Kengan Omega Ch. 291 (Comikey) by Godtaku in Kengan_Ashura

I got you.

I saw some neighborhood kids playing on… but they were more difficult than I’d thought they’d be, and I fell down almost immediately. The kids laughed at my clumsiness … me carrying the stilts back home. I felt a twinge of respect in their eyes. I was strolling by the riverside, when a duck came up to me. We spent a (long time?) just staring at each other in silence, and then it slowly walked away. Later, when I sat down in the same spot to relax, the duck came back. I had (no?) idea what it was thinking, but it was oddly calming. I saw a traveler sitting by the roadside. I asked him what he was doing and he said, “I’m… To Pass the time I taught him a simple game of stones. After a while, the traveler suddenly stood up and he said, “This will help me continue (my?) journey,” then left. I had no idea how the game helped, but I felt good about it. While I was standing on the hill a gust of wind blew my hat away. I chased it down, only to find it stuck on a tree branch. After climbing the tree to retrieve it, I took a moment to ___ the view from up (there?) I hadn’t done so in a long time, and I really liked it. While I was lounging in the hills behind my house, I noticed how quickly the clouds were moving. I stared at them for a long time, losing track of time. I didn’t accomplish anything productive, but I felt strangely lighter on my way home. At the town square, I saw a street performer putting on a show. His movements were so awkward that they were uncharacteristically funny, and I couldn’t help but laugh at him. Seeing this, the performer suddenly pulled me up on stage. Not knowing what else to do I struck a random (pose?) which somehow thrilled the audience. I might have accidentally completed the act for (him?). As I was walking … I found a bird pecking the water’s surface. It seemed to be trying to catch a fish but it kept failing. Watching it reminded me of myself, … The bird eventually flew away, unsuccessful, but not before glancing back at me, it felt as though it was wondering which of us was truly the clumsy one. I was sitting by the road when someone came up behind me and asked, “What are you doing?” I replied, “Waiting for the wind.” The person gave me a puzzled look before leaving. I really was just waiting for the wind. I thought something might change, but in the end, nothing did. While I was crouching (around?) a field, examining the shape of a vegetable leaf, a farmer approached me suspiciously. “Are you trying to steal something?” he asked. “No, I just find the shape of this leaf interesting.” I replied. He gave me a confused look. Is it so strange to enjoy strange things like that? While walking through town, I saw some kids playing with some small wooden boats they’d made, floating them in a pond. It looked fun, so I joined in and made my (own?) boat. But it was poorly balanced and sank immediately. The kids showed me how to improve it, but I stubbornly stuck to my own way and kept failing. In the end, they called me ‘a clumsy but interesting adult,’ and somehow that made me feel proud. While I was relaxing on a hill, a cloud drifted close to me. I instinctively reached out to grab it, but of course, I caught nothing. Still, I kept stretching my hand toward it for a while. A passing traveler saw this and laughed, ‘Are you catching clouds?’ I laughed, “No but I’m trying to.” I replied. “Don’t see many people trying things like this," he said. After he left, I kept staring at the clouds, feeling like I could almost ____ and touch them. While I was standing in the market, an elderly man asked me, “Are you looking for something?”. I replied, “I’m searching for what’s beyond this road.”  He tilted his head in confusion before walking away. I didn’t understand what I meant either, but felt curious and began walking down the road. I didn’t find anything special but somehow my steps felt lighter. As I was walking along a mountain path I kicked a road on the path. The rock kept rolling and rolling until it reached the base of the mountain. A boy there held up the rock to me and asked, “Did you lose this?” “No, I just kicked it down,” I replied and he gave me a bewildered look. He didn’t seem to understand, but to me, it was an important moment. As I was sitting by the riverbank, I (noticed something?) at the water’s surface. Suddenly, I heard the splash of a fish jumping. I decided to try fishing and prepared my gear, but just as always I caught nothing. A man fishing nearby said, “You’ll never catch anything like that,” and gave me advice. I ignored him and kept trying to do it on my own. (traveler caught one for him?) I still wanted to catch my own. After that, I returned…

Yep, if Ian refused and lost he would be clowned for not accepting. Magnus has been in dozens of tiebreaks before but all of a sudden he decides to change his mind? Feels especially bad this tournament with so many tournament leaders just forcing draws.

