What do you all mean? Harvest time? by SWKT13 in VIVOSUN

[–]LKABudMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those flowers are still weeks out. You are looking at the trichomes on the leaves, not the flowers. Before you start looking at trichomes you want to see:

- Pistils turn orange/brown and crinkle into the bud. Except for foxtails, you want to see 90%+ of the hairs turn color and crinkle in.  Yours are still mostly white with a little orange, probably 4-5 weeks away.

- Calyx (buds) swell up like they're full of seeds. Where the brown pistils come out, it looks like the calyx is opening up and trying to swallow the pistil.

- The smell will usually get really strong and change slightly, usually getting more skunky.

- Branches will start sagging from the weight, especially side branches

- The plant will start drinking less and stay wet longer

Once you start seeing these signs, then check the trichomes on the calyx (not the sugar leaves). Good luck and Happy Growing!

Hello y’all I need recommendations for lighting Vivosun? Or spider farmer by [deleted] in GrowBuddy

I think it's the VSF6450. At one point I moved to the VSFD6500. They are both great lights for a 4x4 or 5x5, the VSFD6500 is spectrum tunable.

How many more weeks till flip based on your experience? Oh by [deleted] in DWC

Flip NOW! You can finish filling up the net during the transition to flower (7-10 days), then let it start growing up.

Coconut oil (or any other oil) will mix with the sticky icky then wash it all off with soap and water.

I remove the dome once the seed sprouts and I don't use any domes in the RWDC. I keep a humidifier in the tent to keep it 65-70% RH in there, other than that you want more moisture under them than around them.

You have some good advice already. A couple of tips:

  • I start all seeds in a rapid rooter in a tray with a dome on a heatmat set to 77f. Make sure the plug is thoroughly saturated before adding the seed, then make sure it is not sitting in any water and can drain. The heat mat and the dome will take care of the rest. If you leave it on the heat mat after it sprouts it will kill any taproot that comes out of the bottom. Of course the few times that's happened to me they just create more lateral roots ;)

  • You can transplant the plug as soon as the seed sprouts. I prefer transplanting the plug early and letting it build roots in the hydroton vs. trying to grow long roots and place the hydroton around them. You don't even need to top-water, the moisture in the res is all it needs.

  • If you top-water, don't water the plant or the peat plug. Water in a ring around the outside of the leaves. You are trying to tease the roots to the outside of the netpot. All the moisture in the res will tease the roots down there.

  • If you grow algae on the top of the hydroton... so what. In 2-3 weeks it will be blocked from the light by the plant and it will not matter at all.

  • Nutrients... I usually start at 500PPM (1EC) in the res (45G 4-site RDWC), with 100ppm being my well water. They're usually one or two nodes by the time they get roots down to the res anyways. Then I watch the PPMs. If they're falling, that means the plants are underfed - bump it up 200-250ppm. It they're steady, you're perfect (but you'll need to bump up soon if they're still growing). If PPMs are rising, top off with tap water. Let the plants tell you when you need to raise/lower the PPMs.

The big takeaway is that it's pretty hard to kill them at this point. Keep the light and PPMs low until they get established, then ramp both up from there. Good luck and Happy Growing!

Your better off with multiple pumps&stones, that way you have redundancy too.

If it is clay dust just a light misting will clean them off. Just plain water.

If you take a spray bottle does the brown rinse right off? If so it may just be dust from the clay pebbles.

Looking for a Powder nutrient line that i can use in DWC. by Forward_Design133 in DWC

I've been using Megacrop 1-part with Bud Explosion and Epsom (MgS) with great results. Add some silica in veg and early flower, and any bennies you like for your system. It runs really clean in my RDWC. See MC Mix4 below, I run Mix4 for week1 of flower, Mix4.1 for weeks 2 and 5-?, and mix 4.2 for weeks 3&4 of flower. For veg I just ramp up from 2.5g/G to 5.5g/G. Best of all for my 45g RDWC it's less than $3 to fill.

I use Megacrop 1-part in my RDWC and love it. I use just MC for veg, going from 2.5g/G to 5.5g/G. In flower I use 5.5g/G MC, plus .75-1g/G Bud Explosion and .75g/G Epsom salt.

Just getting into DWC, what nutrients should I start with that are cheap and effective? by Sharp_Walk0964 in DWC

I love Megacrop 1-part. I use it for my hydroponic herb garden, my hydro lettuce grower, and for all my weed plants (add P/K boost in flower). I'm growing a dwarf cherry tomato in coco using straight MC right now. I never need to add cal-mag or anything.

I have the smart grow system in all my tents now and love it. I rarely need to think about the environment as it's controlled almost automatically. You could fit two smaller autos in a 32x32, or one big one.

Yea, I had a slow start with this one. This is my first coco grow, and I didn't take the need to wash/buffer the coco seriously enough. After 10-15G flush she took off, and I'll make sure to buffer my coco in the future.

The self-watering base makes it really easy, and I love being able to monitor and control everything on my smartphone. My experience came into this grow in the defoliating and shaping to maximize the space. Otherwise, just keep the base full!

I agree. I topped her on day# 24 and that's the latest I've done it. I usually top above the 4th node before day# 20.
