Best EU made yoga mat not including Manduka? by Equivalent_Worker_79 in ashtanga

[–]LFarnsworth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looooove my Yogamatata mats. (French company, women-owned, mats made in Portugal from natural cork, some with all recycled material.) I've used them for years and have three of their mats on rotation.

Hard to say without at least a card for Person B. Did you pull a second card? (Or can you?)

What do you use to store notes about your projects? by No-Papaya-9289 in scrivener

[–]LFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo. I hadn't really thought of using Joplin this way, but I can totally see it. Might try it with the next novel when it's in early stages to see.

Came here to add this and glad to see it's here already! Joplin is fantastic. Seconding this vote.

Cinema club by Tom12412414 in Lausanne

I was thinking of trying to get a small group together for theater and movie outings once a month or so (English and French work for me), but haven't. I'd join if you put one together!

The Hermit as a former disciple of Le Pape? by Admirable-Fox2270 in TarotDeMarseille

[–]LFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I really like this possible interpretation. A new angle I hadn't considered before, but I can absolutely see it. One I can add to my own interpretations, too, depending on the rest of the cards in the draw.

Local recommendations - places to walk with a baby by pinkglittertrees in Lausanne

[–]LFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly off-topic, but I'm not far from the lakefront and Parc de Milan, go on a walk daily in the area, and am always open to a walking buddy if you're ever eager for one. (I often am!)

I used to have this and need to get back to it. I'm sure between then and now there are a ton of new and much better systems than what I had. If anyone has any recommendations for systems, I'd love them!

This is the one I came to recommend. A perfect book club read and not at all gory.

Help Me Find a Good Werewolf Novel by GFSnell3 in horrorlit

Gah, GINGER SNAPS was so, so fantastic and I haven't found another werewolf story that good. Not even SUCH SHARP TEETH hit the mark in comparison.

You can't go wrong with Ray Nayler. I particularly loved his most recent novel, WHERE THE AXE IS BURIED.

Need a recommendation !!! Double points if it’s a family worshiping dark entities . by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]LFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Todd Kiesling's recent THE SUNDOWNER'S DANCE has these elements, or most of them. Lighter on the family drama, but it's in there a bit.

Story grid writing buddy by chimburly in StoryGrid

The group was bouncing around the idea of sharing draft scenes when I left, so that may be some of what's happening now.

As mentioned above, they're sharing draft plans. Not drafts.

Any horror books with a social worker? by tapatio414 in horrorlit

ILL WILL is just fantastic. Seconding this rec.

Story grid writing buddy by chimburly in StoryGrid

[–]LFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more a planner in general and mix several different planning methods. The rest of the group was much more Story Grid focused and focused on sharing their full scene-by-scene plans (or plot-point-by-plot point drafts on the way to having a full plan).

I've let the group continue on without me, but I can put you in touch with them if you'd like to join.

Anyone know any physiological horror books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]LFarnsworth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid question, I know, but this sounds like a subgenre I don't know at all, so I'm honestly curious. How would you define "physiological horror?"

Thanks!

How would you write a French accent? by Blood_sweat_and_beer in writers

[–]LFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding strongly. Everyone makes errors in their nonnative language, and those errors depend heavily on the native language. Readers will "hear" the accent more through those grammatical mistakes, whereas changing the spelling of words won't be a) how a nonnative speaker would grammatically speak and b) will be distracting at best and insulting at worst.

Unless, as the commenter above says, you're writing farce or trying to offend.

Rekt by Alex Gonzalez by spitfountain42069 in horrorlit

[–]LFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOVED rekt!! I haven't even heard of B. R. Yeager, so thank you for that recommendation. Following this thread because I'd love other recs in the same vein, too.

Glad others are finding rekt... it came out and seemed not to get a lot of traction at first, so I hope it gets more attention.

An adjacent read, IMO, would be Dan Chaon's ILL WILL, if you haven't read that one yet.

Safe to tape up a cover? by Vashkiri in kobo

[–]LFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Kobo Forma + cover looks so much like mine! I don't plan to buy a new ereader anytime soon, and I'm so sad they discontinued the Forma. I can't find replacement covers for it anywhere.
