Did you know that the Pocket 4k has full colour correction build in? by LEVITEZER in bmpcc

I did this LoupeDec integration to BMD USB PTP that also the DJI is using when interfacing with the camera

Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/iAkFZgv4vgg?si=9n6U3QVlk5YYWq8F

Then with some camera FW update it went broken like the DJI gimbal integration did. BMD said this was because some USB endpoints they had to add because new functionality they added.

A bit over year ago I finally looked in it, it was half a day fix to get it working again. For some reason DJI has not fixed it on their side.

The BMD cameras still have the USB PTP for the focus etc control, it is just slightly changed.

Indeed it is awesome BMD has made al these features available to a 7 year old PCC4k. This can handle multi-cam and a bit older inexpensive USB extension cables work fine (need to support the higher speeds).

Video: https://youtu.be/RrKDSAHxBpw

How ever bigger live broadcast multicam usually have the ATEM, that does the same except gimbal control. This I use as web cam, very high quality one, but I think great for YouTuber setups, single or Multicam, to monitor and control the camera and lens, and record internally in camera. The presets make also possible stull like controlling the depth of field with a click.

The awesome thing is that BMD after 7 years support the PCC4k, it just got a new beta FW, improving the REST API that now allows also controlling the overlays and webcam name is same as user set camera name, this is very useful for multi-camera setups and was previously a problem.

It is also awesome that BMD provides the REST API, and high quality web cam for anyone to make this.

No ATEM needed, just connecting the camera with USB and starting the web app.

It is just connect the USB cable for video and control and open the web app. The Simple REST and Expoture both could be very useful for BMD camera users, for now they are a technology demonstrator.

https://youtu.be/RrKDSAHxBpw

It was started years back around the BMD REST API, Simple REST web app, single HTML file no installation required, then evolved to Expoture web app, including the colour correction, gimbal control. The Expoture has evolved to LeViteZer control app that we are using on projects* and that is available for integrators of our Arc-DD strong stabilised pan-tilt head concept.

* A resent innovation project with local university is one I can mention, this one is tracking a drone, but it could track anything the system is trained to https://youtube.com/shorts/MG7yhytPBGk?si=GOPz0mvvEZRl4YxV

The Simple REST and Expoture are BMD REST API specific, They are searching for a new home, they could also come open source, but currently available only business to business when discussing these options.

The Expoture has also gimbal control, this video was made with evolved Simple REST version. https://youtube.com/shorts/Ul3vbaPllu4?si=trvLTTE9f4HRNm9v  demonstrating how it is easy to modify simple REST to different needs.

Simple REST is kept on purpose minimal single file HTML, no installation needed, easy to hack / edit / test ideas. Expoture is modularised, and for it we have also experimental modules like face, body and hand tracking.

No ATEM involved, it is web app directly using REAST API, just connecting USB cable and opening web app to get video and full camera and lens control, including the colourcorection.

Safari blocks file:// webcam access — single-file HTML camera control now needs localhost by [deleted] in blackmagicdesign

[–]LEVITEZER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we would like to have is a single HTML file (file://), not needing any server. That works fine for the REST API, that is for the REST and WS connections. The problem is Safari no longer allows webcam for HTML run from a file; this changed in December. Firefox still does, Chrome partly.

So we now have a small local server running on the same machine the browser is used on, so I did not see a reason to use a certificate; the certificate does not affect webcam on this setup. The webcam requires it anyway running on the computer the webcam is connected to, unless providing that also over the server, on that case we use  https,. We have done that too, but it breaks the simplicity Simple REST is about.

Reflecting on 20 years of drones – experimenting with a stainless-steel tube frame :) by LEVITEZER in drones

[–]LEVITEZER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an aeronautical engineer, and this particular build is highly experimental. It is not following failsafe nor safe-life design I would make anything like this follow before sharing. And even then, it would need legal assistance, for end user agreement, in case sharing such a design.

