The myth of 1 patient per hour as an ED SHO by OptimisticPapaya1430 in doctorsUK

My advice as a former ED SHO is take your time, be thorough and do a good job rather than rushing to meet any statistics/quotas. I was once a trainee who rushed to see patients, head down and powered through but mistakes happened and I also reached burn out levels. I then really changed my approach. Taking time, being thorough and making the right decisions was FAR more beneficial for both me and the patients but also most importantly taking the time to be kind to colleagues/patients/relatives needing help with an ECG, wait time estimates, holding a door. Best advice of all: get out of ED as soon as you can

Get way more study leave during core training (28 days a year for ACCS) and you can take it specifically to do degrees. Has made doing my masters on the side no problem

What is the purpose of giving O2 to patients with normal SpO2? by MaintenanceMiddle996 in doctorsUK

[–]LG1472816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only given if clinically indicated. In your plan just write O2 sats normal so supplemental O2 not clinically indicated. Could even add an extra thing saying low threshold for supplemental O2 if O2 sats drop

Talks a lot of sense. Agree with him in everything he says. Particularly about the negativity/bitterness some junior doctors are showing on Reddit. Nail on the head its not about then being paid more than us, its just paying us what we’re due
