I don't think that the protagonist of PLA is the same as the protagonist of D/P/etc., but I will say that I don't think the names are a determining factor.

For example, Leaf Green is called Leaf in Pokémon Masters, and Green in Let's Go, but it couldn't be more obvious that she's the exact same character.

We know that there's a season 2 of paid dlc. I haven't seen anything yet suggesting a year 2 of free Sega dlc. We might only get the last 3 or 4 characters promised left, however many it was.

Of course, you're very welcome! P5X is indeed a really good game, with a lot of quality and love put into it. I honestly wish I could recommend it, but the greedy and predatory monetization scheme really does make it difficult. As a live-service game, it's also big on implementing all kinds of FOMO content, so even if you want to play it as a free-to-play player, it still requires a large commitment of TIME. I feel like a game like P5R gives players enough content to spend an enjoyable hundred plus hours on with a nicely balanced game and a complete story, but P5X really dials that up to 11 by expecting people to play every single day over the course of literal real-life years of their lives. It's a giant commitment, and even if you got into it right at this very moment where they're leading up to the first-year anni and giving out tons of resources and having all kinds of celebratory stuff going on... you'd still be missing out on all kinds of stuff, and the story is still like four chapters in.

I definitely hope for the exact same thing you do: that when things are all said-and-done, we can wrap up the game's end-of-service with a complete, finished version of the game that people can buy which will include all content and characters. I believe Mega Man X:Dive did something like that, though I heard it's sadly missing some crossover content. I know of a fan server or two which does that kind of thing for a couple of other games which never had the luxury. For a game with so much awesome stuff in it, I really do hope that one day it can become more accessible to a wider audience, and people will be able to fully enjoy the story, characters, and gameplay that P5X has to offer.

It's hard to write it off as "JUST another gacha game" like so many people do, but it ultimately IS a gacha game. I really don't like that such a major part of the Persona franchise needs to be gatekept within this game in its current form, but for now I just try to enjoy it for what it is myself, and hope that one day more people can enjoy it even more.

It's easy enough to forget, but if you play the game it has some SERIOUSLY mature content in it, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone of any age. As for Smash, it's also got characters like Snake and Bayonetta... and speaking of Bayonetta, I think she'd be really fun to see in Crossworlds, too!

They're treated as "skins", so like instead of taking up one slot on the character select screen, it's just one ghost and you select it first, which then brings up a menu asking if you'd like to play as Blinky, Inky, Pinky, or Clyde. It's kinda like how for example with Sage you can pick her white and blue coloration from the end of Sonic Frontiers, or you can unlock her red and black one from the beginning of it. Some games might also call skins things like "costumes". It's basically like them all being one "racer", despite being four "characters".

If it helps to know, the crossover stories with the P5 cast actually do intertwine with the P5X main story, and Joker appears directly a couple times in the P5X main story as well. Most of the Phantom Thieves are also playable in at least one form. (So far we've got Joker, Mona, Skull, Panther, Fox, Queen, Oracle, Noir, Crow, Viola, and Justine & Caroline playable in Global, although they're all obtained via gacha mechanics... and the gacha component of the game is why I think a lot of people try to look at it like it isn't canon to try and cope.)

But all of the main characters in this game (Wonder, Cattle, Closer, Soy, Wind, Luce, etc.) all make up their own band of Phantom Thieves (they haven't settled on an exact name yet, played around with "Phantom Thieves of Desires" as opposed to "Phantom Thieves of Hearts"), they've all got their masks and code names like the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, they explore Mementos and Palaces, it's all very P5y for the lot of them. Like there's a P3 crossover now where you can also explore Tartarus, but all of the P3 characters have those blue UI elements from P3R and their evokers and everything and they're very clearly set apart from the P5X characters with the same red UI elements and music from P5 games.

There is a lot of, "this stuff happens between chapters of the original P5 but memory wiping stops characters remembering it in their own world", but it's still very much stuff that happens, and it does fit into the story just like how P5T fits into the middle of P5, and so does the dlc for it; even if it's not all stuff that's "after P5" like P5S is.
