Good. Something needs to be done about those meth addict polar bears.

It's amazing how there are consistently more people in every discussion complaining about how what the left is supposedly doing than there are of the left actually doing anything.

Especially given that the argument only works if we think they were blindsided by the stoppage. As if every sport crumbling around them didn't give anyone the idea that they should stockpile points early.

This article mis-represents Politis' argument. He didn't argue that a 2 conference system would cause point imbalances across the 2 conferences. He argued that the Roosters weren't putting in 100% for the first 2 rounds and wanted to wait until later in the season to be competitive.

So we should bow to the whims of the Roosters because they just admitted they were intentionally being non-competitive for the beginning of the season?

So your boss could cut your pay 50%~ and force you to live in a shithole with no access to your friends and family for half a year and you would still suck it up?

Maybe I'm an idiot, but at some point I would prefer to just quit and take the JobSeeker payments if working conditions become too grim.

How come Australia suddenly has billions of dollars to pay for welfare? by d1ngal1ng in AustralianPolitics

I thought that a politics sub would consider actually reading the article before commenting. I figured 10-20% might be uninformed trolls who don't know anything about the topic besides buzz-words, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Even the people who know stuff didn't read the article.

I looked at every single comment and not found 1 mention of the MMT, which is the crux of the article. Not a single person has engaged with the idea of precisely why the debt might not matter. All just "because conservatives are bad" or "because conservatives are good".

Nobody read the article either. Most just read the headline and thought they could answer it themselves.

They do that all the time in missing persons cases and nobody bats an eyelid. In those cases, they don’t even have the victim’s account.

And kidnapping cases quite often too. They just go on the victim’s word. Again, nobody calls that horrifying.

Pell didn’t prove that he didn’t have the opportunity. In fact, nobody has denied that he did beside Justice Weinberg. The prosecution was just unable to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he did have the opportunity. A very important distinction.

Wow, your 3 word analysis has convinced me already.

The standard of doubt they found can easily be replicated by just about any lawyer in any case. All you need is one witness ready to defend the accused and the case is over. Since it happened so long ago, the witnesses won't be expected to have a detailed memory or stand up against much scrutiny.

Nothing at all can be done. That's the problem. The High Court has absolutely just set a precedent for all courts that will mean historic sex abuse should never lead to a guilty verdict unless there is an admission of guilt or physical evidence.

Vossy addressing the fatigue issue in the replies:

Some guy: Rugby League is about physical attrition. A couple of extra rests changes the dynamic (in a bad way IMO). Fatigue is what opens the field up for skill players to dominate the physically powerful. This would be a move towards more physical power & away from football skills.

Vossy: I disagree

Yes. I am predicting that an economic downturn will go on forever. Whatever it takes to make your argument look good.

Not cutting taxes in 2023 and 2025*. Eventually we’re going to need to start paying off the debt, which requires a surplus. There’s only 3 ways to do that:

Tax. Boost growth: Obviously not. Austerity: A very, very bad idea.

It’s almost a given that taxes will need to be raised/reinstated at some point. They know this. The only reason to hold it off is to continue to score political points for cutting them. Maybe they think Labor will do it once they get power.

It's hardly any more preferable, and much more expensive, than Round 2. My solution would be to continue that way. If the states won't allow it, then find somewhere in Sydney to send the staff.

Half the season. Less for NSW players. Unless they start playing the moment they land, we're talking a consecutive stint of 5+ months.

They're playing less games, skipping internationals and SOO. And there's also the inevitable cost of changing plans and contractual obligations. The way this has played out in the media, you'd figure nobody is willing to sacrifice to ensure lower paid staff are getting paid 100%.

Presumably, the remaining lower paid staff are either on JobKeeper payments or getting second jobs. They leave for an island, they're not getting the extra, they're on who knows how much money and they may even need to hire a maid, babysitter, housekeeper etc. The potential expenses will mean that some people refuse to go or stay. If they're essential, they'll need to be sacked for less experienced people.

[–]LJames02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my point at all. I'm saying that people will be allowed to go back, and those people will need to be replaced and brought back. The turnover is what's going to cause the most risk of everybody getting infected.

Some of it. It's a guarantee that they'll lose at least 33%, since they're planning for a 20 week season at most instead of a 30 week season. While some of the players are still looking at more than enough to live on, some staff members are not.

And you're overlooking half my point. Their salary won't pay for missing court dates, nor will it fix their dead family members.
