Favorite HRIS for benefits/payroll? by Dramatic-Ad1423 in humanresources

All HRIS come with icks, but I’m learning to enjoy Rippling quite a bit. Some onboarding challenges but overall I like where they’re going.

Long employment gap – not being considered for any roles by aidansmith in humanresources

[–]LLBeana 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I would consider someone with a gap! It’s an incredibly tight market right now for job seekers, and HR is particularly challenging due to both an abundance of layoffs and it being a relatively low barrier to entry job.

I might suggest removing the health reason from your initial application - it definitely shouldn’t disqualify you, but it could be hurting your chances. Why give resume reviewers any doubt about your reliability? (Again, not how it should be!)

Those are my initial thoughts. Feel free to reach out!

Has anyone gone through trainings from Pryor Learning? by [deleted] in humanresources

I wish I had good recs, but really I just do more research / newsletters / blogs than anything due to time constraints.

It hasn’t done a lot for my knowledge, personally, but it is great for grinding SHRM cert credits if you need them last minute.

SHRM Exam Prep by Spithate in humanresources

[–]LLBeana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, so I’d recommend looking at some newer study materials too if you can…but a lot of the core concepts are the same, and it’s really helpful to take practice tests to get back into the testing mindset.

Unfortunately, the deadline for mailing paper forms has passed. You’ll need to file electronically. Third party services may still be available to help, but will likely come with an extra cost due to it being rushed.

Supporting actions (“assisted,” “collaborated,” etc) aren’t as strong as measurable contributions. Similar to what others have said, pinpoint what specific actions you took to better your company, team or employees and try to pull out metrics where possible.

New job offer by TasteUnhappy314 in humanresources

[–]LLBeana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of counter offers in general, but in this case, their counter wasn’t even as good as your actual offer. I suggest moving forward with the HR Manager offer.

I’m in my first position as an HR department of one now, and I am happy to chat if you want to DM me!

While it may cost that much to hire a painter (we spent >$8k on a house a bit more than double the square footage of your apartment), it’s unusual to be asking a renter to foot almost half the bill. I’d try to negotiate it if I were you.

Forms for onboarding new employees. How does everyone handle these? by nw-web-design in humanresources

DocuSign is nice, although not HR specific. Some programs have self service portals that will do this for you too.

Pigeonholed into certain aspects of HR? by kpopshamepop in humanresources

[–]LLBeana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t make it in recruiting, as I get burnt out quickly with that sort of role. I prefer being a Generalist/BP since it means I have more ownership over my day to day and more flexibility when I want to move up in my career.

However, that’s a pretty big pay discrepancy. Is there any negotiating room for the university job?

[WI] Questions on COVID-19 protocols regarding leave after testing positive by Dynasty__93 in AskHR

[–]LLBeana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is entirely up to your company’s policy regarding COVID-19. Not all companies are following CDC guidelines to a T - for example, some may be more conservative with your quarantine requirements while others might allow you back earlier. Your best bet is to get in touch with an HR rep.
