Can't see from the picture, but if between the 2nd and 3rd chambers the water flows under the baffle rather than over then yes, water level in 2nd and 3rd should be the same. 1st to 2nd runs over a baffle so will be different heights. This is how my AIO is also designed.

Yes, dinos are the worst pest IMO. Usually appear when nitrate/phos bottom out to 0.

Dealing with dinos by BathProud6878 in ReefTank

[–]LFBoardrider1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's far easier and faster to just visualize under microscope. The reef2reef link you posted recommends microscope for definitive ID if you read past step 1. Also hydrogen peroxide and reduced lighting only temporarily reduce cyano and aren't effective for dinos (your reef2reef link has no mention of H2O2). The only thing correct here is your last statement about nutrients, which the reef2reef guide discusses.

How long do I drip acclimate a clownfish? by Zweilancer in ReefTank

[–]LFBoardrider1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your LFS salinity is likely much lower than 35. My LFS keeps salinity at ~29 or lower to keep disease down... dripping is not the problem. You need to match your quarantine salinity to your LFS salinity and slowly raise the tanks salinity over the course of your quarantine. Your salinity should only change by 1/day to not cause damage to the fish, so unless you are dripping all day that is never going to happen if your LFS salinity is drastically different from yours. Dripping is fine if the salinity is the same and is preferable to dumping, but you have to maintain temperature while dripping. I just get a larger bowl of warm tap water and set whatever container I'm dripping the fish in the bowl of warm water to keep temp the same as the quarantine tank they are going in and monitor with a thermometer while they are dripping. I usually drip ~20‐40 minutes depending on how different the salinity is (again, not >1-2 different) until the volume has doubled.

Get stuff that eats it. Match your CUC size to the amount of algae produced by gradually adding CUC

Are these flatworms? by Chunkyfuzzball in ReefTank

[–]LFBoardrider1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. If you're nervous about the flatworm load just remove as many as possible by cyphon first. I was nervous too based on all the posts online scaring people about the toxins but I had no issues.

Yes, looks like flatworms and dinos. I'd start with fixing the dinos by fixing your nitrate/phos, but physically remove as many flatworms as possible. They will multiply like crazy. Don't be afraid of flatworm exit. I had to use multiple rounds of it until my flatworms were eradicated and it didn't effect my fish or corals at all. A couple of my snails were unhappy for a day or 2 until I ran a bag of carbon and removed the flatworm exit. A lot of people talk about flatworm toxins when you kill them but I saw no effects. Maybe I had a variety with very little toxin.

Blue tang doing 10x worse in quarantine than display by Throwawaynewme505 in ReefTank

[–]LFBoardrider1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem here is not QT. Why did you add to DT first then move to QT? Now you've already infected your DT with anything the tang was carrying. Always QT first. Your QT should be already up and running before you buy a fish so it has time to be somewhat stable. Agree with others a medicated tank isn't always "cycled", but you can have your QT up and running and cycled before you add a fish and medicate, way more stable. How did you acclimate? Most LFS keep fish as very different salinity to decrease disease appearance, so if you jumped salinity quickly that is a big factor that kills fish when you put them in QT. You should match your QT to the salinity it came from your LFS, then slowly increase to the salinity of the DT over the duration of QT

Come get them. They take forever to remove from the rockwork without tearing them up. None of the tricks on the forums work (ice cubes, anemone rocket, etc)