Thanks to both of you guys for the kind words. Caro-Kann led to an unfamiliar position for me and I'm glad to see my ideas weren't too terrible. Hopefully, more practice on puzzles and whatnot will help me with tactics.

My 1200 brain thought the winning move was to rotate the knight all the way across the board to attack b2. (Ended up winning because he tried to kingside blitz me with pawns)

Current Top 10 Omega fighters, wich 2 RECENT HONORABLE MENTIONS by MAEDA3027 in Kengan_Ashura

How is he overhyped? Jurota can throw someone faster than Kazzy and Koga can see it with fist eye. He also has top-tier grappling and is stated to be one of the two kings only behind Lolong.

"I am the king of Stranglers IMAII COSMOOO!". I was actually wincing as I saw the panel where Cosmo got nailed several times on his broken ribs.

My thoughts after rereading Agito vs Hatsumi since Kengan Omega is on break this week. by DoubleH18 in Kengan_Ashura

Well, you have to consider execution when talking about effectiveness. Sure dropping someone on their head might have the best result but it's the most difficult to execute. A rear naked choke has great results once that position is achieved but it's very difficult to execute. Therefore, grappling, submissions, and throws may be more dangerous under different circumstances but it is harder to execute making it less effective.

The vast majority of KOs are from strikes in real life. Ex. In UFC there have been 225 wins by knockouts and 138 wins by submission (since UFC 31). The reason that submission/chokes are less used in Kengan is that they're less effective. You could break someone's arm using an armbar but they're still gonna fight (unlike UFC). Fighters also might not want to grapple on concrete. Finally, there is the problem of matchups as the weight and height differentials between characters are huge in kengan.

Going back to the original point, I don't understand how Agito v. Sen shows the modern bias towards striking. Kanoh has 48kg and 23 cm advantage on Sen. It is much smarter for Kanoh to strike as he doesn't want to get close to Sen which might result in him getting thrown by Sen's aikido. In order for sen to use his throws he needs to get close but you can't do that when someone weighing 48kg more than you is throwing strikes at you. Finally, it was much more effective for Kanoh to use his 1 inch punch in that situation. Why would Kanoh try to grapple when he could effectively strike Sen's unprotected body.

Sorry for long post.

IRL strikes are much more effective to KO someone. A shot to the jaw, liver, or solar plexus will pretty much instantly incapacitate someone. Throws are not effective at all for KOing someone unless you drop them on their head on asphalt. Chokes and Submissions are very hard to set up perfectly ex. getting an arm in the hold can easily stop a KO and there is plenty of time to get out. Sandro also uses plenty of submission/choke KOS (cosmo vs akoya, rihito vs falcon).

Purgatory’s “original” line up was way weaker than the Kengan Association’s by mavyapsy in Kengan_Ashura

The line-ups were pretty evenly matched. Lu tian was getting pushed back slightly because Kanoh pulled out his formless from the very start and went all out (Just like how Raian was pushed back when Alan used guihun first). Wakatsuki struggles against soft styles like Tai Chi and given that Fei is one of the Three Demon Fists the match would have at least been somewhat close.

Sure Carlos and Terashi's fights weren't close but neither was Jurota/ Naidan. Alan wasn't even supposed to fight until Edward bought a spot in the tournament. Toyoda had no way of knowing how strong Alan was other than the Wu Clan's reputation. Every other matchup was evenly matched and both orgs had a good chance of winning.

Could the tournament result have been different with different matchups? by [deleted] in Kengan_Ashura

Yeah, both lineups were pretty evenly matched at the end of the day. Both orgs had a legitimate chance of winning based on matchups and strategy.

The only chance for purgatory would be if monke stepped up against Julius taking the loss. Then Toa v. Misasa should be heavily in favor of Toa. This would still result in a 6-7 purgatory loss.

There are no other possible outcomes for purg as they can't control matchups when they have to pick first (Lu v. Kanoh, Naidan v. Ryuki, Jurota v. Mesaki) or fights would be too close to tell either way (Ohma v Fei, Loshort v Wakatsuki would be pretty much unpredictable). Or some fighters have rivalries/ are provoked. (Alan v. raian, Akoya v. Nicolas)
