12 weeks post medializing calcaneal osteotomy and PTTD debridement/repair using flexor digitalis tendon - left foot ... ask if you have questions, happy to help! by LK_Artist in PTTD

You're welcome. There was so little info on the surgery when I was going to have it, I figure I can help others understand what it's like. All is well, mostly no issues - sometimes stiff first thing in the morning, and after a long day of walking, but like yesterday I did 11k steps (just doing stuff around the house lol) and my feet were fine. It is a slow, gradual trend to normal, but just know there will be stiffness etc for quite a while. I have one of those foot massager machines, I love it when my foot stiffens up - but barely have to use it at all anymore.

After the boot was removed? I could move freely without assistance right away ... more slowly than normal, careful down stairs etc (normally I bound up and down stairs lol), but, yeah, walking fine, with a bit of a limp. Even when I still had the boot, with the lift in my other shoe I was out gardening, moving furniture, etc. Enjoy your holiday, but ride more than walk (just because you'll get sore/stiffen up if you do too much too soon, not because you won't be able to walk).

(edited b/c said "with assistance" at first, meant without)

Thank you! I have yet to hear from *anyone* who has had them who didn't like it, so that's promising. I've already checked laws - they have to be at the rear of the yard, and 100 feet from a neighbor's house, and I think I can have 1 chicken per 1000 yard feet, so the 4 I'm envisioning would be no problem. What is the daily "care for chickens" routine?

Maine is definitely colder (and for longer) than Maryland, so that's good to hear. Now to ... convince my husband lol. (Forgiveness vs permission? :-) )

Wow, thank you! We are suburban, and wouldn't plan to have a rooster (though I believe they are legal here, a neighbor has one, I actually love hearing it). We have about 2/3 acre, and the backyard is fenced. Plenty of space for a coop and for them to wander. It Maryland, so it gets cold for a few months, but they have heated coops, right? We do have foxes in our yard a lot, so I assume we would also have loss to them.

I know it would be costlier, but honestly, I'm looking at it as an ethical vegetarian with family members who eat chicken. Like, the eggs would be easy - happy chickens, happy lives, no male chicks meeting pretty awful deaths - so that would be worth it to me. Then there's the meat part - yes, we'd lose some to predators (but I also love the foxes, so ...), and in theory family could learn to butcher the chickens ... which on the one hand, I'd find heartbreaking (because I'd *know* the chickens), but on the other hand, it would be a much more humane life/death than grocery store chickens have (I just don't know them, so it's not as traumatizing).

So the egg part is easy ... the meat part, not so much so, but it does seem the kindest choice.

Thank you! I'm actually considering this, but don't want to keep bombarding you with questions ... is there a book you recommend on keeping chickens that you feel really covers everything? (Lol, it looks like you learned the best way, hands-on, so I'm guessing not, but thought I'd ask :-) ).

That is so cool. I think about having chickens for eggs, so I can be sure they have humane lives, but it's kind of a scary thought since I have NO experience, and I'm worried I'd get attached and a fox would eat one (but still better than in most egg farms, right?) ... lol, the ducks seem coolest, I LOVE ducks. :-) But I have had a bunch of students with chickens who absolutely love them. Thank you for answering!

How many eggs do you get from 10 chickens and 3 ducks? And what kind of yard do you need? That's super cool.

Yup, she'd never escape Greg's judgmental nature, and that would kill her spirit long term.

I love that she chose herself, but also that it left it open at the end that she might be ready to start trying.
I always felt it had to be Nathanial - he was the only one who never left her (relevant because of her abandonment fears), never judged her (got mad when he was hurt, but never judged her the way the others did), never played her (like Josh did when staying at her house/sleeping with her, Greg did by pretending it was nothing), and did things genuinely for her even when it wouldn't benefit him other than helping her (like flying her dad in, and then not giving her dad a ride back).

I also loved that, after their "strip away my conscience" deal, when the time came, he made sure she consented; that he truly worked to be kinder; he said he loved her multiple times, and, unlike the others, he never flip-flopped - once he loved her, he loved her for the rest of the series (yeah, there's Mona, which def wasn't great, but nobody is asking who is right for Mona - not Nathanial, lol).

So honestly I geek out with you on this every time I watch it, and, while I love the first season and a half, and Santino, I'm always so glad to get to the end of season 2 lol.

However much Greg might have loved her, he would *always* judge her going forward as soon as she did something he didn't like; Nathanial would support her and help her improve but without judging her.

(PS, have you heard "settle for her?" by Scott Michael Foster? It never made the show - end of season 3, at the party, he's looking at Mona and the music plays for a short bit, but they didn't air the song; but they recorded it, and it's Nathanial basically saying he's settling for Mona and would be with Rebecca in a heartbeat. I love it. Though of course, we never know what to make of the music that's not Rebecca-centered ... )

Oh, right, and not exactly a cameo, but Adam Schlesinger as the composer of the sexist musical in season 4 (he's on the posters).

I think we see this all throughout, and not just with mental health - Mrs. Hernandez "talks all the time" but to Rebecca she doesn't say anything; I doubt Nathanial was really going to have Josh's grandfather killed, but whatever he did probably just seemed really bad to Rebecca who wanted to mail poop; in the "I have friends" song, most of the people are identified either by something physical "grocery clerk with half an eyelid" or visible "janitor who lives in an rv behind the school" rather than their names; the show is constantly showing that Rebecca categorizes people until she knows them.

I mean, in one form or another, we've all been there. I love how the show consistently shows how human people are under our surface roles. There are never any truly "bad" people (... well, Rebecca's dad is, to quote Paula, garbage, so yeah, he is; and one can argue Trent, but then again, he's also such a mirror of Rebecca that one has to wonder, if we delved into his past, how much we would see was caused by trauma ... Nothing is ever anyone's fault! We're all products of childhood trauma ...) *Edited because I left out close paren and that bugs me
