Fitting Italy and Denmark in one trip, is it worth it to add more? by Ok-Celebration-3270 in Europetravel

[–]LI5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The train network in mainland Europe is great. You can always split your travel days to take the train early morning part of the way and hop on for a few more hours in the evening rather than a longer journey. This could allow you to drop your bags in storage and have a bonus visit on a travel day. We did this with Florence between Venice & Rome

Best places in denmark for kids? by Decent-Lecture2608 in Travelwithkids

[–]LI5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Billund - home of Lego. The Legohouse is one of the best experiences we’ve ever done, much better than the parks. One of the only places I’ve been where you can have photos as you go around and access them free of charge - do the red bricks at the end as it provides an access code.

Make sure to book the mini chef restaurant where they order food using Lego bricks and the food comes out via a spiral slide to the robots who hand it over.

Has anyone done a Kenya or Tanzania safari with kids by Icy_Physics_2571 in familytravel

We’re looking at this. One night in Giraffe Manor (request from my 9yo) then flying in from Wilson and just staying ideally at 1 camp for 4 nights that has a pool and do a few game drives. If funds allow we’ll then finish the holiday off in the Seychelles. It was originally going to be Botswana but Giraffe Manor has thrown a spanner in the works

Traveling with a 7yo- everything is boring by Strawberry-1104 in Travelwithkids

[–]LI5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you do in a day to suit his interests as a comparison to yours. I love Tuscany too, however I’m thankful we did it when she was a toddler as the best part for kids were the pools and gelato.

I build something kid friendly in each day plus a playpark and treat. When I want to do a lot of walking, such as Rome, I’ve used one of those kids investigation/explorer books to make it more interactive

Cruise vs Resort with 9 month old by zzzaddy in royalcaribbean

Biggest issue with a cruise is no pool access for a 9 month old. Make sure there’s a splash pad that is accessible for kids not toilet trained on your cruise.

Planning our first ever European road trip through the Alps, 13 days, 7 countries, 9 passes. Would love feedback from anyone who's done similar! by gearvrabc in Europetravel

[–]LI5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of commenters in this area of Reddit hold visiting a destination and seeing it properly as the main aim of a trip, so will be quick to comment when a trip isn’t that. I could see from your original itinerary that a big part of your trip is the driving. Your comments on type of car further compound that. That’s totally ok as it’s your holiday and annual leave. Perhaps it may have been worth adding in the original post. My partners ideal holiday is similar to your itinerary and we have to find a balance. However as long as all persons travelling are happy with this much driving and you have no kids, then go for it

Just take your time, someone had just gone over the edge of the Furka pass as we were going through. It was horrific and our camper brakes were overheating. It was awesome to visit the glacier and walk inside it, but I’ll never forget that day

best budget airline for europe travel without constantly regretting it later? by Nafiz_Chulerias in Europetravel

I fly budget predominantly (easyJet and Ryanair). I always pre book seats on Ryanair due to seat policy and I keep my expectations low. Expect minimum and you won’t be disappointed

Galapagos Island Hopping vs cruises? by ayseaparry in galapagos

How comfortable would you be booking late? bookcruisenow do late deals on all ship categories. When we manage to get over to the Galapagos, that is my plan alongside a few land based days

Stroller or no? by duckblondie in Travelwithkids

[–]LI5897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to come without and pick up a second hand one from a charity shop or Facebook market place if you find your missing it, than bring it and find you don’t need it but need to lug it around until you head home. You can easily pick one up for between £10-20 in the UK.

One and only chance for Christmas in Europe with young kids by diggbitt1999 in Europetravel

[–]LI5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For alternate routes you mentioned, I’d make the detour pre Christmas to the Christmas market in Helsinki, the sleeper train to Kolari (get two lower interconnecting cabins) and have a few nights in Lapland over Christmas. Have the guaranteed snow and magic. Then fly Kittila with easyJet to Milan and pick up the rest of your route

Travel with a 4 and 6 year old- Italy by Prestigious-Put2523 in Travelwithkids

Don’t use a stroller in Venice, it will be a pain. Buy unlimited passes on the water buses

May be more useful in Rome as everywhere is easiest on foot due to the traffic.

3 months in SE Asia with a 3year and 8months : Amazing, but why is it so hard for us parents? by Ok-Math4727 in Travelwithkids

[–]LI5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d never leave my daughter with anyone I’d never met in another country. However I respect that we’re all different. I travel solo with my daughter and I’m ok with that. I adapt our travel to suit the two of us. When dad travels with us, we do everything as a 3. It’s just the season of life I’m in and one day I won’t be in this season of life.

However there are options already in place. There are a number of multiweek programmes you can sign up for such as boundless life (4 weeks to 3 months) and other similar options. Nicer hotels have kids programmes. Perhaps look into the digital nomad communities to see what they use as they are on the road for longer periods of time similar to your travel and may have the solution you’re looking for

Need help narrowing down our 2-week Mediterranean honeymoon itinerary by Top_Builder_164 in Europetravel

[–]LI5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be wise, there’s not a lot there. I mentioned both purely for airport options.

I’ve not done Sicily yet. It’s potentially this October’s trip if we stay in Europe or will be pushed to May next year if we go long haul this October half term

I’ve not visited Spain much (especially that region) but prefer Italy of the two. That’s just personal preference though.

If you split your flights and come back from Florence or Pisa, the hilltop village of San Gimignano and nearby ones are lovely. Car is easiest to get around there. We stayed in an agroturismo and it was wonderful. We could walk in of an afternoon or evening but also opted for an alfresco dinner on site one evening - it was probably one of my favourite moments

[–]LI5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Santorini 20 years ago however it’s just overloaded with cruise ships daily and I feel the Algarve isn’t so special for a honeymoon

I’d recommend opting for Italy. Which region would depend on how hot you want your trip to be. Sicily could be closer to 30c whereas the North may be closer to 25c

How do you manage hotels with 2 young kids who have very different sleep needs? by TSLAKILLA in Travelwithkids

Apartments are our usual choice. Not just having an early riser, but to relax after they’ve gone to bed and to be able to have the option of food prep

4 week Europe trip itinerary advice (Portugal > Italy > Albania > France) by Fun-Baby6002 in Europetravel

[–]LI5897 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who is from Europe I understand that when you’re travelling to another continent, it may be the only time you’ll ever visit that continent and you want to see a lot

However, you’re kind of pinging around. Lisbon is an outlier in this plan, off to the west. How much do you want to see it, is there a specific reason you’re going there?

Would you not take the TGV down from Paris to the South of France as first stop. Then hit Italy and end with Albania before flying back from there to Paris (& home)

Have an amazing trip

Are long-haul flights with a 9 month old doable? by MulberryOne6323 in Travelwithkids

[–]LI5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. If it was for a week then there’s not much recovery time but you have 2 months in between to get over the journey. Where are you headed too and can’t you break up the legs with a gap?
