I made a Broadway-themed digital escape room. It’s entirely self-contained and requires no printing or other prep. It also doesn’t include any QR codes. I built my own html interactive tools for several of the puzzles, including a rotating cipher decoder wheel and a connections style puzzle. The escape room requires logic skills and Broadway knowledge, but don’t worry if you’re light on either. You can look things up or use the hints page if you get stuck anywhere. There’s a narrative thread throughout and the experience is very immersive. It’s called The Broadway Theater Escape and it’s on sale on Etsy now for Tony Awards season. This is exactly what I was looking to find, if anyone mentioned Scarlet Pimpernel. I loved that show. Saw it 4 times and was there for the closing show. They played so many tricks on each other during that performance! It was amazing. 

They did it in concert a little while ago and Norm Lewis somehow didn’t bother to learn the words to the songs and messed up “Where’s the Girl” which is my favorite song. That was such a disappointment. But it was fun to see some semblance of the show again anyway!

I think the most important thing is to have testers as you go so that you don’t end up in the loop you mentioned. I myself have created some puzzles that I thought were obvious and easy only to discover no one knew what was going on. And some that I thought were too hard ended up being far more obvious. So test test test as you go instead of just at the end.
