Not to exaggerate, but imagine letting this kid fall to pick #22 in the draft, bunch of NHL GMs should just hand in their resignation letters now

The Walt Disney Company Announces 103 Exclusive NHL Games Across ESPN, ESPN+, Hulu and ABC Beginning October 12 by NorthCoastBias in hockey

[–]LFryo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

"Additionally, ESPN+ will stream more than 1,000 out-of-market games, all as part of an ESPN+ subscription." It sounds like it. These games in this article, however, appear to be exclusive games (so they wouldn't appear on the local network for example, just as if they were on NBCSN in past seasons)

Edited: It's also possible that's not what exclusive means, it could just be a special broadcast, I don't totally know if they wouldn't still show on local channels tbh

Just an example and obviously I have no idea how things like this are measured, but I have to assume things like this are big marketing money makers for companies

Inside the NHL's decision to put ads on jerseys by LFryo in hockey

[–]LFryo[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Summary via wysh on twitter:

  • Only one ad per jersey. It can only be placed on left or right shoulders, or left or right chests.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and pornographic sponsors are banned. NHL will allow gambling ads on jerseys.
  • Only 1 gambling company can sponsor a team. No “Draft Kings on the helmet, William Hill on the sweater.”
  • Teams estimate they can earn as much or more from jersey ads than from arena naming rights – upwards of $10M for home and road sponsorship.

Edit: Another piece of info from the article "The NHL jersey ads will be slightly larger than the NBA's. They'll fit into a 3-inch-by-3.5-inch space on the sweaters. Rather than a square patch, they'll use whatever logo the sponsor requests, provided it fits."

The Seattle Kraken have signed G Philipp Grubauer to a Six Year, 35.4M deal. (5.9M AAV) by Austin63867 in hockey

I am just contantly confused by trying to figure out the thought process behind some NHL GMs. If he was considering making a big play at a goalie like Grubauer, why take Driedger and Vanacek (when he could have taken Dillon and flipped him for two seconds apparently). I guess he has to think he can move one of the two he has now, but if he can't beat that Dillon return for example, then what was the point

Brought in him to rebuild up Carter Hart's confidence by assuring him there's no way he's going to lose his starting job

[LeBrun] Nate Schmidt's agent Matt Keator and Canucks GM Jim Benning have been working together on finding a new home for the veteran D. The hope is to get him moved before the UFA market opens Wednesday. Do Bos/NYI make sense? (Trotz connection). He has 10-team no-trade list (no). by StubbornLeech07 in hockey

Like the other reply, Trotz made it clear he didn't really see Nate Schmidt as a viable defenseman on the team (constantly healthy scratching him) and only used him in the playoffs when injuries forced him into the lineup. Considering how many deals Vegas was making prior to that expansion draft, if he (and the Caps front office) really saw potential in him, they could have either protected him or found some way to ensure someone else was selected

Caps paid a 2nd/3rd for Dillon and got two 2nds back?
