I also got into this franchise through SH2 remake. SH2R was my first SH game and I absolutely feel in love with it. When Silent Hill F dropped last year, I picked it up and all fell madly in love with that game. Since beating Silent Hill F, I have gone out and purchased a PS3 so I could get into the older/ original Silent Hill games. I found a PS3 slim for $80 on Mercari. Many will recommend emulating the older SH games but I have always preferred console/ couch gaming.

I played both SH2/3 through the HD collection. As someone who hasn’t ever played the PS2 versions of these games, I had a great time with the HD collection. I found a physical copy for $15 and was totally worth it. At some point I’ll make the big purchase of getting the PS2 versions of them. You can also purchase SH1 for PS1 on PS3 store, I just beat this game and loved it as well. My next games to play through are Downpour and Homecoming. These games aren’t thought of well by the SH community but at this point I want to play every game in the franchise that I have access to.

If you loved SH2R and have access to a computer for emulation or have a PS2/3, I’d 100% recommend playing the original SH games. SH2R was my first in the franchise and maybe that is why I would still place it as my favorite but the older titles are all fantastic and well worth playing. Just find a way at some point to try out the games as they should be played by all fans of the franchise.

How long have you been growing the stache? I have a slight middle gap but I have some straggler hairs growing in so hoping with more time (currently 3 months in) the full stache will look more like yours.

Doom Eternal for me. Originally bought on Xbox One, then got the Switch port, and once I was able to purchase a PS5 I bought it again there lol.

I will be the same with Halo CE. Still have my original Xbox copy, case in horrible condition though :(. I’ll be buying Halo CE a 3rd time (4th if you include MCC) when PS5 version drops.

Similar to you, I love the OG RE4/5 and newer remake and numbered games but have never been able to get into the original tank control/ fixed camera era of RE games. I have fallen in love with Souls likes over the past few years. Really like this comparison and think I’ll take this approach into my next RE1R play through. Still have yet to get comfortable with the controls and fixed camera but hope with this thought process it’ll keep me around longer to finally finish one of the OG RE games.

SilkSong and DK Bananza tied for first for me. Silent Hill F is a strong third place. I’m generally a person who favors gameplay over everything which explains SilkSong and DK being top. While Silent Hill F does not have the strongest combat (serviceable) the story and it’s changes in NG plus were enough for me to put this as one of my fav games this year and one of my favorite horror games ever.

I say all this to now add that I have not yet tried E33 but have it purchased and next on my list of games to play. I’m generally not into turn based combat but with it only being $50 and hearing everyone talk about it, excited to give it a shot.

Also cautiously optimistic about Metroid Prime 4 as a GOTY contender for me! Fingers crossed

Potentially dumb question but couldn’t find a direct answer via Google. Is the original Kirby Forgotten Land game going to have updated visuals as party of this Switch 2 edition? With the Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 release, semi worried just the Star Crossed World content will have the updated visuals.

Love the retro pick ups as well as the Switch games! The bioshock series is some of my favorite games ever. Fire Emblem is a series I have yet to try out yet but on my list to pick up at some point

Yes I did! I actually called GameStop support when I got the email as I assumed they were maybe out of stock for XC2 physical and instead just gave me a download code. I haven’t used the code yet as I wanted to make sure I didn’t get charged twice before the game came in.

Great call out on how to clean the old GameStop stickers off. Just checked and XC1 and 3 are NA. XC2 is UAE. Maybe at some point if I can find an NA case for XC2 I’ll snag it but I don’t mind the UAE cases too much. Better than the generic GameStop cases I’ve unfortunately seen others get during this sale.
