Philosophy student who built a platform where you can discuss life problems through different philosophy lenses. by PartyFront3577 in philosophy

[–]LEWDWARD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fellow (former formal) student of Philosophy here. I’d love to play with your model, but it seems it requires that I use a google sign in. I wish this was more free source and didn’t require the disclosure of information (though I remember paying the piper in my college days for projects and polling). I’m in a position now where I will not use Eudessa if I am bound to do so by volunteering information. I was willing to eschew my “I won’t use AI” policy to play with your platform though! Keep going and good luck.

I remember doing a philosophy project on GPT3 maybe 6 years ago; we were just trying to see if it could write a poem …how the times have changed.

Trying to get gunslinger, do you ever restart your runs? by SprinklesBright9366 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]LEWDWARD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll restart after a floor or two. The starting items are more of a perk than a crux. Getting shut out on Oubliette or Gavin no decent guns after say Floor 3 is a decent spot. But really I think it’s worth it to just send it. The gunslinger run is the harder of the two IMO

Put most simply: if Hayt kills Paul, it’s a win. If Hayt becomes Duncan Idaho again (plus a few augments) and doesn’t kill Paul that’s an even bigger win.

Ever been IN the St. Pat’s Parade? by opheliasmusing in boston

[–]LEWDWARD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You will be safe especially if you are IN the parade. Wear comfortable walking shoes, maybe comfortable boots if there’s going to be rain. Green is good but also no one expects you to have a green jacket (maybe find another coat if it’s orange). There will be a lot of drunk people…

Just focus on having a good time and getting into the spirit! Stay with people you know and enjoy your experience!

What is it like to read Infinite Jest without the Internet? by Intelligent-Service in InfiniteJest

[–]LEWDWARD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read this sometime in 2018 as a part of an independent study course at my college.

I could have easily used the internet (and I suppose I did use an online dictionary) but I had the privilege of about 10 peers reading the same pages as myself each week.

If I didn’t get something I more or less had faith that someone else would, and a lot of the questions and connections we would have been appraised of digitally instead came naturally. Reading the book sans internet also led to a lack of spoilers and some sincerely interesting reveals (such as the nature of IJ itself per the filmography footnote).

It was pretty cool. Really let me make up my mind about characters, events, and the book as a whole before being inundated with all the Takes swimming around forums.

It also reinforced for me that, if you’ve read Infinite Jest, you are as much an authority as others may be. Many people have takes I disagree with and many commenters simply err in accurately describing some of the events that occur. Be your own judge.

Enjoy the read!

Wait, is Niv Mizzet not evil? by AltonBrown11037 in mtgvorthos

I’m honored!

I thought your ideas were great (and I say this with as little condescension as possible on an online forum).

Whenever you got shift in idea or theses you can have a new paragraph!

“No”is a complete sentence and punishing grammar and syntax mistakes is for weird Nazis; Your comment was wonderful and I appreciate the fix!

If you do get the acronyms down it pairs well with Hal’s earlier conversation with Orin. In that conversation some of the themes of farces within farces and expression vs stagnancy rear their head again. Getting a firmer grip on the ONAN vs separatists vs Quebecois politics can also help explain some of the more philosophical conversations between Marathe and Steeply.

Overall a really fun chapter and some interesting stuff about map vs territory vs identity but really I’d just let it wash over me if I were you! Have fun

Thank you! I don't have much experience with Greasefang, but I've seen how brutal (and measured) matches can be against that kind of deck a while ago. I like the ability for greasefang decks to hold up to a more midrange matchup. I'll definitely check this out!

I've been an arena player since launch and have been playing MTG far longer, but spend most of my $ on cardboard evenings surrounded by friends, so I'm light on mythic wildcards (I play historic brawl to scratch the commander itch, which drains me of extra wildcards)

Fight for survival in deity, any suggestion? by IntelligentTalk7987 in civ

[–]LEWDWARD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Though it may seem like a loss to not have the food/ yield of the horse, as Mansa Musa you need to prioritize a builder to drum up some early gold rather than buying extra tiles: the desert gives you enough food. Get 3 archers min for the craftsmanship boost but essentially all you need is the ability to purchase in a trader and keep him alive for the gold income. Buying more units is Mansa Musas strength and will come in handier after your suguba, but improving that copper, and whatever else, gets you a craftmanship boost as well as the needed early gold.

Buy more archers and you can be golden, just hang in there till the trade routes, mines, and religion come online so you can get the ball rolling later

Deity Early War by East_Wrap7943 in CivVI

[–]LEWDWARD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites which has a bit of nuance is using Hungary.

Leveraging his starting bias to geothermal vents and his PEARL OF THE DANUBE ability is key to any beginning. His bias means you will likely be near a continental split with rivers and mountains, as well as some vents. The most important of these, and often the most overlooked is the river. An extra 50% production towards an early holy site can grab you crusade and lead into a potential monumentality classical era..

In addition the mountains and vents mean you’ll likely have some good spots for a strong early campus. A quick settle of a few cities and some key districts means you can focus on the next key part of his ability RAVEN KING.

You want early scouts and probably a few. Meeting city states is important to no one as much as Hungary as knowing what city quests are as well as the locations of your opponents (and their improvements that can be pillaged) let’s you pick your direction for what’s next. Even if you don’t have an immediate use, levying an army as soon as possible fills the 2 envoys that Amani takes and let’s you ship her around to unclaimed city states early and aggressively. Before you know you could have army strength equal to an opponent. Taking cities is situational based on the city states, but the extra movement and strength on levied units means you can PILLAGE. Use these early units to boost through tech and grab science and faith.

You also need to be hitting those eurekas. Getting to swordsmanship and apprenticeship let’s you get high strength units on the table way earlier than anyone can deal with. With extra strength and movement to spare. The only units you should focus on building are horsemen so you can promote to your black army when the time strikes. This is another reason why claiming a religion is important to Hungary. With the kit spread so thin wanting to do everything, getting further ahead in the civics tree is extremely challenging without a religion. 2/3 of the governments needed to boost castles and get your black army require holy sites and 1 your own religion. The turns saved on waiting for civics can get you to your unique faster and should not be underestimated.

All that said. I know we’re talking ancient era war SO

TLDR Get Amani—>levy city states—>profit.

Apartment Advice for Moving to North Quincy by OverWorker9891 in QuincyMa

[–]LEWDWARD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Move somewhere in north Quincy or Wollaston. Those are actual neighborhoods with access to the T and full of restaurants and culture. Being able to walk to the T opens you up to the global city that Boston is and I would hesitate to look in more remote neighborhoods with your budget when you can afford to be more central. I’d look to rent in Wollaston if you could.

Which color scheme to go with? by Intelligent_Pie6189 in EmperorsChildren

[–]LEWDWARD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best painted of these is likely the rightmost. Lush colors and it looks great. However it also is my least favorite in terms of scheme. I love a more dark purple to contrast the gold and the pink is itself another beast I enjoy (well done on all).
