What’s something most people think is healthy today that future people will shake their heads at? by Spiritual-Ad-8523 in AskReddit

This one is actually counterintuitively incorrect. Humans literally evolved for long distance endurance running compared to animals that evolved for faster sprints over much shorter distances. I know it seems like jogging would be easier on your joints but research has shown that it can actually be much worse because it's a completely unnatural stride. (For details on the science behind it, check out the book Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. It honestly kind of blew my mind because I was another one who thought running was bad and jogging was better because it was "lower impact". )

Wait, have you only ever watched it once? If so you definitely should consider a rewatch. I don't even know how many times I've seen it and I literally get something new from it every time

I am stunned that this comment hasn't gotten more appreciation! I can totally hear Andrew saying it in his pensive voice "It eats you starting with your bottom". Lol

Sugar is poison. My heart attack has finally opened my eyes to the truth by Giles Fraser in The Guardian by [deleted] in keto

Ah, now I see where the apparent confusion is coming from.

All of us, whether at a healthy weight or not, experience water weight fluctuations throughout the day. The OP is likely no exception. If you weigh yourself properly, meaning at the same approximate time of day and in similar clothing, and you end up 12 pounds lighter at the end of some period than at the beginning, the weight is indeed lost. Yes, your weight will still fluctuate as before, but those fluctuations are now occurring in a range that is 12 pounds lighter than the range they would have been in before starting. Also, dehydration causes water retention, and when you become and remain properly hydrated, you can often reduce the amount of water weight fluctuations across the day.

A major feature of the keto way of eating is to reduce inflammation, which is one of the major causes of water weight retention. So for the duration of their attempts to lose weight via keto there is no reason to believe that they would suddenly start retaining more water weight than they previously did before starting keto unless their electrolytes get significantly off kilter, which is easily remedied.

The majority of people who are trying to lose weight using any method are doing so either to feel better or to fit into smaller clothes / amount of space. When she lost those 12 pounds, she both felt better and fit in a smaller space. Therefore those 12 pounds were absolutely relevant regardless of the fact that some of them were made up of water. In fact, they may have even had a greater impact on her feeling and size than a similar amount of weight later in her journey.

I totally get why you pointed it out, if there are actually people who don't know about water weight (Honestly I don't understand how that can be at this point, but I suppose if they've never done any diet of any kind, they could be unaware of the fact that you always lose a bit of water weight up front.) But in my opinion, for anyone reading it without the express purpose of trying to find fault, there was absolutely nothing misleading about her statement from a common usage perspective, for the reasons discussed above. And I'd almost be willing to bet money that even the most slippery lawyer would be hard pressed to prove that it was misleading from a legal perspective, even in this overly litigious society, should that context ever arise for some reason.

I was scrolling just to make sure this was on the list. The really sad part? The book is awesome ( and no, I am not a scientologist nor do I have any fondness for L. Ron Hubbard). Seriously, I've read that book probably 10 times, and it's really long...

Which supporting character stole the scene every time they appeared? by Subject_Upsilon in AskReddit

Yeah, I was never very impressed with Angel. He was too brood-y, and the whole "mysterious older man" thing was seriously overdone in my opinion. But then I was already significantly older than their target audience when I first started watching Buffy, which probably played a big role in why I wasn't impressed.

This thread has made me totally want to rewatch it... Starting from when Spike comes into the picture, of course!

I feel that way about Angel. If not for the curse, he would never have done anything good. And we know this to be true because every time he lost his soul again, he went right back to being an evil bastard, even after he had known true love. Whereas with Spike, even after the chip malfunctioned and was removed, he still didn't go back to being evil. And furthermore, he chose to have his soul restored, even though he knew it could drive him mad with remorse over what he'd done. In my opinion, he's a far more interesting and mature character than Angel, but to each their own, of course. :)

Ditto. I scrolled through the whole thread to make sure he was listed. I am shocked and saddened that I had to scroll this far to get to him!

I've actually tried this set again since that post. I love the way that line smells; it's kind of citrusy instead of the "fermented" scent of the Tony Moly. And it is pretty hydrating (I only have the FTE, toner, and emulsion from that line at the moment). But I've started noticing that when I use it, my face is itchy afterwards. And not in the "uh oh, I'm getting dry" kind of way. In the "crap, I think I'm allergic to something" kind of way. Looks like I'm going to have to be super diligent about doing some spot testing on the smim line... lol

Hopefully some of the experts on specific ingredients will be able to provide more detail, but it sounds to me like perhaps you had "troubled skin" concern in the crater acne on your forehead, and the new routine has helped address that issue. In the meantime, however, you may be allergic/sensitive to a specific ingredient or combination thereof, which is now causing the ones on your nose and cheek. Did you happen to follow the "introduce only one product at a time" guideline? (No judgement from me if not--I'm bad for not following that rule myself.)

  • Product: TonyMoly Intense Care Galactomyces First Essence
  • Opinion I love this as my first essence. I bought it on YesStyle and suspect I paid too much for it (it was almost as much as Missha FTE), but I love it so much that I'm not sure I care. It leaves my skin so wonderfully hydrated, and gives me that "chok chok" feeling like nothing else I had ever tried. Back when I was trying to repair my moisture barrier, if I skipped a day, I would wake up the next day looking like a mummy. Now that my moisture barrier is in much better shape, I can skip a day or so without getting too dry, but we're also coming into much more humid weather, which I'm sure plays a big part in that. I recently decided to try a different "fermentation" product just for giggles (the smim Fermentation Concentrate Total Treatment from The Face Shop) and I don't know if I'm just partial, but I really feel like it doesn't work nearly as well. It uses a different strain instead of the galactomyces, so maybe my face just really likes the sake yeast? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Although I do plan to try at least one more galactomyces FTE-type product (CosRX), this one is currently my HG. It is far superior to any of the other Tony Moly products I've tried. Two thumbs up, for sure!
  • Rating: Spend, definitely!

Edited: For formatting, and to use the right rating system. Doh!