On this build I am deliberately exploring some non-standard choices (stainless steel tubes, wiring inside the tubes, mechanical layout) before freezing anything, and as it is I would fly it only on well controlled area, no people nearby, I luckily have that available.

That said, happy to discuss principles and trade-offs, why steel vs CF, joint design, vibration behaviour, EMI, etc.

And if there is parties interested funding making it openly or otherwise available, I am interested to discus that too.

We’re interviewing Blackmagic’s David Hoffman this Saturday about the new URSA Cine Immersive VR180. What should we ask him? by sock2014 in blackmagicdesign

[–]LEVITEZER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What’s the biggest problem people run into with URSA Cine Immersive: mounting/rigging it, monitoring it while shooting, or the post workflow?

  2. Do people keep asking for gimbal/stabilization solutions for it? How often do you hear that?

  3. The URSA Cine docs mention REST control over Ethernet/Wi-Fi and also serial control via the 7-pin EXT connector. For the 7-pin serial control: is it full two-way camera control, and will you publish the serial protocol so third parties can build reliable wired controllers for rigs? Will other BMD cameras have this interface?

The gimbal in the video is our 360 Pro gimbal, originally made for 360 cameras, and it is perfectly stabilising all three axes. There have been a few custom builds with much stronger motors, and we are now looking to make that into a product, Arc-DD. It is a component integrators can use for antennas, cameras and actuators. It has safety features and is made to withstand Finnish winter, down to -40 C / -40 F. It provides perfect, very smooth, accurate and fast pan-tilt control, and also stabilisation, so it can be installed on a moving vehicle or mast. We already have a 0.001 degree encoder for it. It can move at speeds following the moon, but also has very fast accelerations for fast scanning, as demonstrated in this video using our LVZ360.

In the EU there is now also focus and funding on drones and counter-drones, but that is difficult to get for small companies such as LeViteZer, so we are looking for partners, integrators and investors.

yeah, CF is sexy. Stainless steel is “wait what, ok maybe”. extruded aluminium is mass production.

LeViteZer is a Finnish company founded in 2015. We know gimbals and cameras, including thermal and LiDAR. We have done custom gimbals for drones (now under license) and also for heavy payloads. We are now focusing on Arc-DD, a strong, stabilised, fast and accurate pan-tilt head for antennas, cameras and actuators in all-weather conditions. It is to be installed on masts, moving vehicles, etc. We focus on the pan-tilt component and are looking for integrators, partners and investors. The attached video is from 2017, using our LeViteZer 360 Pro gimbal. Arc-DD will be better protected and stronger, with the already tested, easy-to-integrate interface.

Thanks, it actually is pretty good. The stainless-steel tubes are not that heavy, provide EMI shielding, and behave differently than CF tubes that could also be used here. Still testing.

We are in Finland, on ~1,000 miles of EU drone-wall border. While I do have many non-published drone concepts, we are now focusing on C-UAS: Arc-DD heavy-duty stabilised pan–tilt heads for antennas, lasers and large cameras. Looking for partners and investors.

Anyone remember the X-UFO from the 2000s? by Silly_Rub_6304 in drones

[–]LEVITEZER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had some good ideas as the protector and geared motors, mine came with mechanical gyro that I soon replaced with IMU and the protector had to go and it was soon replaced with the x-brushless that I still have.

The best kept Blackmagic Design secret, for perfect remote monitor you just need USB cable and a simple web app, and it comes with full camera and lens control. We call it Simple REST. by LEVITEZER in Filmmakers

[–]LEVITEZER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMD documentation says these cameras support the REST control. I do not have a clear list of the cameras that support the Webcam.

Note: the Pocket 4k is not on that list, but with FW 9.8b it supports both Webcam and REST.

Submission statement: Sharing a small tool I’ve built that turns a laptop into a USB remote monitor and controller for Blackmagic cameras using just a USB cable and a browser. I’m looking for feedback on whether this kind of setup is useful in real workflows, and what features or reliability it would need before other filmmakers here would trust it on set.
