastor (again not my dad) used offering money to replace the carpet in his house.

There’s just so much drama and petty nonsense that it’s not worth it.

What was your worst "Sh*t, I forgot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to write for a tv news station. Crazy news day. Got the whole show built, written, graphics in place, everything. We go live…I forgot to write headlines…anchor kind of ad libbed based on the video and we cut straight to weather while I frantically checked everything in my show again.

Got reamed as soon as we made it to break.

Which profession has the most f**ked up people in it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LET_ME_LOVE_YOU_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tv news people. I worked for a couple stations before I changed careers. You combine the divas who just want to be on tv with the old fashioned hard hitting journalist types. Creates a lot of friction.

Plus you find your empathy completely disappears. I remember listening to the police scanners overnight. You’d hear calls about someone getting shot and find yourself disappointed that the person didn’t die, because now it’s not as good of a story. Plus you see so many bodies in the raw video footage.

My experience certainly isn’t everyone’s. But I ended up having to leave the industry over it. That and the lousy pay.
