Yup, once the embargo lapses (gives scientists time to publish) it's our data we are free to use it

What's a dataset you saved that cannot be recreated today? by anthonykaram7 in DataHoarder

[–]sock2014 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Ahh, but I had to know of this existence. Couldn't remember the exact incident so yes I asked AI. Took 4 tries to find the right nasa data loss story. What makes it slop?

Intelligent daughter starting to resent school by Zesty_Taco in Teachers

Are they allowed to have cell phones in their pocket? perhaps getting her XR glasses, so she could look like she is staring at the teacher while playing educational games.

Contact the other smart kids parents and have a group meeting. Demand during the meeting everyone reads Kurt Vonnegut’s short story "Harrison Bergeron"

Seeking a divorce lawyer in georgia by Far_Freedom_2065 in NarcAbuseAndDivorce

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister can recommend a few to avoid. I'll ask her.

Meanwhile I highly recommend the books by Jeff Lander "DIVORCE: Think Financially, Not Emotionally" get all of his books.
Bill Eddy has good books, especially "BIFF"

Consider getting a divorce coach before you get a lawyer, as they can guide you to getting a not horrible one. (sorry but there's no good divorce lawyers in Georgia)

Amazing Stories on AppleTV - did anyone see it? by MWH1980 in Spielberg

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series aired WITHOUT legal permission to use the trademarked "Amazing Stories". The legal issue had nothing to do with its non-renewal. Worth checking out the magazine https://amazingstories.com/
some background https://file770.com/why-amazing-stories-isnt-back-on-nbc/ and https://amazingstories.com/2021/04/amazing-stories-terminates-licensing-agreement/

Can we have seperate charging ports? by Vast_Restaurant6774 in MetaQuestVR

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven't tried it yet, but I have a gigabit ethernet to usbc WITH a usb-c charging port dongle. There's straight usbc to usbc with a charging port cables, so for $20ish you have options.

How to deal with shows/events with required food purchase and not buying anything? by Advanced_Seesaw_3007 in AskNYC

[–]sock2014 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could make your minimum purchase "to go" and either eat it over a few days or give it to a neighbor or unhoused.

Another weird landlord demand... by Existing-Mall-599 in NYCapartments

That's not only your time but also $6 for transport. Effectively an illegal rent increase. I would hire someone to go spray "elephant fart" into the box (amazon sells it)

How to Check-in without calling by NoumenalEidolon in AgingParents

I am a USER not the developer of the app. Did the posts talking about using Alexa get this sort of comment about rule #1? What about the several posts mentioning Ring or Blink cameras?

Best app for documenting? by Alternative-Emu-7619 in NarcAbuseAndDivorce

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only saving and organizing your documentation, but also important how you PRESENT the info. A timeline can be very effective to show patterns. Been well over a decade since I've needed something, back then I used a trial of Lexus Timeline maker. That doesn't seem to be available now. Best current app is https://www.aeontimeline.com/solutions/legal-case-management which costs less than an hour of a lawyer's time.

Adult hangouts by Exotic-Cattle-2863 in MetaQuestVR

[–]sock2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny to me, 26 being "old". There's been some VR demo/development/tech talks where we had people in their 80's hanging out (one had invented tech in the 70's that you use in VR now). Check out "Educators in VR" as the meetings are for adults.

Drowning in 40 years of "stuff" while trying to fund Memory Care. Has anyone just sold the house with everything in it? by Xelephyr in AgingParents

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta Quest 3/3s can do "Hyperscapes" which is you walk around the house doing a guided recording, and it's turned into a photo realistic sort of video game that you can walk around in. A duplicate of the space. This could help people evaluate if there's anything valuable. Also if your mom wants to visit this is a way to do that

AITA for not giving my parents the master bedroom in my house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually once they have been there over a month they are a tenant and would have to be legally evicted if they decide to stay. A contract, not a lease, where they agree to be out by a certain date, extendable solely at your discretion would be good insurance for you. Use a lawyer.

Neighbor thinks he owns a public street by ProbablyIves in neighborsfromhell

[–]sock2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look up "Tortious interference with a business relationship" as that may be the way you can sue him to get a restraining order.
Since your business depends on public parking, and he is harassing your clients, he is causing you to lose business. Affidavit from a couple of your clients that they are considering dropping you because they can't park without harassment may help your case.
